Chapter 917: Justice Will Not Be Devoured by Darkness!
Chapter 917: Justice Will Not Be Devoured by Darkness!
On one side stood Kuro, five new Seven Warlords of the Sea, their subordinates, and several underlings.
Opposing them: the full Blackbeard Pirates crew.
The clash abruptly froze in place on the Grand Line.
“Ready to fight, captain?” Van Augur approached, asking, “Our plan was guessed. Was it betrayal? Kuzan?”
“It’s not him. Kuzan doesn’t know our movements,” Marshall D. Teach replied. His laughter boomed, “Heh heh heh! Can’t escape this gamble! Gambling always has risks!”
His eyes suddenly turned gruesome: “Let’s fight! Bring the ships closer!”
Fighting Kuro head-on the Grand Line was unwise. His ability to control seawater was formidable and feared.
“Have all G-3 forces prepare!” Kuro shouted, swiftly retreating to issue orders.
He shared Marshall D. Teach’s concern—the latter’s Devil Fruit ability could counter his own, and those shockwaves might send him plummeting. Whitebeard once used a shockwave to knock him from the sky, and Kuro wouldn’t gamble on repeating that. Air combat limited those who could fight at full strength, especially with many Devil Fruit users on their side. Ground combat was safer.
“Klah, contact Headquarters!” Kuro ordered as they landed.
“Already tried,” Klah responded faster, “But the Navy redirected most forces to Arabasta. They’re stretched thin. Fleet Admiral Sakazuki is coming, but it’ll take time.”
Time they didn’t have. Headquarters to G-3 was at least a five-day journey.
“What about Gramps?” Kuro asked.
“Wano Country,” Klah replied. “Admiral Lucius Kro went personally to investigate Wano.”
“Tch!” Kuro scowled, “Why’s Gramps in Wano now? All support’s cut off. Fine—prepare to fight!”
Boom!
Cannonballs launched from both sides of Blackbeard’s ship, rocketing toward G-3’s fortress.
Kuro narrowed his eyes. With a flick of his fingers, the flying cannonballs halted midair, then hurtled back toward the enemy ships.
Peng!
The air exploded with a shockwave, detonating the cannonballs mid-flight.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, a bullet zipped like lightning toward Kuro’s forehead.
A bowstring twanged. An arrow streaked through the air, intercepting the bullet. Sparks flew as both crashed to the ground.
Behind them, Ju Geng stood with drawn bow, targeting Van Augur aboard the ship.
“An archer? Impressive speed,” Van Augur muttered.
Crash!
The Blackbeard ship slammed into G-3’s portside, the impact roaring like thunder.
“Blackbeard’s Laugh!”
Marshall D. Teach leapt first, five fingers darkened by his Devil Fruit. As he landed, he slammed his fists downward.
"Darkness Pressure Points!"
Darkness surged from his hands, spreading across the fortress. Ships, debris—everything sank into the void.
“Heh heh heh! Time for cleansing!” Marshall D. Teach roared.
This technique could devour anything—even people. But only on solid ground!
Kuro raised his hand, ready to lift the fortress and his subordinates skyward. Suddenly—
“Justice Shield!!”
A brilliant white barrier descended like divine judgment, halting the encroaching darkness. The darkness clawed upward but couldn’t breach the radiant energy.
“This isn’t a Devil Fruit?!” Marshall D. Teach recoiled in shock. His darkness had no effect on the white energy.
Within the light stood shadowy figures, warping and twisting like a white beast.
From the energy, Kas declared, "No matter how twisted the darkness, justice will never yield! As long as justice exists, it will never be devoured! In the name of Persistent Justice, we swear to protect G-3 fortress!"
“We are the shield!!!” Five thousand Navy officers roared with Kas.
“It’s Colossal Shield Kas,” Lafitte muttered. “A real pain.”
“Lion Bite!”
Kuro seized the opening, swinging his blade to tear the air around Marshall D. Teach.
Thud!
Marshall D. Teach’s fist smashed sideways, repelling the attack before it could form.
“Blackbeard’s Laugh—what terrifying willpower,” Marshall D. Teach chuckled. “My men—charge!”
Pirates poured from the ships, weapons raised and faces grim.
Marshall D. Teach had no time to waste on Kas. Eleven ships, thousands of elite New World pirates—more than enough for the fight. His target was Kuro alone!
“Evil Laugh!”
Bazas lunged, soaring midair with a laugh. His armored fists tensed, diving from above with an elbow strike.
“Wave Elbow Strike!”
“Essence Impact!”
A blur of Haki erupted, intercepting the attack midair.
Bang!
The fortress’s ground caved in twin rectangular craters at Kuro’s sides. Lida, in Maiden Form, punched through the air, nullifying Bazas’s elbow.
All external Haki releases.
“Hahaha! White Whale, huh!” Bazas laughed, punching with his other fist.
Lida kicked midair, colliding with Bazas’s strike. A shockwave erupted, sending both crashing down.
“I’m White Butterfly!” Lida spat, glaring at Bazas.
“You’re up next!” Kuro turned to the Seven Warlords.
“I owe you one, Kuro.”
Dracule Mihawk drew his massive Black Blade, charging toward Shiryu.
Shiryu parried, swinging his Yokai Blade Raikou. Sparks flew as steel met steel.
“Dracule Mihawk,” Shiryu growled, cigar clenched. “I’ve wanted to claim the World’s Greatest Swordsman title.”
“If you’ve got the strength.” Mihawk smirked.
“Muruhuhu~”
Catarina Devon locked eyes on Boa Hancock. “I cherish beauty, Boa Hancock. Your face—mine.”
“You filthy creature.” Hancock lifted her chin. “Ensnared by my beauty? I suppose I’m just too gorgeous. But my beauty is beyond your grubby reach! Petrify, then die, you ugly wretch!”
Pirates gazed at her, hearts in their eyes, tongues lolling—before turning to stone.
But behind them, Daidon stood firm, spear raised.
“What beauty! I want your head even more!” Daidon hissed, tongue wagging grotesquely.
