Chapter 915: The Coffin in the Sky!
Chapter 915: The Coffin in the Sky!
Squeak!
Niffler was forced to emit a shrill, unpleasant scream as it was tossed about by the two competing magical forces. Despite the turmoil, its four paws clung tightly to the Resurrection Stone.
Just as the situation reached a stalemate, Rolf mustered his courage, drew his wand, and shouted at Grindelwald, “Expelliarmus!”
A crimson beam flashed through the dim room...
Under normal circumstances, Grindelwald would have dismissed such a weak attack, but at this moment, he was entirely focused on his struggle with Ivan. He was forced to retreat to avoid the spell.
This brief distraction was all Niffler needed to fly to the other side and land in Ivan's hands.
"Good job, Niffler, you've done well!" Ivan said with evident delight. However, his movements were swift as he snatched the Resurrection Stone from Niffler's paws and stashed it in his pocket.
Niffler, still reeling from the shock of its narrow escape, was utterly bewildered. It had endured countless hardships to secure the treasure, only for it to be snatched away so quickly?
Before it could protest, Ivan, who had turned on a dime, tossed Niffler back to Rolf.
"Over there, Thunderbird!" Ivan wasted no time. After securing the Resurrection Stone, he directed the Thunderbird to move toward the coffins of the Flamels.
Grindelwald, of course, could not allow the Resurrection Stone to be taken so easily. He furiously waved his wand, and the scattered Cyan Fiend Fire on the ground coalesced into fiery orbs that shot toward Ivan.
"Wind!" Ivan gently shook his wand, and a powerful storm immediately swept through the room, detonating the fireballs mid-air.
The already rickety house collapsed in a cacophony of explosions, and the deep darkness from outside began to invade the room. Both Ivan and Rolf felt a sense of impending doom.
"How do we get out of here now?" Rolf asked, his expression grave.
"Wait!" Ivan replied, his voice measured.
Wait? Wait for what? Rolf was perplexed. If they waited any longer, the entire space would collapse!
Ivan focused his senses and looked at the two coffins that had fallen with the collapsing house. He waved his wand, using magic to lift them.
The darkness had spread to their surroundings, and they could faintly hear the thunderous sounds of the space tearing apart.
"Now! Get ready!" Ivan shouted.
"Ready for what?" Rolf asked, his voice urgent.
"Making a run for it!" Ivan shouted as he transformed into a large mass of ashen-white flame, instantly enveloping Rolf, the Thunderbird, and the two coffins.
"Don't resist! I'm getting us out of here..."
Rolf heard a voice in his ear, followed by a dizzying sensation. The endless flame filled his vision, and it took a while for the world to stabilize.
When Rolf finally came to his senses, he found himself no longer in the shattered room. The clear blue sky greeted his eyes, and the gentle breeze brought a sense of relief to his tense emotions.
The only thing that remained the same was that they were still riding on the Thunderbird's back, with the coffins of Nicolas Flamel and his wife floating beside them.
"We actually made it out?" Rolf plopped down on the thunderbird's back, his limbs trembling. For a moment, he thought he was a goner.
"How did you manage that, Ivan?" Rolf turned his head, curiosity evident in his voice. He remembered that the unique space they were in didn't allow for Apparition.
"A respected Professor once told me that when an Independent Space collapses, the people inside briefly lose connection with that space, and all protections fail; if you can seize the right moment, you can escape successfully", Ivan said with a deep sigh.
Rolf whistled, his eyes wide. Just hearing Ivan's explanation made it clear how dangerous the method was. It was a case of risking everything to gain everything. If Ivan's reaction had been even half a second slower, they would have been torn to shreds by the Spatial Distortion.
But this peculiar knowledge, taught by some Professor, had saved their lives...
Rolf's expression was a mix of awe and bewilderment, but before he could ask more, his attention was drawn to several screams coming from below.
He looked down from the thunderbird's back and saw towering buildings. He realized they were flying over a city, and their presence had already been noticed by some Muggles.
"Where are we? Shouldn't we have appeared in the woods where we entered?" Rolf furrowed his brow, puzzled.
"We're in Paris, France! It seems there's another node that leads to that space here as well", Ivan explained, his tone matter-of-fact.
When he was studying Alchemy with Nicolas Flamel, he once opened a window to see the streets of Paris...
"Looks like we're in for some trouble..." Rolf sighed, feeling a headache coming on. They had just escaped Grindelwald, and now trouble was following them.
Causing a large-scale disturbance by being seen by so many Muggles could land them in serious trouble, possibly even in prison...
Rolf could only hope that stopping Grindelwald's plot would count in their favor.
Meanwhile, in front of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, hundreds of Muggles looked up at the golden bird flying overhead, their shock and amazement palpable.
"Good heavens, what kind of bird is that?! It has three pairs of wings..."
"A coffin... a coffin is flying in the sky!"
"Look, there are people on the bird's back!"
"I told you, there are definitely Wizards in this world. This must be magic!"
...
The Muggles were beside themselves with excitement. Some even took out cameras to capture the incredible sight, while a few uniformed Muggle police officers drew their guns, unsure whether to attack or not...
"Land, quickly, on that rooftop!" Ivan also realized the situation was dire and hurriedly directed the thunderbird to land on the roof of a building. If they kept flying, the entire city would see them.
The thunderbird obediently landed, and Ivan set down the two coffins. He then waved his wand to cast a Muggle-Repelling Charm around the area, preventing any curious Muggles from coming up.
Just as Ivan finished, a dozen French Aurors arrived, surrounding them.
