Chapter 912: The Rift's Opening Move
Chapter 912: The Rift's Opening Move
A torrential downpour engulfed every corner of the campus, shrouding the familiar surroundings in a hazy and chaotic mist. Dark clouds loomed overhead, heavy and low, almost within reach, as if the entire world had been compressed into a stifling and oppressive state.
Gana Maldon stood silently in the center of the playground, allowing the heavy raindrops to mercilessly pound on his body, as if the pouring rain and the entire world had nothing to do with him. The sound of rain roared around him, intertwining with the howling wind to create a tumultuous and chaotic symphony. His drenched Yellow Dorm uniform clung tightly to his body, outlining a slender and lonely figure. Rainwater trickled down his hair, dripping onto his face like tears.
Not far in front of him, also standing in the midst of the downpour, was Yuugen, clad in the same Yellow Dorm uniform.
They faced each other, letting the rain pour down, expressionless and silent, as if their eyes conveyed everything.
After a moment of standoff, Maldon slowly raised his hand.
Yuugen could clearly see that the boy's right hand had been replaced by some sort of monster's arm, resembling a demon's claw. The claw snapped its fingers, creating a crisp sound that echoed through the rain.
In an instant, the rain was instantly sealed off, along with the roar of the downpour, leaving the two of them in a tranquil barrier. Outside, the symphony of howling wind and rain continued, while they stood within this peaceful sanctuary.
"Yubel, I presume," Yuugen said, pinching the bridge of his nose, "I never thought that even in this state, you'd still manage to find your way to Maldon. What a poor kid. Let me guess, even if I politely ask you to leave this child's body, you probably won't comply, right?"
Maldon, or Yubel, let out a mocking laugh. "This kid may not look impressive, but the darkness within him is quite delectable.
You'll have to try and blast me out of him."
She paused, her lips curling upwards, and pointed at herself with the demon's claw. "But if you're not worried about him not being able to handle it."
"Well, I suppose so," Yuugen replied.
Just ten minutes after Yubel personally ventured into the academy, Yuugen had intercepted her.
He never thought this matter could be resolved with mere words; it was time to play his cards.
"Before we begin, I have a question for you," Yubel said.
"Oh?"
"You and my Touka," Yubel's eyes filled with hostility, "what's your relationship?"
"Me and Touka?"
Yuugen was taken aback for a moment. He was about to say they were just familiar classmates, but then he reconsidered and, noticing Yubel's jealous expression, couldn't help but laugh out loud, changing his response.
"Oh, well, we're naturally close friends who have always supported and encouraged each other's growth." Yuugen smiled, "I'm sorry to have troubled you, coming all the way from the far reaches of the universe.
But as you can see, Touka has grown well even without you. He has even awakened and mastered the power of the Tyrant, for he already has me."
Yuugen narrowed his eyes, speaking with a hint of sarcasm.
"It seems he no longer needs you."
Yubel was furious, so angry that she let out a loud wail, not even wanting to play cards anymore. She raised her demonic claw and unleashed an energy blast.
Of course, the attack was forcefully stopped just meters away from Yuugen by a complex, transparent magic barrier adorned with intricate patterns. The Silent Magician stood in front of Yuugen, holding a staff, while Yuugen remained unmoved in his original position.
"You bastard, you bastard, my dear friend?
I don't recall ever giving you permission to be Touka's friend!"
Yue Bei wailed.
"I'll kill you! I'll destroy you!"
As she spoke, the demonic hand began to transform, with the structure of a Duel Disk extending from her arm, ready with a deck already loaded.
Yuuugen activated his Duel Disk.
Things were going well so far. Yue Bei's resurrection was incomplete, and she likely wouldn't be able to unleash her full power. However, during her decade of roaming the universe, she had evolved and mutated due to the evil power of the Light Wave, making her a formidable opponent.
Before the duel began, Yuuugen aimed to disrupt her mental state, effectively interfering with the duelist's momentum and their ability to make on-the-spot judgments, further expanding his advantage.
Yue Bei had been floating in space for too long without any human interaction, and she might have forgotten the power of trash-talking. So, Yuuugen kindly helped her relive the experience, ensuring that when she followed Touka, she could quickly enter the state of an excellent backseat duelist.
"Duel!" x2
[Yuuugen, LP 4000]
[Yue Bei, LP 4000]
"I'll go first, and draw!"
With six cards in his hand, Yue Bei quickly scanned through them, and during this time, his emotions calmed down slightly.
He was currently in a poor state, and the enemy he faced was extraordinary. Such an opponent was not one he could handle when he was in top form.
"I summon 'Najis Ryuuen'."
Green leaves appeared on his field, quickly spreading out, and a vibrant lotus bloomed among the foliage.
A perfect play in one move!
[Najis Ryuuen, ATK 0]
Najis Ryuuen, a card Yuuugen often used, made its first appearance in the anime in Yue Bei's hand. It's a card that can infinitely revive from the graveyard during the End Phase, and in the anime, there are no restrictions; as long as it exists in the graveyard, it can unconditionally return to the field.
Yue Bei has an effect that causes her to self-destruct if she doesn't offer a monster as a tribute during each End Phase, so Najis Ryuuen forms the perfect combination with Yue Bei herself. Every turn, Najis Ryuuen revives, and is offered as a tribute to Yue Bei, allowing her to maintain her presence on the field.
Of course, the prerequisite is that Najis Ryuuen must be in the graveyard.
Yuuugen's lips curled up slightly.
"I'll set another card, and it's the End Phase," Yue Bei said.
"My turn, I draw."
Yuuugen drew a card, added it to his hand, and slowly drew another card from his hand.
"First, I activate this card, the Continuous Spell 'Dimensional Rift'!"
The spell card was inserted into the Duel Disk, and instantly, black lightning bolts appeared in the sky. Countless flashes of light seemed to tear through space, revealing a massive rift, with its other side a chaotic darkness, leading to an unknown dimension.
"As long as the Dimensional Rift exists in the Spell/Trap Zone," Yuuugen explained, "all monsters sent to either player's graveyard are directly removed from play instead of being sent to the graveyard."
A grand cosmic magic version!
Yue Bei's expression changed drastically.
Not sent to the graveyard, but directly removed from play.
Damn.
Summoning Najis Ryuuen on the first turn, her plan was, of course, to send Najis Ryuuen to the graveyard to prepare for her own appearance later. But with the Dimensional Rift in play, Najis Ryuuen must be removed from play directly when it leaves the field, and her tactical setup hadn't even begun, yet a crucial card had already been taken out.
Yue Bei's lips twitched.
Damn it, why would someone start with such a card in their opening hand?
Don't you want to use the graveyard yourself?!
