Chapter 912: The Last Words
Chapter 912: The Last Words
Somehow, it felt like something was amiss.
Unaware of what was happening behind him, Lyon furrowed his brows as he witnessed the Hexa-Cheeked Stag solidify its true form and give off a strange air of resignation, almost as if it was willingly seeking death. He hesitated, unsure if he should pull the trigger.
Noticing his hesitation, the stag's twelve eyes gleamed with satisfaction, and it cracked a smile across its six mouths, saying, "You're perceptive... But it's too late now!"
Lyon's gaze remained fixed on the stag as it struggled to lift its front hoof and pointed towards the dimly lit No Return Path in the distance. Its eyes filled with hatred, it spoke, "The first mortal to create the No Return Path was the first living being to die. They were the first to comprehend the Power of Death, taking the Authority of Death from the hands of the Netherworld and becoming the first living being in this world. The Dead Realm Lords merely shared his authority."
"Because of you, I've become the last Dead Realm Lord. Aside from me, there's not a single other dead being who can wield the Authority of Death. If he was the first mortal, then I'm the last!"
"..."
"Don't you understand?"
Glancing at Lyon, who was still deep in thought with a furrowed brow, the Hexa-Cheeked Stag spoke with a mocking tone, "Being the last mortal means I have the right to let go completely. I've already made my choice. Once you kill me, the Authority of Death will return to the entire Dead Realm!"
"So what?" Lyon asked after a brief moment of silence, his expressionless face revealing nothing.
"It sounds like a good thing," he said.
"Haha, it might be good news for the Purge Bureau, but not for you." The Hexa-Cheeked Stag looked towards the distant gun muzzle still aimed at him, and instead of fear, its smile widened.
"The Dead Realm is no longer the same as it was in the beginning. Ever since the first mortal died, the Authority of Death has never been able to fully return. So, if I return it, it will resurface in the Dead Realm and find a new master for itself." The stag paused for a moment, then lifted its front hoof and pointed in Lyon's direction, its eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "And that person can only be you!"
"..."
"It seems you understand what this means."
As the gun muzzle in the distance wavered slightly, Lyon's aura suddenly became chaotic. The Hexa-Cheeked Stag, bound by chains to the execution stake, burst into laughter, "Although you're a living being, you've devoured more Dead Realm Lords than I have! Covered in death as you are, you're the only choice for the Authority of Death!
The true and complete Power of Death cannot be controlled by a living being. So, just like the first mortal, you'll be immersed in the Power of Death, becoming a genuine dead being, and as the new Dead Realm Lord, you'll be trapped here forever, just like me!"
Becoming a dead being...
After listening to the Hexa-Cheeked Stag's words, Lyon fell silent for a moment before responding, "That's not something I can't accept. And if this were to happen, I'd gain eternal life, which isn't nothing."
"Haha, you won't always feel that way!" The Hexa-Cheeked Stag, bound to the execution stake, showed a peculiar expression of disdain and pity. With pain almost overflowing from its eyes, it gritted its teeth and spoke, "God of Food, when you pass your first century, you'll be grateful for your eternal life. You'll be glad you made a wise choice, no longer fearing the disappearance of your existence."
After five hundred years of this endless cycle, you will grow weary of the incessant wailing of filthy corpses, of this lifeless, monochrome world of black and white.
The only thing that will keep you going, preventing you from choosing death, will be the memories of your past life, even the painfully sad ones, which will become invaluable treasures in your heart.
When a thousand years pass, even those memories will fade, and your eyes will lose their color. You will forget all colors except for the dirty shades of black, white, and gray. That's when you will become like me!"
Recalling the countless painful memories from his past, Hexa-faced Stag desperately stretched his necks, his eyes wild with madness as he roared.
"I want to go back! I want to see the place I once lived! I want to see the red sun! I want to look up at the clouds in the sky! I want to look down at the earth beneath my feet! Even if it's just for a moment, to see something other than this filthy black and white, I don't care if I die the next second!"
"..."
In response to Hexa-faced Stag's hysterical howls, Lyon remained silent for a moment before finally speaking up, "You might have forgotten, but the clouds are white, and the ground is black."
"What?!"
"Damn it... Was that the point of what I said?" Lyon's interruption deflated Hexa-faced Stag's anger. His six mouths opened and closed in unison, and then he couldn't hold back anymore. He struggled, his eyes filled with resentment as he roared,
"God of Food! I am your future! Remember this, after I die, you will take up the Authority of Death. From then on, everything you encounter will uncontrollably march towards death! In this filthy world, no one can escape madness! Even if you are stronger than me, even if you can endure five hundred years, a thousand years, or even ten thousand years, there will still be longer torments waiting for you!"
As he spoke, he noticed Lyon raising his gun at him again, and Hexa-faced Stag paused briefly. His eyes twisted involuntarily, and he laughed viciously, "Haha! God of Food! You will eventually reach your limit and go mad! I hope you'll remember my words today! Ahaha! I can't wait to see the expression on your face when that happens! You..."
"Bang!"
Lyon's finger pulled the trigger, blasting Hexa-faced Stag's head. Efficiently, he reloaded and fired another nail, creating the last crimson blood flower in the entire Dead Realm.
"Stupid."
As the nail reached Hexa-faced Stag, shattering his heart into pieces, Lyon muttered with confusion, "I have a gun. If you wanted to go back, why not just shoot yourself?"
"What?!!!"
