Chapter 91: The Crevice Strike
Chapter 91: The Crevice Strike
On the outskirts of the fort, the patrol officers below had not heard gunshots from above for a while, so a team of officers cautiously made their way up the slope under the cover of sporadic gunfire.
They had already covered about half the distance and reached the second bend on the slope.
This was an extremely dangerous move; if anyone from the fort above charged out and opened fire, it could instantly kill or injure this group of officers.
After all, they were on a slope, and even the officers at the front wore protective armor and helmets. Still, getting hit in the limbs or face, or falling from above, could be fatal, and there was no room for retreat here.
If they were storming into the fort to confront the other commissioned company, they wouldn't take such a risk. They would wait for the actual outcome before making a move. But Chen Chuan was leading the charge, and he was their fellow patrol officers; they couldn't afford to hang back.
Just then, they suddenly saw something fly out from inside the fort, and their faces paled. They all crouched low, but after a while, when there was no movement, they looked up and saw that it was a severed head.
The head had fallen onto the platform outside, and due to the slightly inclined slope, it soon started rolling downward again, bouncing and sliding down the steep slope until it finally landed below.
Wei Laohu, upon seeing this, tapped his hat with his gun and said, "Go and identify it quickly."
Immediately, an officer ran over and returned after a while to report, "Captain, it's Tong Qianjiang!"
Wei Laohu's spirits lifted, and he asked, "Are you sure?"
"No mistake! Although some parts are smashed, I can still tell it's him!"
Wei Laohu exclaimed with joy, "Well done!" He pointed his gun upwards and shouted, "Go up there immediately! With this situation, Little Chuan must have gained the upper hand! We can't just stand here and watch!"
"Wait a moment."
He stopped the others and said fiercely, "I'll lead the team myself!" As he spoke, he threw his hat to the ground and charged towards the slope with his pistol drawn.
After Chen Chuan beheaded Tong Qianjiang, he swung his blade and turned around. At this moment, his gaze moved upwards, catching the spider-like figure, who seemed startled and quickly scurried away from the top, disappearing into the crevice.
Chen Chuan looked forward again, and at this point, only Fang Dawei remained in front of him.
The man had some kind of implant, as the blade's edge had little effect on him. Furthermore, when Chen Chuan used his force energy, the contacted area produced a sliding sensation, as if it didn't affect the man as it should have.
Fang Dawei stood there, seemingly unperturbed. He spoke, "Young man, are these people enough for you?" Seeing Chen Chuan's gaze, he repeated, "Shouldn't these people be enough for you to report back?"
Chen Chuan stared at him without responding.
Noticing his silence, Fang Dawei slowly spread his arms and said, "To be honest, this implant has made my force energy seem to disappear, but at least it makes me impervious to blades and bullets. Even if they hit me, they won't do any harm."
At this moment, Lin Yisheng, who had been leaning to the side, seemingly inconspicuous, spoke up, "You're just in the adaptation phase. Once it's over, your strength will gradually recover. Tong Baotao is more adapted than you, partly because his implant is a finished product, while yours is just a prototype."
Fang Dawei said, "Even if I recover, it'll take time. I can tell you, without these brothers, I could leave more easily on my own. If you let me go, I won't seek revenge, nor do I have the ability to. I need to avoid certain people and won't show up in Yangzhi City again."
He could tell that Chen Chuan was incredibly fast and powerful. Even if he couldn't kill him, blocking him wouldn't be difficult. Once a large group arrived, there were ways to deal with him, even trapping him in a net. If Chen Chuan let him go, he was confident he could take advantage of the unprepared officers below and make a break for it.
He continued, "Young man, when we robbed the bank, we got quite a bit of cash. It's hidden in a safe place, and I can tell you where it is, or take you there later. You can take the money and live the life you want. You won't have to worry about those bills, and who would care in another city?"
Just then, he heard footsteps slowly approaching from outside. He said, "Looks like they're coming up. Well? Have you decided? If you really want to stop me, it's a lose-lose situation. Before I die, I'll take some of you down with me. Hmm? Do you think I'll resort to force?"
He smiled and shook his head, "No, that's too crude. I'll reveal a secret in front of all of you—a secret that the Ink Orchid Corporation doesn't want the outside world to know. Can you guess their reaction then?"
At this moment, Chen Chuan turned and shouted to those outside, "Don't come in!"
The voices outside paused, and after a moment, Wei Laohu's voice called out, "Little Chuan, is that you? What's the situation in there?"
Chen Chuan replied, "The situation is under control, Uncle Wei. Trust me, don't come in yet."
Wei Laohu's voice immediately responded, "Okay, I trust you, Little Chuan. If you need anything, just say the word, and the brothers from the patrol bureau will back you up!"
Fang Dawei's lips curled into a smile as he looked at Chen Chuan, "It seems you've figured it out. Good. I'll keep my promise and tell you where the money is hidden. You should know that as long as I'm alive, the Ink Orchid Corporation won't bother you. Leaking the news won't be an issue."
Chen Chuan paused, "I was just thinking about something."
"What is it?" Fang Dawei asked, a hint of surprise in his eyes.
Fang Dawei's curiosity piqued, and he added, "I should remind you that the people from Ink Orchid Corporation are on their way here, and I can't afford to waste much time. If you have any questions, you'd better ask them quickly. Are you thinking about that secret?"
Chen Chuan smiled, "If you really want to know, I can tell you."
"I was thinking," Chen Chuan began, "although the implants on your body are impenetrable to blades and bullets, and they cover your entire body, it's impossible for them to maintain this state around the clock. After all, you need to breathe."
Fang Dawei's expression changed slightly, and his gaze turned cold. "What do you mean by that?"
Doctor Lin, sitting in the corner, was intrigued by this observation.
Chen Chuan continued, "While you were talking, I took the opportunity to observe. Although the implants are attached to your body, they require a certain level of conscious effort to function. When you need to breathe, you must force them to expand and create gaps to allow oxygen in from the outside. During this time, they become relatively weaker. It's only when you hold your breath and tighten them that they become truly impenetrable."
Doctor Lin clapped softly, impressed. "Well said! You've been very observant, young man."
Fang Dawei's face turned completely cold, and a chill rose from the depths of his heart. "So what?"
Chen Chuan gripped the hilt of his sword and slowly raised his arm, pointing the tip at Fang Dawei. "This means your implants aren't invincible. Don't talk about being impervious to blades and bullets."
Fang Dawei laughed coldly. "It seems we can't come to an agreement. I can't beat you now, but I can still say a few words. It appears you don't care about the lives of those people from the Patrol Bureau at all."
Chen Chuan remained calm. "You won't get that chance." With that, he took a large step forward, raised his Snow Lady Sword, and slashed it towards Fang Dawei.
Fang Dawei quickly retreated, but the experimental implants on his body felt like a binding constraint. While they protected him, they also hindered his speed and reactions, making them far inferior to his pre-implanted state. At this moment, his strength was less than thirty percent of his normal capacity, and his only option against Chen Chuan's slashes was to endure them.
Chen Chuan had said he could reveal the secret, but in reality, as they engaged in combat, with every movement and slash of his sword, it became impossible for him to fully articulate a sentence.
As the sword's glow flashed around him, he instinctively held his breath, maximizing the defensive power of the implants while also waiting for an opening to breathe.
But he soon realized something was wrong. Chen Chuan's sword moved with a peculiar rhythm, fast and slow, striking at his most uncomfortable points. In this state, Fang Dawei couldn't catch his breath.
So he could only try to dodge and look for an opportunity.
However, it was futile. Chen Chuan's speed and strength far surpassed his own. Every time he tried to break free, the sword followed like a shadow, as if glued to him.
The intense physical exertion increased his oxygen consumption, and after holding his breath for a long time, he realized he would suffocate if he didn't act. So he tried to expand the membrane to take a breath.
Chen Chuan's eyes flashed, and as Fang Dawei inhaled and expanded his membrane, the tip of Chen Chuan's sword swiftly thrust forward, piercing Fang Dawei's shoulder. Fang Dawei stumbled back in shock, wiping the blood from his hand, both surprised and enraged.
Chen Chuan nodded, "It seems it works."
Fang Dawei turned and ran towards the second floor, but Chen Chuan followed closely, slashing at his leg, causing him to stumble and fall forward. He crawled a few steps, grabbed a gun from the ground, and fired twice at Chen Chuan.
Chen Chuan saw clearly that Fang Dawei's control was poor, and the gun wasn't even aimed properly. So he didn't bother to dodge or block; the bullets flew aimlessly.
Chen Chuan approached, raised his sword, and slashed downward, again and again. Each time Fang Dawei tried to get up, he was cut down.
Whenever Fang Dawei attempted to breathe, Chen Chuan's sword would swiftly slash downward, tearing through the membrane. Soon, Fang Dawei was drenched in blood, his clothes and implants in tatters. He couldn't even crawl, only lying there, gasping for air.
Chen Chuan walked to the side, picked up a rope with his sword, and approached Fang Dawei, who still had a slightly slimy back.
Chen Chuan first tied the rope around Fang Dawei's hips and under his arms, then wrapped it several times around his neck. He stood up and dragged Fang Dawei towards the second floor.
Fang Dawei seemed to realize Chen Chuan's intention, his eyes filled with terror. He grabbed at the rope with both hands and kicked his feet frantically.
On the second floor, Chen Chuan tied one end of the rope to a box filled with junk and kicked Fang Dawei down.
