Chapter 91: Resolution
Chapter 91: Resolution
With a flick of his wand, Victor froze everything in place as he stepped into the chaotic classroom, carefully treading on spots untouched by the dung bombs. He then restored the cockroaches and spiders to their original size and watched as the helpful insects scurried into the cracks in the walls.
Some students even shot him grateful glances.
Victor was momentarily at a loss for words.
Dung bomb "remains" were everywhere—on the floor, on the walls, and on Malfoy and his gang. Shattered glass shards emitted green smoke, and the floor was being corroded by some unknown substance, emitting a hissing sound.
The Slytherins were petrified in various struggling poses. Some cried with snot and tears streaming down their faces, while others were terrified stiff, their eyes wide. A few had mysterious angry red welts all over their bodies that looked painful. Only Daphne in the corner seemed relatively unscathed, though she was still shaken up and had a few strands of spider web stuck to her.
Victor couldn't help but wonder—was that it?
He had thought Malfoy had prepared an intricate trap, daring to seek trouble again after their last encounter. But it seemed he had only relied on ambushing with numbers.
Victor thought of his own preparations—he had readied over a dozen spells and specifically practiced five different combinations. To ensure he could successfully cast spells in the shortest time possible and attack while in motion, he had secretly trained for a long time at the Room of Requirement.
The Room of Requirement only provided wooden targets, so Victor had sought out various small insects as sparring partners, and [Engorgio] was one of the spells he had frequently used lately. Of course, spiders and cockroaches were a bit too challenging for his mental fortitude, so he usually opted for the praying mantises with two big blades, in an emerald green color.
At this moment, as far as Victor was concerned, he had just exchanged greetings with his opponents, and they had all fallen, wailing miserably as if they had been run over by a carriage...
All his thorough preparations seemed a bit excessive now.
"Scourgify!"
Victor waved his wand, and the green liquid and dung bombs vanished, though a foul smell lingered. He then used the Summoning Charm to collect everyone's wands before lifting the petrification spell.
The classroom erupted into loud cries and screams.
"Quiet down!" Victor frowned.
In an instant, all sound ceased.
Victor approached Malfoy. The blond boy turned ashen, his feet kicking frantically against the floor as he tried to scoot away, screaming, "You... you... don't come near me—!"
Victor pressed the collected wand against Malfoy's shoulder, crouching down to look him in the eye. "You know, if you were my enemies, I would snap your wands right now."
Malfoy froze, then stuttered after a long pause, his voice trembling, "You... you can't..."
To a wizard, a wand was as important as a limb. Some adult wizards couldn't even cast simple spells without their wands. While they could get a new wand if theirs was damaged, usually, only the wand that chose them as children and accompanied them on their magical journey was the most suitable and loyal. Most wizards' wands would stay with them until the end of their lives and then be buried with them.
It was a lifelong partner.
Someone in the classroom sniffled.
"Of course, I won't do that," Victor continued, seeing the relief on Malfoy's face. "But not because of who your father or grandfather is—that has nothing to do with it. It's simply because we're classmates and should get along amicably... right?
Malfoy: "...You see the bumps on me, you smell the stench on me, you know that spider almost ate me just now, right? You know what it feels like to be hugged by spider legs? And you call that being friendly?"
"Yes." Young Master Malfoy lowered his head and whispered.
"Thank you, it's good that you understand. After all, I just want to study hard and don't like to cause trouble."
Victor had wanted to pat his shoulder, but thinking of the fact that these people were still covered in dung bombs, he put down his hand.
Malfoy's heart, however, jumped along with Victor's movements, beating violently and contracting tightly, and he felt a dull pain in his chest. Hearing Victor's words, he almost burst into tears.
"Is this devilish guy really the Ravenclaw I know? Who's the real Slytherin between us?"
"Also, could you please stop bullying my friends and using such underhanded methods... Otherwise, I will get very, very angry! I'm the kind of person who always gets my revenge." Victor said sincerely, "If you choose to ignore my warning, you'd better defeat me first—I welcome any fair challenge."
Seeing that Malfoy was just staring at him blankly and the others weren't saying anything, Victor, who had been talking to himself, began to feel a little embarrassed. He put down the Slytherins' wands and turned to leave. Just as he was about to walk out the door, he suddenly turned back.
Malfoy, who had just touched his wand, dropped it with a "pat" and Nott quickly hid behind Goyle, while the others were also startled.
"Don't be so nervous. I just wanted to ask—" Victor asked, "Are you going to tattle to the professor—that you were scared to tears by spiders and cockroaches? There's a big difference between having an embarrassing secret known by just one person and being mocked by the whole school... Don't you think so?"
The group's faces stiffened.
Especially Malfoy, who had already cursed countless times in his heart—telling the professor... telling dad... snapping your wand... getting you expelled, you jerk...
But Victor seemed to hear his thoughts and smiled gently, "It's just a prank on classmates using the Engorgio spell, and you won't get expelled for that. We still have more than six years to spend together! Let's put the past misunderstandings behind us and get along from now on, alright?"
Hearing the veiled threat, the group stiffly nodded their heads.
Victor laughed, "Great, then it's settled."
...
Not long after Victor left the Potions classroom, he saw Michael and Padma peeking around the corner. When they saw him approaching, the two jumped out from the corner and surrounded Victor, looking him up and down.
"Are you okay? I just heard a lot of horrible screams from inside," Padma asked worriedly.
"I'm fine, I didn't come out on the losing end," Victor said.
"Cool! So, you took care of them all?" Michael asked excitedly, "Let's go—someone wanted to go check earlier, but we stopped them. I don't know if they'll go get Professor Snape."
The three hurried along the corridor and a big eye peeked out from the corner.
Victor winked, hiding his right hand behind his back and making an "OK" sign.
The elf, Mackey, grinned, showing his long fingers and returning the "OK" sign. He then hid in the shadows, his big ears swaying as he listened to the Slytherins' movements.
