Chapter 91: Master-Level Grand Fire Extinction Arrow (25)
Chapter 91: Master-Level Grand Fire Extinction Arrow (25)
"Teacher, I want to challenge the River Dash again!" Obito found Mu Yue and shared his desire to attempt the challenge once more.
It had been four days since his last attempt, which had ended in failure.
During these four days, he had learned Mu Yue's special accelerated training techniques and even pushed his speed to the limit during a race with Might Guy. Obito felt that he now had the skills to pass this challenge.
Of course, the main reason for Obito's belief in his newfound abilities was his realization that his previous failures in speed tests were due to not mastering the Body Flicker Technique.
Furthermore, the special training for the next week included practical combat tests, and Obito wanted to master the Body Flicker Technique this week so that he wouldn't be at such a disadvantage during the upcoming practical exams.
He wanted to beat Might Guy just once.
So far, in all their official sparring matches, Obito had never won against Might Guy. He always fell just short of victory.
If Might Guy mastered the Body Flicker Technique and he didn't, Obito felt that his chances of winning the upcoming practical exam would be even slimmer.
If the gap between them was huge, Obito might have given up, but the fact that he always lost by a hair's breadth was frustrating.
"Alright, follow me." Mu Yue nodded and led Obito to the riverbank.
Unlike the first challenge, there was no need to set up traps beforehand for the second challenge; they could begin immediately.
Mu Yue created numerous shadow clones and unleashed a barrage of water dragons onto the river's surface.
"Teacher Mu Yue, I'm ready," Obito said, taking a deep breath as he began to gather his chakra in preparation for the dash.
"Begin!"
Obito fixed his eyes on the water dragons, trying to discern the hidden pattern in their movements.
After his previous failure, Mu Yue had hinted that the water dragons weren't just randomly crashing into each other; there was a pattern to their movements.
If it were just a simple 15-meter water-treading challenge, Obito could have dashed across instantly. However, with the water dragons creating chaos, a direct rush would likely result in him getting knocked out.
After observing for about two seconds, Obito finally uncovered the secret.
There were a total of twelve water dragons on the river's surface, divided into four groups of three. The dragons in each group moved in sync, which meant that the twelve dragons could be treated as four larger dragons.
There was also a pattern to the movements of these four larger dragons. Approximately every second and a half, a brief safe passage would open up between two of the large dragons, but it would only last for an instant—the blink of an eye.
Once he understood this, Obito rushed forward without hesitation. There was no time for further observation.
While it appeared to be a ten-second challenge, the actual time to act was probably less than half a second. This test assessed both observation skills and the ability to act swiftly.
Now that he understood the pattern, the challenge became much easier. Obito would dash through four water dragons at a time and then pause, waiting for the right moment to continue.
Standing on the water's surface, Obito kept his eyes locked on the menacing water dragons, not daring to relax for a moment. He couldn't afford to make a mistake; the second challenge had far less room for error than the first.
As Mu Yue watched Obito, she thought that if he could maintain this calm and cautious attitude, the improvement in his combat prowess would be no less than if he had learned an advanced ninjutsu.
"Success!" Obito exclaimed joyfully as he reached the shore after navigating through the final set of water dragons.
"Teacher Mu Yue, I didn't exceed the time limit, did I?" Obito asked anxiously.
Mu Yue nodded and smiled in response. "No, you've successfully completed the taijutsu challenge."
"Great! Does that mean I can learn the Body Flicker Technique now?"
In an instant, everything clicked into place.
Mu Yue hadn't withheld the Body Flicker Technique from him out of spite. In fact, ever since he had taken on her taijutsu challenge, she had already been planning to teach it to him.
The first challenge in the forest had tested his physical fitness, and now, with the second challenge, she was directly imparting a portion of the Body Flicker Technique to him.
"Teacher Mu Yue, you are truly the best teacher in the world!" Obito exclaimed, deeply touched as he understood her thoughtful intentions.
[You have gifted your disciple with the Body Flicker Technique scroll. Your disciple is extremely grateful. Critical hit reward: Fire Style: Grand Fireball Arrow (Mastery)]
The reward for today's teaching session was even better than Mu Yue had anticipated—a critical hit that unlocked a master-level ninjutsu, the powerful Fire Style: Grand Fireball Arrow.
"Almost forgot, here's your admission fee. I forgot to give it to you earlier," Mu Yue said with a smile, handing Obito three test papers.
Obito's smile froze as he realized what he had been missing—the test papers! This was the one thing he had hoped Mu Yue would forget about.
"Since you forgot, let's just let it slide this time," Obito said, his smile returning as he hoped she would let him off the hook.
Mu Yue tapped him on the forehead with her two fingers and said, "You're thinking too wishfully. I can't exempt you from the tests, but I can offer you an interest-free installment plan for once."
Hearing that he could be exempt from interest, Obito's spirits lifted again. At least he wouldn't have to answer as many questions.
Mu Yue then proceeded to teach Obito the Body Flicker Technique...
