Chapter 91: Jiraiya, My Rainy Night Teacher, Truly a Hidden Dragon!
Chapter 91: Jiraiya, My Rainy Night Teacher, Truly a Hidden Dragon!
When Luk returned, Kakashi hastily closed The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Jiraiya.
Kakashi had thought his thick skin from reading Icha Icha in public was unshakable, but he still instinctively hid the book when faced with the real deal.
"Ahem, why did you take so long?"
Kakashi coughed to cover his embarrassment but noticed Luk staring intently at him, specifically at his eye covered by the headband.
"What’s that look for?"
His friend’s gaze was so intense that Kakashi felt like his eyeballs might pop out.
"Nothing, I saw a butterfly I wanted to catch, but I missed it."
Luk sighed. The Kamui technique was too good at escaping; he hadn’t managed to catch anything.
If only he could use Kakashi’s eye. If he could enter the Kamui dimension, Luk could take on ten Tobi.
Unfortunately, the transplant eye didn’t appear in the transformation catalog. Kakashi’s unique trait was Genius, which increased training efficiency by 100%.
A very useful ability, but not the Uchiha bloodline’s Mangekyou Sharingan Kamui.
Feeling disappointed about not catching Tobi, Luk’s mood turned from sunny to cloudy. After a brief discussion about the publication details, he dismissed Kakashi.
This guy had been single for years and had just received a shock. Add in the Kishimoto-style bonds, and who knew what strange ideas he might have. Luk didn’t want to play out a scenario where he defected and Kakashi chased him for miles. Naruto and Sasuke were better suited for that kind of drama.
After sending Kakashi away, Luk returned to the forge and began contemplating how to counter Kamui.
Spatial and temporal powers were high-end in any universe, and the Luks currently had no particularly effective countermeasures.
The only techniques that could relate to space-time were the newly acquired but untrained Hiraishin technique, the Spatial inscription from the Divine Mechanism, the Eight Gates and Disordered Gold Breaking from the Wind Gate Techniques, and some non-offensive space-time ninjutsu like Summoning.
In the Pokemon world, there were some spatial skills, but the Pokemon with such abilities, like the Mythical Pokemon Arceus with its Trick Room and Magic Room, were rare. Ditto hadn’t seen any yet.
Luk thought that Sylph’s Black Hole could potentially attack Kamui, but Ditto, despite encountering it, refused to open the transformation catalog, fearing what his brothers might do to him.
That was an unnecessary worry. With the shared empathy of the mysterious space, even without it, the Luks wouldn’t do anything to a transformed Sylph.
Shaking his head, he blamed the low credibility of those perverts for tarnishing the name of the pure love faction.
Luk retrieved a bell-shaped artifact, a newly refined Devouring Sac.
He had forgotten to reclaim the previous one from Hiruzen Sarutobi. Given the grandiose act at the time, asking for it back would have been too undignified, so Luk had reluctantly donated it.
From the Devouring Sac, he took out a small piece of silvery metal, the shop owner’s prized Chakra Metal.
Luk had experimented with this metal before; it could transmit various energies with almost no loss, making it an excellent forging material.
If he combined the Spatial and Cutting inscriptions, could he cut through space?
Excited, Luk took out the Moonlight and began his experiment.
Weapon enhancement, activate!
He first forged over a dozen weapons of various types, then shattered them in a ritualistic ceremony. Next, he melted the Chakra Metal and fused it onto the Moonlight, carefully engraving the inscriptions.
...
A moment later, Luk’s face darkened as he melted the Chakra Metal again.
The Cutting and Spatial inscriptions had been successfully engraved, but the effect was not as he had imagined. The Moonlight became even sharper and could store items, but the two inscriptions didn’t combine.
It felt like describing a mermaid as half-human, half-fish to a police officer, only for them to draw a monster with a fish head and human body.
You couldn’t exactly say it was wrong, but something just didn’t feel right.
Luk pondered and concluded that his proficiency with the Divine Mechanism was still lacking. If he understood the inscriptions more deeply and grasped their essence, he could freely combine them, achieving the true "hundred refinements."
...
A few days later, in the newly constructed Hokage office.
Hiruzen Sarutobi was reviewing documents. The new reforms had brought a new atmosphere to Konoha, but they also brought various subsequent issues.
For example, the children at the Ninja Academy protested the sudden increase in workload, preferring the Will of Fire courses. While Sarutobi was pleased by this, he felt the future ninja should not be too pampered.
Another issue was the luxury and weapon shops’ dissatisfaction with the price caps, leading them to pressure the council and subtly exert influence. However, both ninja and civilians firmly supported the Hokage’s orders, quelling the unrest.
Lastly, the reintegration of the Uchiha clan into Konoha had its own set of small problems. While not all Uchiha were arrogant, many were, leading to various disputes. He and Fugaku had been busy maintaining the balance.
Another intruder, one just left and another shows up. The first one was too strong to handle, and the second one ran so fast I didn’t even get a glimpse of them.
Thinking about it made Hiruzen angry. His village, the Hidden Leaf, was being treated like a sieve, with people coming and going as they pleased.
Suppressing his frustration, he finished his paperwork for the day and stood up, speaking aloud.
"Come out."
"Sensei, you’re still as sharp as ever. You noticed me right away."
A deep male voice echoed from the shadows, and a middle-aged man stepped out. He was tall, with long white hair that reached his waist. He wore a forehead protector with the kanji for "oil," and there were red marks under his eyes. He donned a red overcoat over a brown shirt, exuding a powerful aura.
One of the Three Sages, Jiraiya!
Jiraiya tried to maintain his wise smile, but it quickly crumbled, turning him from a dignified sage into a goofy husky.
"Who do you think trained you?" Hiruzen’s face broke into a rare smile, "You must be exhausted from your journey. Come, sit down and rest."
Jiraiya made a few polite protests but was soon seated in the spot where Hiruzen had just been handling official business.
"Sensei, this isn’t right, this isn’t right. I’m not the type to be Hokage!"
Hiruzen’s expression darkened, "If you don’t want to be Hokage, why did you come back?"
Jiraiya hesitated, stammering for a while before standing tall.
"I heard there were intruders in the Hidden Leaf, so I came to offer my support. Protecting the honor of the Hidden Leaf is our duty!"
"Hah! There are plenty of people who would jump at the chance to be Hokage. Danzo would kneel before me and beg for it. And you’re acting all high and mighty?"
Hiruzen’s face darkened as he kicked his disciple out, saying sternly, "You have two choices: either you become Hokage and we hold the succession ceremony tomorrow, or you bring Tsunade back within a month and make her Hokage. Choose wisely!"
Jiraiya rubbed his sore bottom and bowed deeply before leaving.
...
Kawakami Hikaru was idly watching his shop when a middle-aged man walked in with a friendly smile.
"Excuse me, is this the home of the author 'Take an Umbrella When You Go Out in the Rain'?"
The author of "Young Jiraiya" had only provided the address for the Hidden Leaf. On his way back to the village, Jiraiya had encountered Kakashi, who had been waiting for him for a long time. After a brief interrogation, Jiraiya finally got the real address.
"You must be mistaken. This is the Kawakami residence," Hikaru said, scratching his head in confusion.
"I understand, I understand." Jiraiya nodded, "It’s natural to keep such things secret from family, especially when writing adult content. Is the adult of the house here?"
Hikaru pointed ahead, "There he is."
Jiraiya looked over and saw a handsome yet unassuming young man being kicked out of the Ichiraku Ramen shop. Despite his awkward exit, the man’s face was filled with the joy of discovering a new location, which didn’t escape Jiraiya’s notice.
Their eyes met, and a spark of recognition passed between them.
Jiraiya bowed deeply, "You must be the author 'Take an Umbrella When You Go Out in the Rain.' I never imagined you’d be so young and yet write such a masterpiece. I’m truly humbled."
Luk waved his hands, "Please, Jiraiya-sama, you flatter me. I’ve always been a fan of the Three Sages, so I wrote a few things with you as the main character. I hope you don’t mind."
"Mr. Rain Night, you’re too kind!"
"Jiraiya-sama, you are as well!"
The two perverts shared a mutual respect and, after a few polite exchanges, went to Luk’s room.
As soon as they entered, Jiraiya saw the unfinished second book on the table and felt a surge of excitement.
"Is this your new work? May I read it?"
"Of course." Luk handed over the partially completed "Hyuga," glancing at the progress bar, which was quite long, about an hour and a half.
"This book involves the Hyuga clan. I’m considering changing the name."
Jiraiya quickly flipped through it, immediately impressed, and shook his head, "You can’t change it. Without the Byakugan’s ability to see through objects, how would the Hyuga clan select the best males? This is a fundamental part of the story and can’t be changed."
"But I’m a bit worried about the Hyuga clan causing trouble."
"Kakashi and I won’t reveal your identity. I swear it on my life. That’s my ninja way!" Jiraiya said firmly, his face like that of a devoted pilgrim.
Don’t use your ninja way for such bizarre reasons!
Luk mentally rolled his eyes, and the two of them began a discussion, with Luk guiding and Jiraiya listening attentively.
...
Two hours later.
Jiraiya left, satisfied, promising to return for more guidance.
Luk closed the door, equally satisfied.
Let’s see if this big experience package includes any sage techniques!
