Chapter 91: Jerry's Middle School Life (Fourth Update)
Chapter 91: Jerry's Middle School Life (Fourth Update)
In fact,
When Jerry walked into the school, he realized that middle schools in this country were quite different from the junior high schools he had attended in his previous life.
The cultural differences were not very noticeable in elementary school, but they became particularly evident once he entered middle school.
He still remembered the frequent fights and brawls he used to see outside his school in his past life. One particularly memorable incident involved over a hundred students. However, the atmosphere inside the school was a different story.
Back then, the teachers were not to be trifled with. They were known as the Four Great Demons, the Six Great Tyrants, and even the Merciless Master. They were far more formidable than the teachers of today.
If you were caught with dyed hair, long hair, smoking, causing trouble in class, or even dating, the consequences were decidedly “pleasant.”
He vaguely recalled how quiet the classroom would become during math class, as if a pin could be heard dropping. The moment the math teacher stepped into the classroom, all noise would vanish as if by an invisibility charm.
He also remembered a classmate who was quite popular outside of school. This student was caught smoking behind the school building during a break and was publicly whipped thirteen times by the “Bald Tyrant.” The “Bald Tyrant” then kicked him to the ground and, still unsatisfied, gave him two more kicks.
Of course, such incidents were now rare.
These days, various hairstyles like perms and curls, earrings, and unusual outfits were commonplace in this middle school. Jerry even spotted two teenagers, around thirteen or fourteen years old, embracing and kissing in a corner as he climbed the stairs. When he saw them, they didn’t seem to care at all, as if it were a normal occurrence.
This might be due to the school's policies. Some private middle schools probably had stricter rules in this regard.
Actually, Jerry quite liked this relaxed environment. The more lax the school's management, the more time he had to focus on his own affairs.
He found the classroom listed on his notice and chose a seat in the far corner at the back.
Soon, the bell rang, signaling the start of the first class.
“My name is Jerry Carmen. I’m eleven years old. My hobbies... well, I have many. My future dreams... well, I have many.”
During the first class's self-introduction, Jerry, sitting in the back corner, stood up and gave a brief, unremarkable introduction before sitting down again.
The teacher and classmates glanced at him for a few seconds before moving on to the next student.
“Muggle Repelling Charm!”
At that moment, Jerry quietly took out his wand, tapped his desk lightly, and then pulled out a magic book from his box to start reading.
The Muggle Repelling Charm was a spell Jerry had recently learned. It wasn’t very difficult, but its effectiveness depended on the wizard's skill.
The Muggle Repelling Charm didn’t actually repel Muggles; it simply made a specific area unnoticed by Muggles, or rather, made them subconsciously ignore that area.
It was more like a powerful group psychological suggestion.
For example, the Leaky Cauldron was clearly situated between a bookstore and a record store, yet passersby would subconsciously ignore it.
Only if a wizard specifically pointed it out and broke the psychological suggestion could it be seen.
Now, Jerry cast a Muggle Repelling Charm on a small area around his desk. This way, the teacher and all the classmates in the classroom would subconsciously ignore his location.
As a result, he could do whatever he wanted as long as he didn’t make too much noise, and no one would notice.
Of course, if the teacher called his name to ask a question, he would still be noticed.
However, when reading his Magic book, Jerry would always activate his Focus Enhancer. As long as the teacher called his name, he could immediately react, so there was no problem.
Moreover, public schools were not as strictly managed as private schools, and the practice of calling on students to answer questions was relatively rare. Everyone was quite free during class.
On the first day of school, there wasn't much important content. It was mainly about self-introductions and getting to know the classmates.
On that day, Jerry remembered all the teachers' and classmates' names, but he didn't make any friends because he spent all his time studying the Polyjuice Potion recipe and the Disguise Charm.
This was what he urgently needed.
The first day of middle school life passed very quietly.
Or so it should have been.
However, during the last period, when two classes combined for physical education, a small incident occurred.
Their PE teacher, a short and chubby middle-aged white man, organized a game called "Gladiator" to help everyone enjoyably integrate in the first class.
The rules were very simple: the boys from the two classes were divided into two teams to capture the Red Flag planted at the other end of the lawn. They could use any means to stop the opposing team, and the team that first delivered the Red Flag to the teacher won.
The girls from the classes acted as cheerleaders, cheering for their team's boys.
Up to this point, it didn't seem like a big deal. Jerry thought he could just go through the motions and be done with it.
But since it was the first day of class and not everyone in the class knew each other, to distinguish the two teams, the PE teacher had one class take off their T-shirts and play bare-chested.
Jerry's class was the one chosen to take off their shirts.
The result was clear. The moment Jerry took off his shirt, he became the focus of the entire playground, including the PE teacher, who was taken aback.
At this age, most kids were either skinny or overweight. Jerry's eight-pack abs and muscular build were far too eye-catching.
Especially when an eighth-grade girl from the School Newspaper captured the moment of Jerry taking off his shirt from a distance.
The next day, a picture of his muscular body made the front page of the school newspaper, and he instantly became the most talked-about person in the school.
The low-profile plan he had set from the beginning was declared completely ruined on the first day of school.
There was nothing he could do about it. If he could cast spells without a wand, he could have simply used an Imperius Curse on the teacher, and this situation wouldn't have happened.
The main issue was that everyone changed into specialized sports T-shirts and shorts for PE, making it difficult to carry his wand and box. So, he had put them in the student storage cabinet before class.
He hadn't expected such a minor PE class to cause such a fuss.
This incident made Jerry more cautious. He realized that no matter how safe the environment, he must never be separated from his wand. Without it, he was just an ordinary child with a slightly stronger body.
Fortunately, after careful consideration, he realized the problem wasn't too severe. The low profile was to reduce attention from S.H.I.E.L.D., but once he successfully brewed the Polyjuice Potion, everything would be resolved.
