Li Xiong, a man with a sharp mind, realized his predicament after surrendering to Lu Hai Kong. He understood that there was no turning back, and so he gradually adjusted his mindset.
Not only did Wang Fat readily answer his questions, but Li Xiong also started planning how to win Lu Hai Kong's favor.
He knew that Lu Hai Kong was the undisputed leader among them, and to ensure a comfortable future, gaining Lu Hai Kong's approval was crucial. When he learned that Lu Hai Kong was searching for a suitable location to establish a mountain fortress, Li Xiong boldly approached Lu Hai Kong and recommended an ideal place.
The site Li Xiong suggested was a vast basin, nestled between two towering mountain ranges. It spanned an area of forty to fifty square kilometers, not exceptionally large but more than sufficient for Lu Hai Kong's current needs.
Surrounded by mountains, the basin enjoyed ample sunlight and lush vegetation, making it an ideal place to settle. Even more remarkable was the presence of a small river flowing through the basin.
By sealing off the basin's entrance, Lu Hai Kong could focus on developing the area without worries. Such an opportunity caught the attention of both Lu Hai Kong and Wang Fat.
However, acquiring such a prime location wasn't an easy task. At the basin's entrance, there was a mountain fortress, and it was not a small one.
Compared to the small-scale fortresses of Wang Damaizi and Cheng Dashan, this one was significantly larger. The previous fortresses they had encountered housed a few hundred bandits at most, with leaders possessing strength levels in the thirties or forties. Lu Hai Kong and his group had destroyed countless such fortresses, but the one before them now was evidently not a small-scale operation. Its size was at least two to three times larger than the typical small fortress.
Lu Hai Kong had never encountered a fortress of this magnitude before, and he wasn't sure if he could conquer it. Nonetheless, he was determined to secure this location at all costs. Regardless of the outcome, the obstructive fortress at the entrance had to be eliminated.
Lu Hai Kong ordered his team to halt and rest while he ventured alone to assess the fortress's strength. If it wasn't too formidable, he could take it directly. Before departing, Lu Hai Kong left the team under Wang Fat's supervision.
The fortress stood right at the basin's entrance, imposing and boldly constructed, unlike the hidden fortresses in Shanwu County, which were tucked away in the depths of the mountains.
Perhaps the fortress's strength was formidable, or maybe the Han forces in Qiang Yin County were weak, or it could simply be the system's design to build the fortress there. Lu Hai Kong didn't delve further into the reasons.
From the outset, Lu Hai Kong's focus was on the fortress's defensive capabilities. As he approached from the side, the first thing that caught his attention were the wooden watchtowers, each standing ten meters tall and accommodating five to ten people.
Lu Hai Kong had only seen these watchtowers on blueprints; this was his first encounter with the actual structures. They seemed impressive, but what truly drew his attention were the bandit archers atop them. These archers appeared extraordinary, their spirit and energy surpassing those of his own archers. Lu Hai Kong casually cast a 'Reconnaissance Skill' and instantly gained insight into the bandit archers.
Elite Bandit Archers
Strength: 15
Skills: Basic Archery Technique Lv. 10
A seemingly simple message, but the implications are profound. Even these archers possess Strength points, indicating their combat prowess surpasses that of ordinary bandit archers by several levels.
Ten or so of these archers could give Lu HaiKong a run for his money, and he's confident he could withstand their attacks. But if dozens or even hundreds of them were to hide in arrow towers just ten meters away, taking potshots, even Lu HaiKong would find it a troublesome situation.
"Damn, this bandit camp seems more challenging than I anticipated," Lu HaiKong frowned, preparing to observe the camp further. But his steps suddenly halted.
"Wait, what are these archers doing?"
Lu HaiKong noticed the archers in the towers suddenly tense up, drawing their bows and aiming as if ready to attack. Initially, Lu HaiKong thought he had been spotted, but soon realized they weren't aiming at him.
The direction of their aim was clearly towards the bandit camp's entrance. And in the blink of an eye, they unleashed their assault.
"What's happening? Is someone attacking the camp?" Lu HaiKong was startled, and he quietly crept forward, creating a gap in the camp's outer fence to slip inside unnoticed.
Meanwhile, at the camp's entrance, a cavalry unit of about fifty riders arrived shortly after Lu HaiKong. Led by a slender figure wearing a bronze face mask, they charged forward without hesitation.
The wooden gate of the camp was no match for them; it was instantly shattered. The bandits responded swiftly, and the archers in the towers immediately launched a long-range attack on the daring cavalry unit.
In the 1619 version, the archers' skills were unparalleled!
Wave after wave of arrows rained down, and these archers were no ordinary fighters. With their Basic Archery Technique at level 10, the force of their attacks was undoubtedly terrifying.
However, to the archers' dismay, the cavalry showed no intention of defending themselves. They allowed the arrows to strike their thick armor and the armor of their horses without flinching, rendering the arrows ineffective.
Only the leader, wielding a long spear with graceful yet impenetrable movements, kept the arrows at bay, protecting her body as she wore no defensive gear except for the face mask.
This cavalry unit charged straight into the camp, effortlessly destroying anything in their path. With the archers in the towers unable to intervene, the bandits had no chance to halt their advance. Soon, the cavalry reached the outskirts of the Assembly Hall.
At that moment, a robust figure emerged from within, wielding a great saber and forcefully opening the hall's doors. With an imposing stance, he declared, "Who dares invade our Assembly Hall?"
Just then, Lu HaiKong, who had stealthily climbed an arrow tower without anyone noticing, was surprised to find that this individual possessed a Strength rating of over 60. And when Lu HaiKong's gaze fell upon the slender, masked leader, who casually cast a Reconnaissance Skill, he was left utterly bewildered.
