Chapter 908: No-Fly Array
Chapter 908: No-Fly Array
Suddenly attacked, Thunderbird reacted swiftly, dodging the assault and emitting a series of angry cries. Its pure golden wings flapped powerfully, sending several thick bolts of lightning hurtling towards the attackers.
However, this seemingly decisive strike had no effect, as it was effortlessly dissipated by an invisible barrier that rose from the air.
Thunderbird's vermilion-gold eyes fixated on the five Wizards below, sensing an immense threat from the leader. Almost instantly, Thunderbird made its decision, abandoning the lamb it had just captured and turning to flee.
Unfortunately, the attackers were clearly well-prepared. The No-Fly Array they had set up was instantly activated, causing Thunderbird to feel as if it had been struck by a heavy blow. Its movements became incredibly sluggish, and it eventually wobbled and crashed to the ground.
Ivan watched this scene with growing anxiety. As a flying creature, he was also affected by the No-Fly Array and was forced to land on Rolf's back, allowing the Leopard to carry him as they ran.
"Damn it, how could those poachers move so fast?!" Rolf cursed, increasing his speed to try to reach the scene before the others did.
It's probably not poachers... Ivan thought to himself. He had flown high into the sky and seen the faces of the attackers, and the lead Wizard seemed strangely familiar to him.
Rolf, unaware of this information, continued to run rapidly towards the location where Thunderbird had fallen.
However, when they arrived, Rolf realized the battle was already over. The ground was stained with bright red blood, and a dozen or so golden feathers lay scattered.
"Damn it, we're too late!" Rolf transformed back into his human form, picking up a feather and angrily slamming his fist into the sandy ground.
Ivan, on the other hand, was not surprised. Even a powerful creature like Thunderbird couldn't have lasted long against that person, especially with the thorough preparation they had made.
"Did you see those poachers from the sky? How many were there?" Rolf asked through gritted teeth.
"Five in total!" Ivan replied succinctly.
We can still fight! Rolf thought to himself. Despite the enemy's numerical advantage, he and Ivan were still hidden. If they could ambush and eliminate one or two of the attackers, they could still stand a chance!
Ivan immediately saw through Rolf's plan and poured cold water on it. "I saw Grindelwald among them!"
Just by those heterochromatic eyes... Even if he had aged backward by several decades, Ivan could still recognize him.
"What?!" Rolf froze, then drew in a sharp breath. "Grindelwald? You're sure you didn't make a mistake? Why would he suddenly come to France?"
"Actually, I received intelligence before we came that Grindelwald has been active in France recently... No one knows what he's up to, though", Ivan explained.
"This is going to be problematic!" Rolf's brow furrowed as he listened to Ivan.
Rolf had read about Grindelwald's escape from Nurmengard Prison in the European Times, but he never imagined he would encounter such a legendary Dark Wizard.
More than fifty years ago, the great calamity had been recounted to him many times by his grandfather, so he knew all too well what the name Grindelwald represented... This was absolutely not something they could stand up to!
At this thought, Rolf decided to persuade Ivan to abandon the quest and instead follow on his own to see if he could gather any important information.
The danger in this place had already surpassed his imagination. If they were to encounter a battle, Rolf estimated that he wouldn’t be able to ensure Ivan’s safety at all.
However, just as he turned to speak, Ivan’s voice beat him to it.
"Mr. Scamander, you should immediately return and inform the Ministry of Magic. The upcoming battle will be extremely dangerous, and I have no guarantee that I can protect your safety..." Ivan’s expression was very serious, showing no hint of jest.
Huh? Ah? Rolf looked at Ivan in confusion, thinking, _Shouldn’t these be my words?_
Rolf was taken aback by Ivan’s sudden declaration and couldn’t react for a long time.
After reminding Rolf once more, Ivan ignored him and pulled out a blank vial from his wizard robes. He waved his wand, gathering the scattered blood from the ground.
"Should be enough", Ivan muttered to himself, shaking the vial. Now he had all the materials needed for the bloodline fusion. His primary goal in France was perfectly achieved.
If he were more cautious, he should stop now, find a place undisturbed, and perform the sixth Bloodline Fusion Ritual. He would spend a couple of weeks familiarizing himself with the new powers before considering a confrontation with Grindelwald.
But Ivan was genuinely curious about why Grindelwald had specifically come to France and put so much effort into capturing this Thunderbird. Whatever the reason, it must be extremely important for the other to set aside his affairs and do it personally!
Realizing this, Ivan immediately decided to follow!
After all, things were different now. He didn’t need to rely on boasting about his strength to maintain his rule. If he couldn’t win, he could always run away.
With his decision made, Ivan didn’t waste any more time. His form shifted from an Owl into a sleek Cheetah, and he followed the scent of the Thunderbird’s blood, sprinting off in hot pursuit.
Rolf watched as Ivan transformed from an Owl into a Cheetah, completely stunned. Could an Animagus have two forms?
But now wasn’t the time to ponder that. Watching Ivan’s retreating figure, Rolf hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth and transformed into a Leopard, following after him.
If a young wizard like Ivan could face life and death without hesitation, what did he have to fear?
The Niffler perched on Rolf’s head, with its small brain, was seriously considering whether to bail out halfway. The terrifying presence of the Thunderbird left a deep impression, and the fact that such a powerful magical creature was so easily subdued by the enemy triggered its instinct to flee.
However, this thought was quickly dispelled by another instinct. It caught the scent of something it couldn’t resist—the smell of precious treasures...
