Chapter 907: What? Pizarro Was Captured?!
Chapter 907: What? Pizarro Was Captured?!
"Blorp! Blorp! Blorp!"
The Transponder Snail on Kuro's desk at G-3 Fortress suddenly squawked to life.
Kuro had his boots propped on the table, reclining with his eyes closed in apparent doze. At the noise, he cracked one eye open, irritation flashing through it. "Lida."
"You were obviously closer - why do I always have to answer?" Lida grumbled, hopping onto the desk and settling cross-legged to grab the receiver. "Hello, this is G-3 Fortress."
"Vice Admiral!" A serious voice crackled through. "This is G-314 Branch reporting - we have a critical situation!"
Lida held the receiver out. "Hey, Kuro, it's for you."
"I can hear that. Let him talk." Kuro didn't move an inch.
The Transponder Snail's animated face contorted dramatically, its mouth flapping open and shut like a fish. "A Half-Fishman squadron has captured Blackbeard's Fourth Captain, Abaro Pizarro! They're docking here with his ship!"
"Hmph!" Kuro shot upright so fast his chair squeaked, snatching the receiver from Lida's hand. His eyes widened. "Who?! Abaro Pizarro?! One of Marshall D. Teach's bastards?! Explain - how the hell was he captured? I thought Teach was holed up at the far end of the New World!"
"Affirmative! The Half-Fishman captain responsible is Joe Rudolph. He claims he wants to hand this prisoner over as a former Seven Warlord of the Sea, saying he's acquainted with you, so-"
"Put them on hold! I'm coming immediately!" Kuro slammed the receiver down with such force the Transponder Snail's face wobbled. He sat frozen for a moment before exploding. "Shit!!"
"Huh? Kuro? What's with your local lingo this time?" Lida tilted his head, asking.
That phrase of his 'mother tongue' could mean various things depending on context. Every time Kuro used it, it carried different implications.
He'd said the exact same thing when first meeting Shirahoshi.
"No, this one's just plain 'shit'." Kuro growled, rubbing his temples. "Teach's top commander getting captured? This could trigger an all-out war!"
Truth was, Kuro had no desire to provoke the New World's Four Emperors. Let them tear each other apart while the Navy watched from the sidelines. That suited him just fine.
But no one could've predicted this.
"Joe Rudolph - that Half-Fishman captain from earlier." Lida mused, stroking his chin. "He seemed pretty strong. So what now, Kuro? Should we have him release Pizarro?"
"Are you joking?!" Kuro's voice rose an octave. "What Navy pride would we have left? What about my own damn reputation?!"
Abaro Pizarro - the Despot King. One of the world's most dangerous criminals. The World Government had even erased his history from records. This former tyrant king had countless rumors swirling around him as a terrifying threat. And he'd been the one who helped Blackbeard claw his way out of the Sixth Level hell - one of the few pirates who'd survived that nightmare to rise as a monster.
Now, he'd been captured.
No matter whether Teach would come for him or not, Kuro couldn't afford to gamble.
Frankly, he doubted Teach would. That man was the opposite of Whitebeard. Whitebeard would move heaven and earth to rescue any 'son' in danger. Teach? If you were strong, you were his ally. If you died? Proof you weren't strong enough.
A man who lived by 'might makes right'.
But what if he did come? Leaving such a decision to a pirate's whims was foolish. So Kuro's choice was clear.
Call for backup!!
"Clang! Clang!"
Kuro shoved the window open, shouting to the docks. "Bring me G-314 Branch's Log Pose!"
At the same time, he activated the Transponder Snail on his wrist, dialing a number. The screen crackled to life.
"This is Admiral Lucius Kro's office."
"Kuro here. Connect me to Gramps!"
"Right away, Vice Admiral Kuro!" A shout echoed, then the screen shifted to show Lucius Kro's smug face.
"Oho~ Kuro..."
"Gramps, I need your help!" Kuro cut in before the old man could finish. "A Half-Fishman squadron captured Blackbeard's Fourth Captain Pizarro. I'm moving to take custody at G-314 Branch. You better hurry too - I'm worried Teach's bastards might try snatching him mid-air!"
"Blackbeard, you say? He is frightening indeed~" Lucius Kro puckered his lips. "Starting another 'Top War' by challenging the Four Emperors?"
"The man's already captured - we can't just let him go! I'll hold position there."
Kuro severed the call and immediately redialed.
"Brother Yi Xiao..."
Besides Lucius Kro, Kuro also summoned Yi Xiao. The latter had been 'resting' at Headquarters, but readily agreed upon hearing Kuro's request.
He also mobilized every Vice Admiral stationed at Headquarters.
Meanwhile, the clanging sound had been the Log Pose carrier entering the office, handing the device to Kuro.
Kuro kicked off the windowsill, body floating upward, before turning to shout. "I'm off first! Deploy the Golden Lion! Notify all G-3 Navy squadrons on patrol to return immediately! Contact Kas and Wilbur too - have them rush their ships to G-314 Branch! We must extract Pizarro before Teach arrives!"
With that, Kuro rocketed forward, his body bursting through the air with a sonic boom, following the Log Pose's signal.
"Hey! You're not leaving me behind, Kuro!"
Lida shouted from the windowsill, but there was no sign of Kuro's shadow anymore. He could only stomp his foot in frustration.
Headquarters.
"Captured Pizarro?"
Fleet Admiral Sakazuki listened to Lucius Kro's report, momentarily stunned. "Why wasn't I informed?"
"Hmm, who knows? Perhaps he has his own reasons." Lucius Kro shrugged.
Sakazuki nodded slowly. "An internal operation then. If I had approved, it would've become an official Navy action - leaks more likely. Capturing Pizarro could bait Blackbeard into a trap. With you, Kuro, and Vegapunk working together, we might even cripple Blackbeard severely! A true display of Justice. Borsalino, mobilize. I authorize you to take Vegapunk with ten warships."
"Oho~ Then I'll be off! That boy sounded positively frantic." Lucius Kro quipped, turning into a yellow light beam that vanished.
Watching him go, Sakazuki clenched his fist, crimson glinting on his gloves as a smirk curled his lips.
He understood Kuro's intentions perfectly. This wasn't just a secret Navy operation. It was about keeping the World Government in the dark.
Otherwise, with the World Government's recent summit conclusions, launching an operation so soon would be unlikely.
But he couldn't wait!
Sakazuki's vision was Absolute Justice. The end of this Great Pirate Era, not another resurgence.
One Four Emperors wasn't enough? Then add another Four Emperors to properly intimidate these pirates.
Kuro's thinking must've aligned with his own, hence the silence.
"This old man won't lose to a young upstart Navy officer", Sakazuki murmured to himself.
No matter. He understood. He understood everything.
