Chapter 903: This is Magic... They Are Wizards!
Ivan waved his wand, deflecting the rain falling from the sky. He then straightened his clothes, pushed open the inn's door, and walked inside.
As soon as he entered, a warm, cozy heat immediately enveloped him. The old fireplace on the right wall was burning with an Incendio spell, blocking out the cold and dampness from outside.
Ivan glanced around. The inn was three stories tall, and the first floor had been converted into a small restaurant to generate extra income.
Although it wasn't yet mealtime, several long tables by the fireplace were already occupied by many people, most likely the inn's guests.
The innkeeper was an elderly white man with graying hair and glasses. He was leaning back in a chair at the front desk, engrossed in a newspaper, completely oblivious to the sound of the door opening.
What caught Ivan's attention most were two men dressed in robes, who stood out markedly from the surrounding Muggles.
Wizards? Ivan furrowed his brow, quickly confirming their identities. He found it strange that Wizards entering Muggle territory would not try to blend in to avoid exposure, at least not to the point of being so conspicuous.
After all, this wasn't a place like the Leaky Cauldron, where most of the tenants were Muggles who didn't know about magic.
Despite his curiosity, Ivan had no intention of approaching them. These Wizards were clearly not the people he was here to meet; their age and appearance were entirely different. As a newcomer, Ivan didn't want to stir up any trouble.
This was France, not Britain, and he had important matters to attend to. There was no need to create unnecessary problems for himself.
With about half an hour to go before his scheduled meeting, Ivan went to the front desk to order lunch. He found a quiet spot by the side and sat down, then thought for a moment before pulling a white napkin from the wastebasket and placing it on the corner of the table.
This was the contact signal Pierce had told him about, something Rolf had specifically requested. Ivan found it rather amusing that a simple meeting had to be conducted like an undercover agent's rendezvous.
Ivan shook his head inwardly, took a bite of the hard baguette, and listened with interest to the Muggles around him discussing their daily lives, feeling a bit more like an ordinary person.
As he was munching on the baguette, a voice from his right caught his attention.
"Seriously, you won't believe this, but I saw a monster as big as a house while climbing a mountain a few days ago. It had three pairs of wings, all golden feathers. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera to take a picture..."
Ivan turned to see a Muggle wearing a round cap enthusiastically sharing his bizarre experience with a few friends.
His story, however, was met with skepticism. In this day and age, if such a monster existed, it would have been captured and put on display by the military long ago.
"I swear, every word I'm saying is true! The rain these past few days must be because of that monster!" The Muggle with the round cap turned red and shouted.
"Come on, Cole, your story is getting old", a white woman scoffed. "Last week, someone claimed that a few Wizards who could do magic had come to town, wielding short sticks in a back alley. It turned out to be just a few magicians putting on a show."
Ivan found their argument amusing, especially the middle-aged Muggle with the round cap. He considered approaching the man to ask about the Thunderbird.
Suddenly, Ivan's eyebrows furrowed, his gaze locking onto the two male wizards in robes. He sensed a magical fluctuation from them.
In the next moment, the white woman who had been talking about performing a magic trick suddenly fell to the ground. The chair behind her had inexplicably vanished.
"Who, who did that?!" The woman scrambled to her feet, furious, and turned around, thinking someone had sneakily pulled her chair away. But strangely, there was no one behind her, and not a trace of the chair could be found.
"Annie, your chair... it seemed to disappear on its own..." Cole, the Muggle, said shakily, having just witnessed the chair beneath her vanish in an instant.
"You mean my chair disappeared on its own? Ridiculous!" Annie shouted, her voice trembling slightly. She was beginning to wonder if she had encountered some kind of supernatural event in broad daylight.
The other Muggles were skeptical, but their doubts were quickly interrupted by another scream.
"Snake... snake!"
A two-meter-long green serpent slithered out from under the table, hissing and poised to strike. The small inn erupted into chaos.
Only Ivan, sitting in a secluded corner, saw clearly that it was the two wizards causing all the trouble.
He could understand them playing a prank on the Muggles for a laugh, but now they were really going too far by trying to harm someone...
With this thought, Ivan took the half-eaten baguette from his mouth and gently tossed it to the ground.
Upon landing, the baguette quickly transformed into a mongoose, which sprang out from a blind spot, nimbly biting the serpent's tail and dragging it out the window.
In just a second, the once-ferocious serpent was carried away by an unknown animal, leaving everyone momentarily stunned.
The two wizards, whose fun had been interrupted, glared at Ivan. Before they could react, the inn's door burst open.
Five Aurors, dressed in gray, stormed in...
Seeing the newcomers, the two wizards' faces paled. They had no time to teach the brat who had ruined their fun a lesson. They quickly drew their wands and prepared to flee.
But it was too late. The Aurors launched their spells the moment they saw them.
"Expelliarmus!"
"Petrificus Totalus!"
"Stupefy!"
...
A series of seven or eight spells struck the two male wizards, who were unable to dodge in time. The fight was over in a matter of seconds.
The Muggles in the inn stared wide-eyed at the battle, which defied all logic and shattered their worldviews.
"Magic, this is magic... they're wizards!" Annie screamed.
The lead Auror, clearly experienced, didn't panic. He cast a Confundus Charm, and the seven Muggles were left dazed, sitting back in their seats.
The remaining Aurors then skillfully cast Memory Charms on each Muggle, making them forget what they shouldn't remember. They also used Reparo to repair the damaged tables and chairs.
