Chapter 902: The Unnecessary Principal
Chapter 902: The Unnecessary Principal
A Double Kill in One Turn!
Kouronosu and Napoleon, the two head coaches of the Academy, were utterly dejected, their spirits crushed as they gazed at their opponent, their eyes filled with despair.
Defeat.
Despite giving it their all, they couldn't overcome their opponent. Yet, they had truly done their best.
But their opponent was indeed not human. Now, they realized how naive their initial thoughts were at the start of the duel.
Just because it was a two-on-one duel, with double the hand size, double the life points, double the field, and even double the turns, they thought they might have a chance.
Looking back, they found their thoughts laughable.
Who was their opponent?
The Sarlacc of the Academy, the pinnacle of the Dueling world!
What about Kaiba, Seto Kaiba, or the Pegasus brothers? These legends they had heard of since entering the Dueling world had all fallen to this young man.
Even with a two-on-one advantage, how could they, mere Academy teachers, hope to stand a chance against such a formidable opponent?
Kouronosu, with his Triple-Fused Ancient Mechanical Golem, had a formidable 4400 ATK. He considered it his trump card, a hidden ace he had never used against students since joining the Academy.
However, compared to his opponent's relentless onslaught of powerful monsters, Kouronosu felt deflated, like a three-year-old brandishing a plastic knife.
Napoleon looked at Kouronosu helplessly.
"Perhaps we never really had a chance from the start," he muttered dejectedly, "I really don't want to be unemployed with Kouronosu."
"Don't complain," Kouronosu sighed, "I still have twenty-six years of mortgage payments left."
He felt a headache coming on again.
It was strange; despite their loss, Napoleon hadn't managed to finish him off as expected. Yet, for the first time, Kouronosu felt that Napoleon didn't seem so detestable.
Napoleon felt the same way. Kouronosu didn't seem as annoying as he usually did.
Now that they were both unemployed, they might be leaving the Duel Academy together tomorrow. Perhaps they would become brothers after working together for a couple of years.
"Thank you both for your guidance, teachers," Yuugen said with a smile as he put away his Duel Disk and stepped forward.
The two professors exchanged glances and sighed, their faces filled with helplessness.
"Don't mention it, Yuugen," Kouronosu said, "I know that I have nothing left to teach you. I'm no longer your teacher."
"Don't say that," Yuugen said, his smile fading as he spoke earnestly, "Teacher, you've helped me a lot since I first came to the Academy, and there's still much I can learn from you.
No matter where I go or what I achieve, I will never forget that you are one of my most important teachers."
Kouronosu's eyes shone with emotion, deeply touched by Yuugen's words.
This student had already surpassed him, reaching heights he had never imagined. Yet, he still acknowledged him as his teacher, and for a moment, Kouronosu felt that he had no regrets left at the Academy.
"Then, if you don't mind, please continue to guide me on the path of research and exploration," Yuugen said with a smile.
The two professors looked at each other.
"Huh?"
"So..."
Napoleon asked, a bit incredulous.
"Does that mean...?"
"Of course," Yuugen said seriously, "I never said that winning was the only way to pass, right?
"The two coaches were first surprised, then simultaneously revealed their delight."
"So, that means we..."
Kouronosu looked at Napoleon.
The two men suddenly hugged each other.
"We're saved!"
"Hahaha—"
The two excited professors laughed and cried, completely disregarding their image in front of the students. This had been their style since the anime's daily life episodes, so they had long since lost any concern for their image.
This was a case of a blessing in disguise, a fortunate turn of events that brought new opportunities.
But before they could rejoice for long, Yuuugen's next words caused their smiles to freeze.
"Of course, it's on the condition that the principal agrees," Yuuugen said with a peculiar smile, "After all, I don't want people to say that I'm poaching from my alma mater."
"Huh?"
The two men were taken aback and turned to look at each other in confusion.
"But..."
"Weren't we fired by the principal?"
"Is that really the case?" Yuuugen asked, "Do you remember what the principal said exactly?"
The two men looked at each other, speechless.
"Or, you can ask the principal directly."
Yuuugen stepped aside and pointed towards the teaching building.
A moment later, Principal Samejima could be seen walking slowly from the direction of the teaching building, his shining head visible from a distance.
Noticing the commotion, Principal Samejima paused, then walked over curiously, "Hmm? Everyone's here, what's going on?"
Touka: "Oh, I heard that the two coaches were just fired by the academy. So, they're insisting on going to work in Yuuugen's laboratory."
Principal Samejima was perplexed: "Fired? How come I didn't know about this?"
Now it was the two professors' turn to be confused.
They exchanged glances.
"Wait a minute..."
"But," Napoleon said blankly, "Just now in the office, you seemed to be telling us to pack up and leave."
Principal Samejima was first perplexed, then he seemed to realize something.
"Oh, oh, you mean that."
He rubbed his bald head awkwardly.
"My apologies, I was in a bad mood and might have been a bit rude. I was deep in thought at the time, wanting some peace and quiet, so I asked you to leave the office. There was no other intention."
"Huh?"
The two professors looked at each other again, speechless for a moment.
Logically, learning that they hadn't been fired and that it was all a misunderstanding, they should be happy that their jobs were secure.
But why couldn't they feel any joy?
"That's great, teachers," Touka smiled, "You can continue teaching us. We would have been sad to see you go suddenly."
"Ah, ahaha, yes," the two professors forced a laugh.
But their smiles were bitter.
In their hearts, they wanted to say, 'Principal Samejima, please don't bring this up. I'm afraid Yuuugen will misunderstand.'
But in this situation, it was impossible to say it out loud.
"It's okay, teachers. With this intention, even as academy professors, you can still work part-time in our laboratory, guiding the students."
Yuuugen said politely.
"We will always have a place for you here."
"Indeed, Yuuugen's side has significant output, and it's a great honor for the academy as well," Principal Samejima said with a smile, rubbing his hands together, "We can definitely have more exchanges when there's time."
But after saying this, Principal Samejima touched his face and suddenly felt a strange sensation for no apparent reason.
He suddenly felt a bit superfluous as the principal of this academy.
