Chapter 902: Memory Thread
Chapter 902: Memory Thread
After bidding farewell to Pierce, Ivan wasted no time. The next day, he set up the Fidelius Charm in the mansion and instructed the Granger family to stay put in the estate and not to venture out unnecessarily.
“Are you leaving tomorrow, Ivan? So soon?” Hermione said with a hint of reluctance.
“Yeah, it’s a rather urgent matter. It might take a couple of weeks, but I should be back before school starts…” Ivan replied hesitantly, knowing that searching for the Thunderbird and tracking down Grindelwald would take at least ten to fifteen days.
“Alright…” Hermione drew out the word, her lip pouting. They had just agreed to spend some time together in London the day before.
But the young witch understood that whatever was driving Ivan to act so urgently must be extremely important, if not downright dangerous. She didn’t argue but stepped forward to give him a hug. “Be sure to stay safe!”
“Ha, it’s not that dangerous…” Ivan tried to reassure her, but Hermione clearly didn’t buy it. She stared at him intently, as if trying to read his face for any signs.
Ivan scratched his head and quickly changed the subject. “By the way, I left Ravenclaw’s Diadem in the Alchemy Room’s bookshelf. You can wear it whenever you need to.”
“But remember… no staying up late to read!” Ivan tapped the young witch’s forehead with a warning tone.
Hermione pouted, looking at Ivan with a mixture of annoyance and indignation. She didn’t stay up late; she just sometimes got so engrossed in her reading that she ended up sleeping a bit later.
“Can I contact you through the Magic Mark if I have questions while reading?” Hermione asked, realizing that despite the long separation, they could still communicate anytime.
“Of course, no problem. As long as I’m not busy, we can chat all day if you want.” Ivan smiled in response.
Hermione’s face turned slightly red as she huffed, half-tempted to punch Ivan’s shoulder in frustration.
Ivan skillfully dodged her, his smile fading slightly as he continued more seriously. “However, if I’m in the middle of something important, I might temporarily cut off the communication function.”
While the Magic Mark was incredibly useful, it could sometimes cause unnecessary distractions, especially during battles.
“As for your Alchemy lessons… you can use this!” Ivan tapped his wand to his temple, and after a moment, he drew out thin, white wisps of mist, which he carefully placed into several glass bottles.
“This is… Memory Thread?” Hermione looked at the wisps of mist in the bottles, her eyes widening in wonder.
“Exactly. These are my memories from when I was learning Alchemy and creating Alchemical Constructs. You can use a Pensieve to view them.” Ivan nodded, placing a strand of Memory Thread into the Pensieve and gesturing for the young witch to try it out.
Hermione eagerly followed Ivan’s instructions, immersing her face in the Pensieve. After about three minutes, she lifted her head, looking at Ivan with excitement. “Wow, how did you come up with this idea? Using memory transfer to learn?”
“Is it effective?” Ivan asked, curious.
"Simply amazing!" Hermione said with a smile. In the world of memories, she could see every step Ivan took when creating a Magic Item, which was far better than just reading those Alchemy Books.
The best part was that the memories could be reviewed repeatedly, as if an indefatigable Master was demonstrating the process over and over in front of her.
"Hogwarts should really incorporate this into the regular curriculum", Hermione declared firmly. This way, they wouldn't have to worry about missing important knowledge in class due to distractions.
"It's not as simple as you think... Only outstanding Legilimens can extract their own memories, and it's a very private matter. Not many Wizards are willing to share their memories with others", Ivan said, unable to help but laugh and cry at the same time.
It was only because of their close relationship that he dared to do this. Even so, when Hermione was viewing the memory, Ivan still felt a bit strange.
After setting their study plan, Ivan spent the last half-day taking Hermione around London, enjoying a good relaxation. The next morning, he set off alone to the Muggles' airport, preparing to fly to France.
Although he had visited France a few times by Apparition while studying Alchemy with Nicolas Flamel, those coordinates had been erased. Ivan had to use some less magical means to travel.
Fortunately, Muggles' transportation had developed significantly over the years. The flight from Britain to his destination took only a little over an hour.
After obtaining a forged identity document from the Ministry of Magic, Ivan smoothly passed through security and boarded the plane, relishing the feeling of being a Muggle.
Exiting the airport, Ivan hailed a taxi to the mysterious seaside town.
The driver was a bald, middle-aged man who looked quite prosperous but was a bit too talkative. He enthusiastically shared his life experiences with Ivan, this "college student on a vacation", and complained about the recent awful weather.
"It's been raining for two whole weeks without a single sunny day. This damned weather!" the bald man grumbled. His home was in this town, and if the rain continued for a few more days, he feared his furniture would start to mold.
Hearing this, Ivan couldn't help but turn and look out the window. It was drizzling continuously, with dark clouds covering the sky, casting a somber, oppressive atmosphere over the entire town.
If this situation had persisted for two weeks, it was indeed problematic. No wonder the Ministry of Magic's spies thought they might find the Thunderbird here.
As Ivan was thinking, the taxi gradually slowed down and stopped in front of a secluded inn. The place seemed quite old, with a weathered sign and peeling advertisements on the outer walls.
"If you can, you should consider staying somewhere else. The area's safety has always been a bit questionable", the bald driver hesitated before warning.
"Thank you for your advice, I'll be careful!" Ivan said calmly as he paid and got out of the car. He actually thought this place was perfect for Wizards—quiet and secluded.
"Stubborn young fool..." the middle-aged driver muttered, then sped off down the street.
