Chapter 90: Tobi Has a Cow, Run!
Chapter 90: Tobi Has a Cow, Run!
"When did the Konoha barrier become so tight?"
Outside the village, Tobi Uchiha's face darkened after his infiltration attempt failed. The village was now surrounded by a spherical barrier both underground and in the sky. While the barrier's strength wasn't high, it was likely that anyone who entered would be detected immediately.
"Want to try my Flea Technique?"
White Zetsu, standing beside him, chuckled and suggested, enjoying Tobi's frustration. He giggled and offered a suggestion.
"It's not reliable enough," Tobi coldly rejected the idea. He recited the password to open the barrier, grateful that although the strength had increased, the password had not changed. The two of them smoothly entered Konoha without raising any alarms.
"You seem to be quite averse to using the method of returning to Konoha as a Konoha ninja."
"A rotten village in a dirty ninja world," Tobi sneered. Ever since Rin's death, he had no attachment to this disgusting world.
White Zetsu attached himself to Tobi, and the two sank into the ground, quickly reaching the Uchiha compound. However, they found it empty.
"What's going on? Did the Uchiha clan move their base again?" Tobi felt a sense of foreboding and ordered White Zetsu to gather information.
A moment later, White Zetsu returned, his head full of questions. "Apparently, a few days ago, a powerful intruder attacked Konoha, defeating most of the village's ninja. The Uchiha managed to turn the tide, and for the safety of the villagers, the Uchiha clan, as the village's guard force, was moved closer to the center."
Konoha's leadership actually welcomed the Uchiha back?
Tobi's brow furrowed. If the conflict was resolved, how could the Uchiha clan be wiped out, and how could Sasuke awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan?
"How powerful was this intruder?"
White Zetsu shifted uncomfortably. "About as strong as someone I wouldn't dare to ask about their bowel movements."
Tobi: "..."
What the hell does that mean?
"Speak clearly!"
White Zetsu pointed towards the direction of the former Forest of Death. "They say his battle with the Konoha ninja turned the Forest of Death into a Lake of Death."
He seemed a bit angry. "Damn, that's probably how my clones died. But something doesn't add up. If the intruder and Konoha were fighting slowly, my clones should have had time to escape."
Tobi fell silent for a moment before asking, "How large is the Forest of Death?"
"About twenty kilometers in diameter."
"Can you think of any Konoha ninja who could destroy a twenty-kilometer forest, not just on the surface but deep enough to create a lake-sized crater?"
White Zetsu thought for a moment. "If Madara were revived at his prime and used a wide-area jutsu, it might take some time, but he could probably do it."
"I'm talking about a living Konoha ninja!"
"Madara was a Konoha ninja in his prime," White Zetsu replied dumbly.
Was he insisting that it had to be a currently living Konoha ninja?
Tobi was too tired to explain. Clearly, the village was embellishing the truth. The Forest of Death was likely destroyed by a powerful jutsu released by the so-called intruder in an instant.
"Close to, or even surpassing Madara's strength?"
This was a big problem.
Tobi's thoughts became chaotic. Such a powerful individual would introduce many variables, and he hated variables.
"Should we still go to the Uchiha?"
"Yes."
Tobi took a deep breath. Since they were already here, it would be a waste of time to turn back.
...
Sasuke Uchiha was training in the clan's training room.
He lightly threw a kunai, severing the control wire of a mechanism. Kunai from all directions shot towards him. Without using chakra to enhance his body, an ordinary ninja would be instantly turned into a sieve.
The three-tomoe Sharingan in his eyes spun rapidly. He had awakened it after the death of two teammates, and it had immediately formed with two tomoe. When he heard that Shisui had gone to support alone, his two-tomoe Sharingan had evolved into a three-tomoe.
His talent was so enviable that other Uchiha, who had lost their entire families without awakening the Sharingan, wanted to kill him.
Sasuke leaped high, observing the trajectory of all the kunai. He threw three kunai, and in a dazzling series of collisions, he landed unscathed.
It was effective against ordinary ninja, but useless against jounin and above.
Recalling the battle from a few days ago, Sasuke sighed. He always worried about things that weren't his concern.
A foreign presence suddenly filled the air, and Sasuke, holding a kunai, turned around.
"Who's there?"
Tobi, covered in White Zetsu's skin, appeared from the air, clapping.
"It's been a long time since I've seen such a talented younger generation. So young and already with a three-tomoe Sharingan," Tobi said, smiling behind his mask.
"You can call me Tobi, or you can call me..."
"Uchiha Madara!"
Sasuke: "..."
So, you're Madara too?
Seeing Sasuke fall silent, Tobi smirked.
Children are children, after all. He was clearly intimidated by the name of his clan's ancestor.
Just as he was about to start manipulating him, Tobi saw Sasuke pull a torn-up seal from his pocket.
Confused, he heard White Zetsu's voice in his ear.
"Um, that seal is an alarm to notify of an intruder. My sensors show that the Uchiha ninja are on their way."
Tobi: "..."
His mind was about to explode. He couldn't wipe out the entire Uchiha clan in a short time, and if he alerted Konoha, it would be trouble.
It wasn't the right time to reveal himself to the Hidden Leaf Village just yet.
Damn brat!
He glared at the culprit, Uchiha Itachi, only to find that the real Itachi had already escaped, leaving behind a highly realistic clone.
Hearing rapid footsteps approaching, Tobi grimaced and activated his Kamui to escape.
...
"Did you write this?"
Kakashi's expression was peculiar as he flipped through the book, finding it hard to stop reading. Despite his aloof and cold demeanor, he was still a healthy, energetic young man in his prime.
Reading Icha Icha Paradise wasn't just about putting up a resistant front; otherwise, why would he choose to read ero-mangas to deter others from getting close? It was because he genuinely enjoyed them!
Page by page, Kakashi read through the first volume, his face turning red as he shifted uncomfortably in his chair to adjust his position.
It was incredible, absolutely incredible.
Icha Icha Paradise was nothing compared to this.
Kakashi's emotions were complex as he looked at Luk, his eyes filled with a mix of confusion, admiration, and a deep sense of concern, as if he had just seen a usually serious and diligent coworker at a nightclub or a minor secretly drinking behind their parents' backs.
He could only describe Luk with four words.
You're so naughty.
Luk, seeing the look of a wayward youth in Kakashi's eyes, felt a vein pop on his forehead.
"I wrote it to help you."
"What do you mean?" Kakashi was a bit confused. He had thought it was a little gift Luk had prepared for him. Although he felt a bit embarrassed, he actually liked it.
"Jiraiya is the author of Icha Icha Paradise. If you publish a novel of the same genre that far surpasses Icha Icha Paradise, he'll come to you without you having to seek him out."
Luk shrugged, "Not to mention, I even used his name as the protagonist. Whether to learn from the master or to seek revenge on someone who's using his name, he has plenty of reasons to find you."
Although I think this will just make Jiraiya even more pleased.
Luk added silently in his mind.
"Jiraiya is the author of Icha Icha Paradise?"
Hearing that his long-admired idol was one of the Sannin, Jiraiya, Kakashi froze, but quickly recovered, nodding indifferently as if he already knew.
Now, he had a new idol.
Kakashi's eyes sparkled as he stared at Luk.
"Will there be a second volume?"
Luk rubbed his chin, "It's not impossible, but I'm a bit worried about the sudden drop in the entire shinobi world's physical health."
He had plenty of material in his mind.
For instance, the Moonlight Clan's invisibility techniques, the Akimichi Clan's enlargement techniques, and the Yamanaka Clan's mind manipulation techniques...
As he thought, his expression changed.
Damn, why didn't I think of becoming a copycat author before? I've been working iron for over a decade for nothing!
Feeling a bit sad, Luk suddenly sensed someone watching him. He glanced at Kakashi, who was oblivious, staring at him with eager eyes, clearly wanting to know about the next volume.
Here comes the main course.
Luk smiled silently and stood up.
"I'll be right back. I need to use the restroom."
"Take your time."
...
"Uchiha already knows about the outsider and will soon inform the entire Hidden Leaf Village. You're still here even though you're about to be discovered, just to watch Kakashi, right? You still can't forget him, can you?"
White Zetsu stood beside Tobi, his gaze shifting between Tobi, Kakashi, and Luk, as if watching a dramatic love triangle.
"But it looks like he already has someone else beside him, doesn't it? You've been completely replaced."
Tobi's heart ached, the pain resurfacing in a heart he thought was numb. Seeing Kakashi ignore him and look at another man with admiration and respect, he snorted coldly.
"I have no feelings for Kakashi. In fact, from the moment he killed Rin, we became enemies."
As for the man Kakashi was looking at, he remembered his name was Luk Chuanqian.
Despite being just a civilian, he always seemed to be around them, always trying to get close to Kakashi while being polite but distant to both him and Rin.
Tobi laughed mockingly. It seems, after losing his teammate, Kakashi has taken that man as a replacement for me. He's so weak that he can't even live without someone.
But he, Uchiha Tobi, would create a world where Rin still existed.
"But you didn't take Kakashi's life back then, and you even left your other eye with him."
"Shut up! Why are you so talkative today?"
Tobi snapped, suddenly feeling something was off. The voice didn't sound like White Zetsu's.
He activated his Kamui, shifting into a translucent state, and turned to look.
A young man with a handsome, slightly bruised face was smiling at him, holding the unconscious White Zetsu.
I guess I'll finish this chapter today.
