Chapter 90: The Captain
Chapter 90: The Captain
There he is—the Prince of Pleasure. Kuro had seen his photo in the newspaper before; the East Blue idol seemed almost exaggeratedly handsome.
Many people adored him.
But Kuro couldn’t fathom why.
At least their group looked utterly unimpressed.
Siva noticed their indifference and chuckled, “Well, maybe puppets don’t excite you. Wait until you meet the real Prince of Pleasure—you’ll fall for him. Our royal prince possesses an irresistible charm.”
“Besides puppets, Commercial Street also offers clothing, jewelry, and exquisite Weapons. Navy officers looking to upgrade their armaments should definitely check out the shops.”
Siva pointed toward a Weapon store, “Morgant doesn’t stock many Weapons, but every single one is a masterpiece.”
Kuro wasn’t sure whether the store’s wares were truly top-tier, but they certainly looked impressive—not adorned with flashy gems, just golden embellishments. It was all very ostentatious.
Stepping inside, Kuro gestured toward a pistol in the display case, “Let me see that one.”
“Coming right up!”
The gaunt-faced shopkeeper grinned as he handed over the flintlock pistol.
Crafted from ivory with golden trim, it was a sleek, stylish firearm. Kuro loved it.
Guns had universal appeal—no man could resist them.
“How much?” Kuro asked.
“Five million Beri,” the shopkeeper rubbed his hands together, “but as a Navy officer, you get 30% off in Morgant. That’s 3.5 million Beri for you.”
This rusty piece costs that much?
Kuro clicked his tongue, twirling the ivory pistol in his hand, “Fine. I’ll take this one. Come to my ship later for the payment.”
“Understood!” The shopkeeper’s smile widened. “Looking forward to your next visit!”
As Kuro stepped outside, the pistol now holstered at his waist, he couldn’t help but admire it. A grand voyage felt incomplete without a flintlock—wasn’t that the essence of adventure?
Kuro was a romantic at heart.
Absolutely!
He scratched his nose, then casually wiped his fingers on Lida’s coat.
“Kurokuro, look! Jewelry Store!”
This time, Lida pointed excitedly without Siva’s introduction, dashing ahead into the shop.
Though she appeared as a petite girl, she was actually a grown woman. Every woman loved sparkly things, after all.
Back when Lida struggled to feed herself, she’d traded shiny trinkets for food. But now that Kuro provided for her, she could indulge in these pleasures again.
Morgant’s “Four-legged gold-devouring beast” reputation was well-earned.
Kuro didn’t mind—just some jewelry.
After browsing, Lida chose four golden hoop earrings, slipping them onto her wrists and ankles to show off.
“Look!”
Kuro nodded half-heartedly.
“Wait, wait!”
Her eyes lit up as she spotted another pair—these featured smooth yellow gemstones with tiny golden hoops above them, designed to stretch earlobes rather than pierce them.
“Kuro! You’ll look amazing in these!” Lida held them up, already reaching for his ears.
“Me?”
Kuro pointed at himself, shaking his head, “No way. I’m a captain—no earrings for me.”
“These are male accessories,” the shopkeeper chimed in.
“Wear it! Wear it!” Lida insisted, transforming into her statuesque young woman form to reach his ears.
Pop!
The golden hoops instantly pulled his earlobes into a stylish stretch.
“See? Perfect!” Lida beamed. “Let’s get these!”
“You’re impossible,” Kuro sighed, catching his reflection in a floor mirror.
His long coat was fastened neatly, the hem draping to his calves, with the Justice-hooded cloak billowing behind. His pale face and delicate features carried a lazy edge, but the earrings added a touch of mystery.
A cross-shaped tattoo on his forehead would’ve completed the image…
“I could start my own mercenary troop with this look.”
He smirked, handing the shopkeeper a card, “Add it to my tab. Delivery to my ship.”
Elsewhere, Klah chose golden-rimmed spectacles, adjusting them smugly.
After leaving the jewelry store and browsing a few more shops, Commercial Street’s novelty faded.
Siva interjected, “Now that you’ve seen Commercial Street, may I guide you to Morgant’s most famous attraction—Funland.”
Outside, horse-drawn carriages adorned with whimsical decorations awaited.
Siva bowed at a pumpkin-shaped carriage, “Please, board here.”
The driverless horses wore perpetual grins. Kuro and Lida hopped aboard, the carriage gliding toward a fairytale castle in the distance.
While Morgant was known for shopping, Pleasure Island’s Funland was its true star.
Upon arrival, Siva greeted them, “Welcome to Morgant!”
Ferris wheels, roller coasters, costumed mascots, balloons, pastries, and smiling Harlequins filled the air. Rising behind it all was the towering royal castle—off-limits to visitors.
“Funland offers both entertainment and lodging,” Siva explained. “I’ll guide you personally—no need to worry about getting lost.”
“Let’s ride that!” Lida pointed at the roller coaster, gripping Kuro’s hand.
“Let’s ride it all,” Kuro replied, puffing his cigar with a grin.
Funland was for having fun, after all.
…
From dawn to dusk, Kuro indulged Lida’s whims, riding every attraction until she tired.
This world’s technology was baffling—Grand Line’s magnetism aside, the Four Seas’ kingdoms varied wildly in advancement. Such diversity defined the world.
At a beverage shop, Lida licked her ice cream while Kuro smoked, watching tourists chatter.
“Hurry! Prince of Pleasure’s play starts soon!”
“I came just for this!”
“Prince of Pleasure-sama, ahhhhhh!”
“Stage play?” Kuro turned to Siva, “Is your prince in it?”
“Naturally,” Siva smiled. “Morgant’s fame stems entirely from his performances. I strongly recommend Navy officers watch it—see how our kingdom rose to power. Even neighboring Navy officers rave about our theatrical productions!”
