Chapter 90: Spring Festival
Chapter 90: Spring Festival (Seeking Monthly Votes)
Martial Dao Calendar 2046, January 14th
Today was New Year's Eve.
The Hao Yue Festival had concluded, and everyone had returned home to prepare for the holiday. Lin Qi was no exception—he'd enjoyed the rare luxury of sleeping until nine o'clock that morning.
Though the Advanced Revitalizing Elixirs had worked wonders, the toll on his body had been immense. Battling to reach the Hao Yue Stage over the past few days had drained his spirit completely.
As he sat in his family's car, Lin Zhen suddenly smiled and turned to him from the driver's seat. "Little Qi, we got good news from Dr. Li yesterday. Your mother's surgery is scheduled for the 17th—two days from now."
"Really?" Lin Qi's eyes lit up.
Fang Huiyi nodded warmly. "Yes! The toxins in your mother's body will finally be completely eliminated. No more suffering."
The three of them laughed together.
Beep!
["Your Icbc card ending in xx received 3 million Xia Kingdom Yuan on January 14th at 10:02 AM. Balance: 6.0635 million Xia Kingdom Yuan!"]
Lin Qi checked his phone—a welcome surprise. 3 million Xia Kingdom Yuan had just been credited to his account. Today was truly a day of double blessings.
"Mom, Dad—the 3 million reward came through. Let me cover today's shopping!" he announced.
"Three million?!" Fang Huiyi and Lin Zhen exchanged astonished glances before beaming with pride. That was their son—always making waves.
---
Twenty minutes later, their car pulled into Wanda Plaza. Festive red couplets adorned every storefront, and cheerful songs like Congratulations on Your Wealth and Good Fortune Arrives played through the streets.
On the plaza's giant screen, a news anchor reported: "To ensure a peaceful New Year celebration, major war zones are intensifying patrols against Disaster Beasts. Several title-holding Martial Artists have joined the effort to seal spatial rifts temporarily..."
"A good New Year for everyone indeed", Lin Zhen murmured appreciatively as they began shopping.
They bought couplets, snacks, household goods, decorations... Inside a clothing store, Fang Huiyi tried on several outfits before being gently ushered out by Lin Zhen and Lin Qi with four new outfits.
"I don't need this many!" she protested as they walked.
Lin Qi shrugged. "No returns. It's just a few hundred thousand anyway."
Seeing she couldn't win, Fang Huiyi finally relented with a smile.
---
As they emerged from the mall, packages in hand, Lin Qi noticed a weapon shop—Huang's Armory. The store blended traditional architecture with futuristic tech displays.
"I need a new long spear", Lin Qi told his parents before entering.
Inside, a young woman in a thick yellow Hanfu greeted him with a bow. "Welcome, sir. Looking for a specific weapon?"
"Yes, a long spear."
Huang Yi led him to the spear section. "We have several models forged from high-grade alloy steel. These can pierce reinforced concrete walls and even Disaster Beast hide."
His eyes landed on a particular spear—jet-black with electric-yellow lightning patterns coursing down its shaft. The silver tip gleamed razor-sharp.
"How much?"
Huang Yi's eyes brightened. "This is Thunderhorn—2.7 meters long, 20 kilograms! Our flagship series. A basic model costs 100,000, but customized orders cost extra."
"I'll take a custom one. Make it 2.85 meters long and 25 kilograms."
"25 kilograms? That's quite heavy!" Huang Yi gasped.
"Not heavy enough", Lin Qi grinned.
He also messaged Jiang Tao, who replied they'd already ordered a weapon yesterday.
---
Back home in Rongshan Residential District, neighbors warmly greeted them.
"Back from shopping, Old Lin?" a local auntie called.
"Look at all these bags! Must've spent a fortune!"
"Times are getting better", another added. "You two look healthier every day."
"All thanks to Xiao Qi. Our little genius is making a name for the whole district."
The praise made Lin Zhen and Fang Huiyi glow with quiet pride.
---
That evening, the family gathered around a festive red-decorated table groaning with dishes and Coca-Cola.
"To another year", Lin Zhen raised his glass. "We've come through hard times together. Our luck is finally turning."
They clinked glasses and drank.
As the Spring Festival Gala began on TV, they tucked into their reunion dinner. Though the performances weren't spectacular, the familiar atmosphere brought warmth to their home.
