Chapter 9: The Reason for Choosing and Dressing
Chapter 9: The Reason for Choosing and Dressing
As Lu Ke and Shengpu finished their noodles and prepared to leave, Sheng Pu hurriedly asked for leave from his father.
"Father, I’m going out for a bit and will be back by dinner."
"Hold on, if you leave, what about the shop? Who will take care of the business?" Sheng Pu’s face turned pale as he stared at the two brothers, Qianchuan, with a worried look.
Although he knew it was a bit late, he still couldn’t bear the thought of his daughter being left alone!
"I’ll take a break for just a day, it won’t be a problem."
"I’ve run this shop for thirty years without a single break!"
"Then hire a helper," Sheng Pu puffed out his cheeks, a bit annoyed. "Father, you can’t expect me to help in the shop forever, can you?"
"What’s the issue?"
Yi Le smiled, indicating that the business was doing well and supporting both of them was no problem.
"Daughter, this is a big issue. Why should I stay here just to keep the shop running?"
"Stop, I won’t be home for dinner either."
Yi Le hesitated, admitting he was being pressured.
Seeing Lu Ke already walking out, Sheng Pu quickly followed, waving his father’s fly-like figure off.
"Lu Ke, wait a moment!"
Lu Ke stopped, looking bewildered.
Their faces were red, and the young girl’s heart raced.
"Lu Ke, I..."
Considering the girl’s thin skin, Lu Ke took the lead with a smile. "I haven’t decided on a birthday gift for my brother yet. Could you help me pick something out on the street?"
Sheng Pu nodded hurriedly, "Of course, I have time."
Lu Ke waved to Qianchuan, "Xiaoguang, go back home first."
Qianchuan, clearly annoyed by the occasional brotherly affection, nodded obediently.
With a flick of his wrist, Lu Ke and Sheng Pu strolled down the street.
"So, what do you think about a gift for Xiaoguang?"
Lu Ke thought for a moment. "How about a blasting charm?"
If it’s okay, he wanted to test his current strength.
Sheng Pu, "Isn’t that a bit dangerous, and only a monk can buy a blasting charm?"
"Is this for a child?"
"Just a joke, I was thinking of a wooden sword, child-sized."
Lu Ke chuckled, brushing the topic aside.
Sheng Pu pondered, "Would a wooden sword be something a child would like?"
"Hah, not just children, even adults find it hard to resist such things. A branch of the wrong shape can still be a good plaything."
"Are boys so naive a species?" she glanced at Lu_ke, who usually seemed quite mature.
Sheng Pu was surprised, suddenly noticing Lu Ke stopping at a clothing store.
"Here."
“Didn’t you say you were going to buy a wooden sword?” Sheng Pu looked puzzled, realizing it was a women’s clothing store. Was Lu Ke thinking of buying a little dress for his brother?
Although Xiaoguang was indeed cute, wasn’t this a bit too much of a taste?
Lu Ke naturally took her hand, winking her eyes. "Taking a girl out to buy children’s toys on a first date, I’m not that brainless."
Feeling the warmth of another person, Sheng Pu blushed, letting Lu Ke pull her into the store.
"Save me, this will be good!"
Sheng Pu blushed, suddenly looking sharp.
"Is this really it?"
"I’ve never seen anyone else around you before."
"My mother gave me some advice. She said that when you're not sure about a girl's preferences, taking her shopping for pretty clothes and sweet treats is always a safe bet."
Sensing Shochu's mood shift, Luk offered a timely explanation. While it wasn't his mother's advice, in his previous life, he had been a top expert in the art of romance.
"Is that so?"
Shochu lowered her head, a bit embarrassed.
The two of them entered the shop, and a sales clerk immediately approached them.
"Miss, is there anything specific you're looking for?"
"We're just browsing."
"Recently, we received a new shipment, and everything is on sale at 30% off. If you buy two items at once, you'll also get a discount." The clerk, undeterred, blocked their path with a smile.
"Heh."
Shochu suddenly laughed, eyeing Luk with a teasing gaze. These quirky yet highly effective sales tactics had all originated from him.
Luk shrugged. It wasn't his fault, and he hadn't complained even when they were copied, though it wasn't his creation to begin with.
Ignoring the chatty clerk, Luk led Shochu straight to the kimono section. After a quick look, he picked up a deep red kimono with gold thread embroidery and maple leaf designs.
"Try it on."
Shochu took the kimono Luk had chosen. It was beautiful, and she liked it even more because it was picked by someone she cared for. However...
"Why did you choose a kimono, Luk?"
It wasn't because kimonos were both attractive to wear and easy to take off, or because they could double as bed sheets, or that the sashes could be used for playful bindings.
It was simply because he thought Shochu would look beautiful in it!
Luk looked at her with innocent eyes, "Summer is coming soon, and I want to attend the summer festival with you."
"I have my own," she said, but still took the kimono to the changing room.
Luk glanced at the price tag: 100,000 ryo.
Tsk, it's so easy to earn money from girls.
Fortunately, he had Kakashi's sponsorship.
Luk silently thanked Kakashi in his heart. Kakashi was indeed his eternal friend.
...
"Ahchoo!"
Kakashi couldn't help but sneeze, drawing a concerned look from the Third Hokage.
"Is something wrong, Kakashi? Did you not get enough rest? You've been working hard lately."
"It's nothing, Third Hokage. It's my duty," Kakashi handed over the documents he was holding.
The Third carefully read through them and fell silent for a moment, "Is this intelligence accurate? The Uchiha clan has started to voice rebellion?"
Since the night of the Nine-Tails attack six years ago, the Uchiha clan had been under heavy suspicion due to the Sharingan in the Nine-Tails' eyes. Their territory was moved to the outskirts of the village.
Since then, fleeting voices of resistance had emerged within the Uchiha clan, and now, the war faction had become a significant force.
"This is based on my observations over the past period and the information gathered by the ninja you sent out," Kakashi didn't offer his personal opinion lightly.
"Thankfully, the situation hasn't reached a point of no return. Please call Shisui over; I need to discuss the next steps with him."
After a long pause, the Third exhaled, "I really don't want to cause unrest in the village unless absolutely necessary."
"Yes, sir."
Kakashi silently withdrew.
...
When Shochu, dressed in the red maple leaf kimono, stood gracefully before Luk, the deep color of the kimono made her appear more mature. At first glance, she looked like an elegant lady from another era.
"You look beautiful."
Luk gave her a thumbs-up.
