Unfamiliar with each other, there wasn't much to discuss before the match. Manjyome saw You Xuan merely as a stepping stone to his advancement, while You Xuan was eager to test the practical combat capabilities of the story's characters.
It was common knowledge in the card player circle that, from a deck-building perspective, most of the characters' decks in the anime were for entertainment purposes. Back in the day, most people probably had childhood memories of naively emulating the deck configurations of anime characters, only to be met with hand traps and card clogs that left them questioning their life choices. Six cards in hand, yet not a single playable one.

However, Manjyome's signature ace cards in the original story were obtained later in the plot. The VWXYZ Quintet was an internal purchase facilitated by Professor Chronos to teach Judai a lesson through Manjyome, while the Armed Dragons were acquired at the Northern School, and he didn't even have the Roid brothers yet.
His strength was probably significantly weaker than in the anime.
"I'll take the first turn."
You Xuan decisively claimed the first turn, randomly determined by the Duel Disk system.
"I'll set one monster and place one face-down card in my backrow."
He drew two cards, placing one face-down on the Duel Disk's front field and inserting the other into the backrow spell/trap slot. The images of the two mysterious dark cards were instantly projected onto the field.

A black vortex opened on the field, and a gorgeous red-haired female warrior holding a sword and a shield appeared from the whirlpool. She crouched, a horizontal card appearing under her feet, with the shield in a defensive position in front of her.

"Let me enlighten you," Manjyome continued, "elite dueling far surpasses your imagination! The equip spell, Big Sword, has another effect! When the equipped monster is used as a Tribute for the Tribute Summon of a Warrior-Type monster, one Tribute can be substituted for two.
Therefore, I tribute my Lady Swordmaster equipped with Big Sword as two Tributes."
A white whirlwind enveloped the swordswoman on the field. Golden light wrapped her and her sword, turning her into specks of light that faded away.
"The dawning light illuminates the path to victory. Cut down all obstacles with the legendary sword!"
Manjyome held a card high, and the summoning storm lifted the hem of his clothes.
"Appear now! Level 8, Legendary Swordmaster!!!"
A masked swordsman clad in black armor stepped out of the storm, a long sword slung across his back.
You Xuan nodded slightly, unsurprised. As expected, duelists in this world tended to be more dramatic with their actions and lines when summoning powerful monsters.
The spectators watching the match couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
"He summoned such a powerful monster on the first turn!" exclaimed a red-haired girl. "That boy seems extraordinary."
"Hahaha, of course!"
Manjyome's lackeys, sitting in the back row, felt proud to hear this. "He's the top student in the elite class of the Duel Academy's middle school division! He's our big brother Manjyome!"
"Big brother Manjyome has already secured a spot in the academy's high school division. Defeating such a minor opponent is a piece of cake for him," added the other lackey.
"The top student of the elite class in the middle school division?"
The two girls were suddenly filled with respect, and their gazes towards Manjyome on the screen turned into admiration for a true big shot.
They had heard that while the middle school division of the Duel Academy wasn't as difficult to enter as the high school division, it still had its fair share of talented duelists. And the elite class was comprised of nothing but teenage prodigies.
To be the top student in that class... he was indeed a big shot.
They suddenly felt a bit of sympathy for his opponent.
The two girls sighed, feeling sorry for the boy named Fujiki You Xuan, who seemed quite handsome. It seemed like he wouldn't make it past this round.
"It's not over yet!"
Manjyome continued his turn.
"Legendary Swordmaster's effect activates! When this card is successfully summoned, equip as many Equip Spell Cards as possible from my Graveyard to this card!"
He paused for a moment, picking up the two cards that popped out from the Graveyard zone of his Duel Disk. With a cold smile, he said,
"Of course, since the Legendary Swordmaster is a Warrior-type monster, I choose to equip these cards to the Swordmaster itself. I equip the 'Big Sword' and the 'Jeweled Sword' Equip Spell Cards from my Graveyard to the 'Legendary Swordmaster'!" (Anime Card)
Both Equip Spell Cards were stacked onto the Swordmaster. The swordsman roared with energy, drawing out the massive sword slung across his back. The sword's length continued to extend, soon becoming a forty-meter-long cleaver.
"'Big Sword' and 'Jeweled Sword' each increase the Swordmaster's ATK by 300 points, for a total increase of 600!"

However, You Xuan, who was in the midst of the duel, was far from being intimidated by this display. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
He was focused on the remaining two cards in Manjyome's hand.

It was a female warrior.
A blonde-haired warrior clad in black combat gear and tall boots, she crouched with her sword drawn in front of her. In the face of the sword's immense size, she appeared fragile and powerless.
