Chapter 9: Obito's Surprise
Chapter 9: Obito's Surprise
Obito, who was in the midst of working on his assignment, couldn't help but look up at the sound of their conversation, and then he froze.
He recognized Itachi.
The Uchiha clan lived together, all residing in the clan's land allotted by Konoha, so members of the same generation knew at least a little of each other.
After all, being from the same family, even if they hadn't met in person, they would have heard about each other from the elders. A genius like Itachi was often mentioned by the elders when speaking of other children, so it was hard not to know of him.
Obito was puzzled as to why Itachi would be here and seemed to be quite familiar with Mu Yue.
"Could Teacher Husel be a distant relative of Itachi's?" A wild guess formed in Obito's mind.
"Teacher, I'm done!"
As these thoughts ran through Obito's mind, Might Guy suddenly shouted loudly beside him.
"So soon?" Obito was bewildered. He hadn't taken that long of a break, yet Guy was already claiming to be finished.
Obito curiously glanced over and saw that Guy had only answered the first three multiple-choice questions, leaving the rest blank.
Obito was at a loss for words, as the entire test only had ten questions, four multiple-choice, and six fill-in-the-blank.
Although he didn't know many of the answers himself, he would usually fill up the paper a bit to make it look neater.
Hearing Guy's proclamation, Mu Yue walked over to check his answers. He had gotten two wrong, with only the first question being correct.
"I'm sorry, teacher, I..." Guy hesitated, not knowing what to say, seeing that out of the three questions he attempted, two were incorrect.
"It's alright. Not knowing is normal. If you knew everything, there would be no need for me to teach," Mu Yue smiled reassuringly.
"Don't be discouraged by your low score. You can look at it from another perspective: you have a lot of room for improvement. After all, it's much easier to go from five points to twenty-five points than from eighty points to a perfect score."
Hearing Mu Yue's words, Guy straightened his posture, feeling a surge of motivation. It was the first time he had received encouragement from someone other than his father.
"You're right, teacher! I have a lot of potential to improve!" Guy's attitude shifted instantly, and he felt a boost in confidence.
From then on, Guy listened intently to Mu Yue's explanations, even for the difficult parts, he tried his best to understand.
Next was Obito's turn. He had filled in six questions but only got two correct answers.
Mu Yue followed the same approach with Obito, offering comfort before explaining the answers.
After finishing the explanations, Mu Yue handed them two more practice tests of the same type.
"More practice?" Obito said, his eyes still drifting towards Itachi, who was now practicing the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!" Itachi performed the hand seals swiftly and spat out a two-meter-tall fireball that flew towards the river.
Seeing the massive fireball, Obito couldn't help but feel admiration. Indeed, Itachi was known as a genius in the clan.
As an Uchiha himself, Obito could also perform the classic Fireball Jutsu.
However, compared to Itachi's, his fireball was more like a tiny sparkler.
"Another genius like Kakashi?"
Might Guy, standing beside him, didn't recognize Itachi, but seeing his young age and the powerful jutsu he displayed, he couldn't help but be amazed.
It reminded Guy of Kakashi, whom he considered his rival.
The Ninja Academy operated on a three-term system. The first term ran from April to July, followed by a summer break. The second term was from September to December, after which they had a winter break. The third term resumed after the winter vacation.
Right after, Itachi began practicing the Grand Fire Dragon Jutsu.
Watching Itachi perform another fire-style ninjutsu, Might Guy was even more astonished. He had been practicing the Three-Style Technique taught at the academy for three years, and he still felt he had barely mastered it.
As he watched Itachi control the fire dragon dancing in the sky, Obito's heart filled with envy. If he could do the same, he was sure he would impress Rin.
"It's evident that your morphing technique has improved significantly since the first time. The fire dragon is faster, and it looks like you practiced a lot yesterday," Mu Yue commented, offering praise.
"It's mostly thanks to your training manual, Teacher Mu Yue," Itachi replied with a smile upon hearing her praise.
"Let me demonstrate it for you again," Mu Yue said.
She walked in front of Itachi, clapped her hands, and swiftly gathered and compressed chakra within her body. In an instant, she opened her mouth and spat out three gigantic fire dragons.
The sight of the three enormous fire dragons, burning ferociously with twisted faces, left Obito dumbfounded.
The second before, he had thought Itachi's Grand Fire Dragon was cool, but his opinion changed after witnessing Mu Yue's version.
The two didn't seem to be casting the same jutsu. The fire dragon Itachi released was like a snake compared to the mud loach released by Mu Yue. Moreover, it was incredibly fast, as if no hand seals had been performed.
The three gigantic fire dragons swiftly flew through the sky, leaving trails of flames in their wake, eventually forming several large characters in the air.
"Stop staring and get back to your test," said Obito, reading the words in the sky, only to find Mu Yue looking at him with an amused smile.
Obito was startled for a moment and quickly explained, "I was just taking a break from the test and looking up at the sky."
He glanced at Might Guy with his peripheral vision and noticed that Guy, who had been staring at the sky with him, had instantly picked up his pen and started working on the test, reacting remarkably fast.
"So, have you looked enough now?" Mu Yue asked.
"Yes, yes, I've seen enough," Obito quickly replied, picking up his pen to continue the test.
After working on the test for a while, Obito still couldn't help but put down his pen and ask, "Teacher Mu Yue, what's your relationship with Itachi?"
"The relationship between a teacher and a student. What else could it be?" Mu Yue glanced at Might Guy's test paper and replied.
"Hehe, I also think it's a master-disciple relationship," Obito said, deciding not to mention his initial unreliable guess.
"Teacher Mu Yue, if I pass the test, can you teach me the jutsu you just used?" Obito asked further.
He had already started imagining the scene of showing off his new jutsu to Nohara Rin, in other words, he was ready to pop the champagne.
"Of course," Mu Yue nodded.
"Really?" Obito asked, his face lighting up with surprise.
"Yes."
"What kind of taijutsu have you mastered, Teacher Mu Yue?" Might Guy asked eagerly.
Although he also thought Mu Yue looked cool when performing the Grand Fire Dragon Jutsu, Might Guy had a clear goal: he focused solely on taijutsu!
Without saying a word, Mu Yue walked up to a large tree. She gathered chakra in her feet, tensed her muscles, and then delivered a swift and powerful spinning kick.
Pata! The tree toppled over, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Do you like this taijutsu?" Mu Yue asked as she retracted her leg and brushed off the dust, smiling at Might Guy.
