Chapter 9: Obito and Itachi
Chapter 9: Obito and Itachi
The Ninja Academy.
It was still early, and the school yard was bustling with activity. A group of boys, short and tall, were huddled together in the center, engaged in a chaotic brawl.
"Katon: Housenka no Jutsu!"
One of the boys performed a series of hand seals and then spat out a small flame toward his opponents, causing them to jump back in surprise. However, the flame quickly fizzled out, prompting laughter from the other boys.
"You call that ninjutsu?!"
"Get him!"
"You little brat, take this!"
About seven or eight boys were entangled in the scuffle, mostly lower-grade students who didn't seem to know any ninjutsu. They were simply brawling, except for two older boys whose combat seemed more skilled and included the use of clone techniques and other ninjutsu.
The onlookers cheered and goaded, adding to the chaos. It was still early, so no jonin teachers had arrived to intervene.
"What's all the fuss about?"
Feng Ye appeared not far from the playground and glanced at the commotion before walking over. He tapped the shoulder of a figure on the outskirts of the crowd.
Kurenai Yuhi jumped at the touch and turned to see Feng Ye, looking relieved. "Good morning, Feng Ye."
"Morning," Feng Ye replied with a casual smile. "Let's head to the classroom."
He had no interest in spectating a bunch of kids fighting.
Kurenai glanced at the center of the brawl and hesitated. "Um..."
"Hmm?" Feng Ye turned to her.
Kurenai sighed. "My cousin, Yuuhi Taiyou, is over there, and he seems to be getting beaten up."
Feng Ye shrugged. "It's normal for boys to fight. You're a girl, so don't get involved. Besides, the jonin teachers are probably watching, so there's no need to worry."
"But..." Kurenai was conflicted. She felt she shouldn't just stand by, but she also had no valid reason to intervene.
Noticing Kurenai's dilemma, Feng Ye rolled his eyes and took a step forward. He performed a simple hand seal and gently pressed his hand against the ground.
"Doton: Moving Earth Technique!"
"Hey! What's going on?!"
Kurenai was initially startled by Feng Ye's action, but she had anticipated it and managed to stay upright as the ground beneath their feet began to shake.
However, the crowd of students was not so lucky. They stumbled and fell as the ground trembled, and the brawling boys were jostled apart by the unexpected movement.
"Feng Ye, you..." Kurenai steadied herself and was about to continue when she saw Feng Ye raise a finger to his lips, gesturing for silence. He smiled and whispered, "There, I think that'll stop the fight. Let's go."
The students, unsure of what had just happened, thought an earthquake had occurred, adding to the confusion. The brawl, however, had definitely come to an end.
Not everyone was caught off guard, though.
In the crowd, a student frowned as he looked in Feng Ye's direction, having sensed that the ground movement was caused by Feng Ye's ninjutsu.
"What a mess..." The boy shook his head.
He appeared slightly younger than Kakashi and wore clothing bearing the symbol of the Uchiha clan. Though unassuming, his name carried weight.
Those who noticed Feng Ye's use of the Earth Style: Moving Earth Technique included not only Itachi and Kurenai but also a girl on the school grounds who had been observing Feng Ye from earlier—Yahiko Nara.
"Feng Ye, you're causing quite a ruckus," Yahiko said as she approached, her eyes narrowed at Feng Ye. "But that was impressive. Earth Style: Moving Earth Technique is a C-rank Earth Release ninjutsu, right?"
Unaware that Yahiko had been there, Feng Ye gestured for her to keep her voice down and replied with a smile, "I picked it up from Kakashi. It's just a little trick."
Itachi Uchiha, who had been watching from a distance, twisted his mouth in disdain and turned to leave. However, he stopped after taking only a few steps.
Not far away, a boy dressed in the Uchiha clan's attire and wearing protective goggles, just like Itachi, stood before Feng Ye, his fist raised as he challenged, "Hey, Feng Ye! Let's settle this once and for all!"
The one challenging Feng Ye was none other than Tobirama Senju.
Today, he had miraculously made it to school on time without any mishaps along the way. But as he stepped onto the school grounds, the first thing he saw was Feng Ye and Yahiko chatting and laughing together, which immediately set his temper ablaze.
Seeing that a fight was already brewing on the school grounds, Tobirama angrily balled his fists and marched over.
"How boring," Feng Ye remarked as he glanced at Tobirama.
He truly had no interest in the pre-blackened Tobirama, who was known for his kind heart and sunny disposition. Feng Ye had no intention of bullying someone so innocent.
"Damn it... Stay right there!!!" Tobirama shouted, unable to contain himself any longer.
However, seeing that Feng Ye didn't rise to the challenge, Tobirama's frustration only grew. He leaped in front of Feng Ye, ready to attack.
Whoosh! Tobirama's rough and unrefined strike came swinging.
Feng Ye sighed and sidestepped Tobirama's attack with ease. He then reached out, gently grabbed Tobirama's shoulder, and with a slight tug, sent him tumbling through the air in an undignified spin before landing in a heap a short distance away.
Witnessing this, Yahiko covered her forehead with her hand, exasperated.
Kurenai was also at a loss for words.
"Is that guy really from the Uchiha clan? The Uchiha name seems a bit ill-fitting..." Kurenai muttered, unable to reconcile the gap between the renowned Uchiha clan and Tobirama's performance.
Just then, a voice spoke up from the side, "I can't ignore that kind of talk."
Itachi Uchiha had quietly approached and now addressed Kurenai with a calm expression.
Although Itachi and Tobirama shared the Uchiha name, their relation was distant, and Itachi didn't particularly care about him. However, he couldn't ignore any remarks about the Uchiha clan itself.
"You are...?" Kurenai asked, recognizing Itachi with a slight start. "Itachi Uchiha?!"
The name Itachi Uchiha carried significant weight within the ninja school. He consistently ranked first in his class across all subjects and had even defeated a genin not long ago! Itachi's skills were undoubtedly at a level where he could graduate early, and many considered him the only genius of their generation who could rival Kakashi in terms of talent.
