Chapter 899: The King of All Kings
Chapter 899: The King of All Kings
David's heart sank at Kalami's words.
Indeed, he shouldn't have made that call. He had already sensed the man's ability when he first fell victim to it.
It was an ability capable of forcing others to accept his ideology. Once influenced, one would inevitably recognize him as their leader.
The soldiers he had brought—including himself—were all ensnared by his ability. The soldiers had resisted briefly before being assimilated, but David was still clinging to his defiance.
Yet Kalami's words chilled him.
If he could truly resist, why had he made that call?
That call—and the words he spoke—weren't his own. Otherwise, he would have revealed the man's ability.
"Can you feel it?" Kalami grinned. "That's right. You've already been affected by my ability. You're starting to accept my philosophy. We are born to rule the lowly masses. Their sole purpose is to serve us, to sacrifice their lives. It is their honor."
"You're not just a king. Your family's lineage is ancient, stretching back eight hundred years. Your noble bloodline is why Dressrosa's people accepted you. But you resist—why, I don't know. It doesn't matter. Your call for reinforcements was the fusion of our minds. I know your kingdom has a fleet stationed there. Such a mighty military force... will now be mine."
Kalami spread his arms, intoxicated. "With this, my rule is secured. The nobility will receive their rightful territories. David, I won't kill you. You'll remain Dressrosa's king. Those lands you conquered will still be yours. But only I shall be the King of All Kings!"
"Release David!!"
Kas's roar echoed as the Navy arrived.
Kalami smiled at the soldiers. "Do you wish to become nobility? Achieving nobility requires merit. Now is your chance—go, stop them."
The surrounding soldiers immediately turned, forming a Human Wall to block the Navy's advance.
"Those are—"
Wilbur's eyes widened. The ones obstructing them were Dressrosa's own soldiers. Now, however, they looked strangely eager. Soldiers who should have been training alongside the Navy now stared at them like prey.
Behind them, the abducted nobles watched with amused expressions.
At the center, David knelt, half-collapsed. Before him, a young man gripped a phantom-image chain.
A sly smile curled the youth's lips.
"B-be careful!"
David gritted his teeth, shouting—but his desperation left an opening. Seizing the moment, Kalami yanked the chain hard. The phantom-image dimmed further.
David's body convulsed as his thoughts spiraled.
The Lord's mission? No—the Lord's mission was wrong. Why destroy these nobles?
The world was always meant to have nobility. The supreme nobles ruled all, while lords—no, Kuro was merely a lapdog of the supreme nobles, barely worthy of the title.
Why should he—David was the king of Dressrosa!
No! Wait!
The Lord's mission is sacred!
I am the Lord's knight, destined to fulfill His will. That is my knight's destiny!
"Too late. Heart Chain!"
As David's mind waged war within, Kalami struck. His outstretched hand unleashed countless chains, piercing through the soldier's Human Wall and embedding into the Navy's chests.
Kas and Wilbur were among those struck, chains impaling their hearts.
"Now, you have no hope left."
Kalami laughed. "I hear you're from G-3. There's a powerful Vice Admiral there—Golden Lion, was it? After conquering you, I'll claim him too. Once G-3 falls into my hands, this entire sea area will kneel to me."
The soldiers parted, revealing Kalami to the Navy.
"Who are you?" Kas growled.
"I am Kalami—a pirate, though I've only just set sail. But my goal is to become your king. The King of All Kings. I shall rule the Grand Line."
Kalami grinned at Kas. "I know you—'Colossal Shield' Kas, 'Big Gun' Wilbur. Famous Navy men. Now, kneel to your new master, and I shall grant you noble status."
"You joke?" Kas frowned. "A mere pirate with no bounty? Are you insulting Justice?"
Kalami chuckled but didn't answer directly. "I've eaten the 'Tamer-Tamer Devil Fruit.' Anyone struck by my ability chains will be gradually influenced, assimilated, and transformed into my guardian. Eventually, you'll be tamed—like these nobles, like these soldiers."
"Calling it 'taming' is offensive!" a noble protested. "We aren't animals!"
Kalami glanced at him. "A king is a shepherd. You are his sheep. What's wrong with that?"
The noble immediately knelt, bowing. "Nothing, mighty King of All Kings, His Majesty Kalami."
"Good." Kalami smiled, satisfied.
His ability didn't reduce people to mindless machines. It altered their thoughts and hearts. While they retained individuality, their path now aligned with his.
Like sheep following a shepherd.
"Now, witness your true king!"
Kalami yanked the chains. Half of the hundreds of chains turned phantom-like, fading from the Navy men. The remaining chains became transparent, persisting on two figures—Kas and Wilbur.
"Oh? Many strong-willed ones here. I appreciate that. The stronger your will, the more powerful my aid when you're tamed."
Kalami tightened the chains. "Now, experience the innate dominion of the King of All Kings—the philosophy of the naturally noble!"
For the G-3 Navy, the moment their chains vanished, their minds shifted.
Why suffer as Navy grunts? The pay was good, but it came at the cost of their lives. What good was Justice when pirates still thrived?
Compared to the endless training and thankless work, shouldn't they earn the status ordinary men could never attain?
"Yes. You will have status. What do you gain fighting pirates? Nothing. Join my kingdom. I will grant you land and the civilians to rule. You will gain shepherd's authority. Become my shepherds and lead the flocks."
Perhaps becoming nobility would ease their burdens. Nobles protected civilians without endless training, yet still held meaning. Justice seemed hollow now.
"Stop your nonsense!!"
Suddenly, a roar erupted from the crowd.
