Chapter 896: The Headmaster's Alliance
Chapter 896: The Headmaster's Alliance
"The Winner Bug?"
The two professors exchanged glances, both seeing bewilderment in each other's eyes.
Kouronosu: Do you know this card?
Napoleon: I have no idea. What happened to the basic knowledge you were just talking about, Professor?
It wasn't their fault that the two professors lacked knowledge, but the Winner Bug deck was generally rare and uncommon. Although a few Winner Bug cards might appear in the environment, it was unusual to see a complete deck, as only single cards with decent quality were occasionally used by duelists.
Not to mention the "Ultimate Xylophage Zero," which was the rarest of all rare cards. Yuuugen had never seen it before, except for the one he obtained from a friend in New Domino City.
However, regardless, starting with a 25-Times Fusion was still intimidating. Although neither of them recognized the Ultimate Xylophage Zero, it was obvious that something fused from twenty-five monsters wouldn't be an easy opponent.
"Well, but in Chaos Mode, no one can attack on the first turn," Yuuugen said, "So I'll Set two cards and end my turn."
Kouronosu and Napoleon looked at each other and nodded.
"Then it's my turn again, None!"
Kouronosu declared.
"Draw!"
Napoleon reminded him from the side, "Pay attention, Professor Kouronosu! Today isn't the day for infighting. Only by working together do we have a way out, aru!"
"Shut up, I know!" Kouronosu snapped.
Kouronosu glanced at the spell card in Yuuugen's back row.
Regardless, the monster summoned by Future Fusion wouldn't appear until two turns later. And in Chaos Mode, their two turns would pass before Yuuugen's turn.
In other words, by the time two turns had passed, Yuuugen's Standby Phase would be a distant memory.
For now, there was no need to worry.
The priority was to focus on breaking through the opponent's defenses and strive to end the battle before the terrifying 25-Times Fusion monster summoned by Future Fusion could make its appearance.
"Battle, None!" Kouronosu shouted, "Ancient Mechanical Golem, attack 'Zexer'!"
Yuuugen: "Activate my Set card."
"Wooden plank, None!" Kouronosu exclaimed, "When Ancient Mechanical Golem attacks, the opponent cannot activate any Spell or Trap Cards!"
"Of course, I know that," Yuuugen smiled.
"But Teacher, I didn't say I would activate a Trap Card against Ancient Mechanical Golem's attack. I'm activating a Trap during the Battle Phase, triggered by your declaration of 'Battle.'"
Kouronosu: "!"
Indeed, although Ancient Mechanical Golem couldn't be targeted by Trap Cards during its attack, this restriction only applied from the declaration of attack until the end of the damage calculation step. However, from his declaration of entering the Battle Phase until the attack was made, there were no constraints on free-timing Trap Cards.
"Therefore, I activate my Set card, Trap Card 'W Nebula Meteorite'!"
As Yuuugen's Trap Card flipped, everyone felt as if dark clouds suddenly gathered in the clear sky. The pitch-black clouds seemed to oppress the land, with thunder and lightning swirling within.
Then, in the vortex, a massive, dark object emerged. Like a swift messenger of doom, it trailed a long tail flame, instantly breaking through the dark clouds.
The moment the meteorite struck the ground, it seemed to explode, creating a terrifying shockwave that sent layers of air currents, dust, and debris high into the sky, forming an exaggerated mushroom cloud.
"My goodness!" Kouronosu exclaimed, "Dinosaur extinction, None!"
"Hahaha, it's not that dramatic," Yuuugen laughed, "The impact of the W Nebula Meteorite's landing will force all face-down Defense Position monsters on the field to flip face-up in Defense Position.
And now, there's only one face-down monster on our field."
He pointed at the face-down Winner Bug on the field.
"So, flip 'Aganamamax' face-up."
[Aganamamax, DEF 1800]
"The effect of Aganamamax: When this card is flipped face-up, select one monster your opponent controls and return it to their hand."
Yuuugen smiled.
"Return 'Ancient Mechanical Golem' to your hand.
Even if it's the Ancient Mechanical Golem, it's powerless against a Trap Card activated before the Battle Phase."
Indeed, even the mighty Ancient Gears were helpless against a Trap Card with such a flexible activation timing. The golem let out a low, unwilling roar, and its body transformed into a golden light, shooting back into Kouronosu's hand.
"What's wrong with you, Kouronosu!" Napoleon expressed his dissatisfaction with his teammate's blunder, "Weren't you always boasting about Ancient Gears being the bane of Trap Cards?"
Kouronosu's face turned red, and he angrily said, "Shut up!"
He clenched his teeth and muttered under his breath.
"Damn Napoleon, always with his backhanded compliments."
But at least he hadn't performed a Normal Summon this turn yet.
Without further ado, he summoned 'Antique Gear Soldier' in Defense Position. The turn ended.
An ancient mechanical soldier made from old parts appeared on the field, its left hand a metallic five-fingered structure, and its right hand modified into a machine gun. It crouched in a defensive stance.
[Antique Gear Soldier, DEF 1300]
At least he avoided passing his turn. After all, in this duel, there was no such thing as teammates, and they couldn't share the field.
Moreover, Kouronosu and Napoleon had been competing covertly for so long that he knew he couldn't fully trust his teammate. Although this duel seemed to be their joint interview, their interests appeared aligned, but Kouronosu wasn't naive enough to believe in Napoleon.
What if one of them lost in the duel, and the other won? What would be the outcome of the assessment? Would only the one with remaining Life Points be able to pass?
If he exhausted his resources to help Napoleon win, wouldn't he be making a wedding dress for the other? Kouronosu would rather they both be unemployed than help Napoleon succeed while he failed. He believed Napoleon thought the same.
So, although they seemed like teammates, they each had their own ideas.
"Then, the End Phase." Yuuugen said, "The follow-up effect of W Nebula Meteorite."
Both coaches felt a tightness in their chests.
There was a follow-up effect?
"W Nebula Meteorite: During the End Phase, change all face-up LIGHT Insect-Type monsters you control to face-down Defense Position, and draw the same number of cards from your Deck."
Yuuugen pointed at the two Winner Bugs on his field.
"Change 'Aganamamax' and 'Zexer' to face-down Defense Position," Yuuugen said, "and I draw two cards from my Deck."
Kouronosu and Napoleon exchanged glances, and they both saw concern in each other's eyes.
Aganamamax, when flipped face-up, could return any monster on the field to the hand, making it a tricky monster with a rather sinister effect. Being covered again felt like setting a time bomb that could explode at any moment.
But it didn't end there.
"Furthermore, after that, I can Special Summon a Level 7 or higher LIGHT Insect-Type monster from my Deck."
Yuuugen calmly revealed a card in his hand.
"Special Summon this card from my Deck—
—'Victory Winner Bug,' descend!"
