Chapter 894: Elixir of Eternal Youth
Chapter 894: Elixir of Eternal Youth
"You've been doing a great job, Pierce." Ivan turned his head and said with evident approval.
Initially, appointing Pierce as the Minister of Magic was just a temporary measure, but he hadn't expected Pierce to do so well. Most importantly, Pierce had a clear sense of his own limitations, unlike Fudge, who often failed to recognize the situation.
"I'm just following your orders..." Pierce said in a flattering tone, showing no hint of taking credit. His attitude was as humble as a household servant, rather than the Minister of Magic of Britain.
In reality, the situation wasn't much different. Pierce knew that his title of Minister of Magic was largely nominal. The main fighting forces of Britain were under the control of Dawgert and the Werewolf Fen.
These people didn't listen to him at all, and any order he issued had to be approved by Ivan Hals before it could be enforced.
To put it bluntly, he was just a figurehead and a rubber stamp. The Ministry of Magic would function just as well without him.
As the nominal leader of the British Wizarding World, living in such a humiliating manner, Pierce naturally had his complaints, but after witnessing Ivan Hals's ruthless methods, he wisely discarded any unrealistic thoughts.
The previous Minister of Magic, Fudge, had been buried just six months ago, and Pierce had no intention of becoming the next deceased Minister of Magic.
Ivan was very pleased with Pierce's submissive attitude, but he understood that constant pressure could lead to rebellious feelings. It was important to occasionally offer a carrot to boost his subordinates' enthusiasm.
"What reward would you like?" Ivan asked.
Pierce was taken aback for a moment, but seeing that Ivan wasn't joking, he began to think carefully.
Refusing outright was out of the question; it would offend Ivan. However, given his current position and status, there didn't seem to be anything he particularly needed.
A large sum of Galleons? That would be nice, but from what he knew, Ivan Hals was a notorious miser, so this suggestion was out of the question.
Reclaiming some of the powers of the Minister of Magic?
Pierce thought about it but decided it wasn't worth risking his life.
Seeing that Pierce was taking too long to answer, Ivan grew impatient and took out a potion, saying, "How about this?"
"Lord Hals, what is this?" Pierce took the potion bottle and curiously looked down, immediately drawn to the emerald green liquid inside.
"Try it and see", Ivan said calmly, offering no further explanation.
Pierce hesitated for a moment, then unscrewed the cap and drank the potion in front of Ivan. He wasn't particularly worried about it being harmful, as Ivan could easily deal with him without such complications.
The taste of the potion was surprisingly pleasant, and what surprised Pierce even more was the warm sensation that rose from his stomach and spread throughout his body.
It felt as if he were soaking in warm water, and the fatigue from many sleepless nights vanished, leaving him so comfortable that he couldn't help but moan in relief.
What on earth is this potion?
Could it be a potent energy elixir?
Pierce was extremely curious. After drinking this bottle of potion, he felt as though he had instantly gained boundless energy, as if he had returned to his prime.
"Congratulations, Minister of Magic Pierce. You've just become five years younger", Ivan said, staring intently at Pierce's face for a moment before patting his shoulder and smiling.
Five years younger?
Pierce looked somewhat confused, then his body trembled slightly. Suddenly, as if he had just realized something, he waved his wand to conjure a round mirror and examined his face, his voice trembling. "This... This is the Elixir of Eternal Youth?"
Ivan nodded, confirming Pierce's guess.
With the Philosopher's Stone in his possession and the knowledge passed down from Nicolas Flamel, Ivan naturally had the ability to create the legendary Elixir of Eternal Youth.
Although he was far from needing the potion to extend his lifespan, this elixir was still an excellent bargaining chip...
Those with power and influence might not care much about external possessions, but there was one thing that countless rulers throughout history had always craved: the secret to longevity!
Pierce was his first test subject, and the results were surprisingly good.
Perhaps because it was his first time taking an age-reversing potion, Pierce looked radiant, his appearance having visibly rejuvenated by several years...
"This is truly incredible!" Unaware that he had been used as a guinea pig, Pierce looked at his reflection in the mirror, his excitement barely contained.
He was in his early fifties, and while he was still considered middle-aged among the Wizard community, where many lived well past a century, his vigor and spirit had long since declined. Years of living in luxury had also left him with a host of minor ailments that greatly affected his quality of life. Now, suddenly feeling several years younger, how could he not be thrilled?
Pierce's gaze towards Ivan became fervent. If his previous deference had been rooted in genuine fear, it now carried a tinge of eager desire, for no one ever complained about living longer!
Ivan observed every move Pierce made, and he was well aware of his thoughts. However, he deliberately refrained from mentioning any more details about the Elixir of Eternal Youth. Instead, he changed the subject. "Have you found my residence in London?"
Pierce quickly nodded, suppressing his various thoughts, and led Ivan through several streets until they stopped at a secluded location.
"Here it is!" Pierce pointed to a seemingly empty patch of grass and then waved his wand to dispel the concealment magic.
The next moment, a grand estate appeared before Ivan's eyes.
The entrance was a silver gate wide enough to accommodate four cars side by side, flanked by two knight statues. The long, green hedges on either side stretched for hundreds of meters, and through the gaps in the fence, Ivan could even see an entire independent garden inside.
"How big is this place?" Ivan looked around, whistling in amazement.
"Not very big, just a few dozen acres or so, but this estate is one of the legacies left behind by the Pureblood Families. It... comes at no cost!" Pierce, well aware of Ivan's needs, chuckled.
"Excellent, this is perfect!" Ivan patted his trunk in satisfaction and walked through the gate.
