Chapter 890: Why Can All of You Use Haki?!
Chapter 890: Why Can All of You Use Haki?!
Deep within the forest, Explosion's entire body was embedded in a treasure chest, his head peeking out as he gripped a pistol with both hands. He aimed it at the group before him and shouted:
"Get out! This place isn't for you to come!"
The flintlock pistol still smoked, but the bullets had been caught between the fingers of a muscular man.
Crunch!
The man crushed the bullets to dust, his fury boiling as he charged forward, "You old fool! You dared fire first!"
Suddenly, a hand blocked his path. "Montblanc, hold back."
"William?!" Montblanc turned, bewildered.
William shook his head, signaling patience as he faced the chest. "Are you human? We mean no harm—we're just here to gather supplies."
"Stop joking! You're pirates, right? I saw your Pirate Ship!" the treasure chest man roared. "Forget this 'supplies' nonsense—you're after this island's precious beasts! I won't let you take them!"
Beside him, strange creatures gathered: a beast with a serpentine body and rabbit's head, a fox with a chicken's face, and a rotund, reindeer-like creature resembling Chopper walking upright. None were sights one would easily forget—creatures that would fetch a fortune if sold.
But William had no interest in them. Right now, he just wanted supplies and a swift escape.
"Just a few supplies", William said calmly. "If we truly wanted trouble, do you think one man could stand against so many of us?"
Treasure Chest Uncle instinctively took a step back, though his grip on the gun tightened. "Fine! Just leave! I'll give you food if you go!"
William shook his head. "A generous offer, but refusing your demands would undermine my reputation in the Grand Line. Let me tell you this: when your enemies outnumber and outmatch you, all you can do is accept it."
He lowered his hand.
Montblanc's face twisted into a malevolent grin. He lunged forward, his leg swinging in a brutal kick toward the chest.
"Let me liberate you from that box!"
Treasure Chest Uncle's eyes widened in horror, his tiny legs scrambling backward in a futile retreat.
The chest wasn't indestructible—Beast Island teemed with powerful creatures. But he'd lived inside this box for over twenty years. His body had long adapted. Shattering the chest would mean certain death.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
As the kick closed in, gunshots rang out.
Montblanc scowled, his foot curling inward mid-swing. He twisted sideways, releasing a spiral of air pressure.
Clatter! Crash!
The air pressure shattered with a metallic sound, bullets scattering to the ground.
"Bullet? So there's someone else?" Montblanc turned toward the jungle, his words cut short when his eyes widened.
From the forest emerged a squad of white-clad figures.
The Navy!
Sazil strode forward, glancing at Montblanc before focusing on William's group. "Who might you be?"
"William!" Montblanc barked.
William clicked his tongue. "Officer, we're just passing merchants gathering supplies. This is all a misunderstanding."
"Cut the crap."
Sazil chuckled, gesturing to William's armed crew. "Do your merchants normally carry weapons? And those pirate tattoos—don't insult me."
The dim light had obscured the pirate flag, but Sazil dismissed it anyway. East Blue pirates averaged a 3 million Beri bounty—how dangerous could they be?
"Hmph, didn't expect to stumble upon pirates. Beats the boredom", Sazil sneered, baring his teeth. "Let me, Kuro, show you the strength of the Headquarters Navy!"
At those words, William's four subordinates froze, staring at Sazil.
Kuro?
Elmira stiffened.
Montblanc narrowed his eyes.
Sverre crouched low, muscles coiled.
William stared intently at Sazil, seeking residual traces of his past self. The darkness hid details, and fifteen years had passed since they last met. The child he remembered could now be unrecognizable under that hooded cloak.
"Still..." William murmured.
"Sverre!" he barked.
The sniper sprang into action, his leap astonishingly high. Reaching the apex, he scanned the area before landing silently—a whisper of movement, not a sound.
He nodded. "Golden Lion's Gigantic Warships are glowing over there. It's confirmed!"
William's body trembled.
Memories surged: a two-year-old child wielding a dagger, the infamous massacre of the Dire Wolf Pirates—and how that same fate had befallen his own crew. Now the Golden Lion had come here, and their paths had collided by sheer chance!
Escape.
That was William's first thought. But...
He glanced at his men and the moored ships. Against the Golden Lion's power, even if they fled, they'd lose their hard-earned crew and ships. This was his first voyage—a devastating defeat would crush morale.
And that assumed they escaped at all.
"If I fail, I fail on my own terms!" William snarled. "Let's gamble! Kuro, this is the moment I conquer my fears. I'll defeat you—my heart's demon!"
"Are you out of your mind?" Sazil scoffed, amused by their panic. Headquarters Navy versus East Blue pirates? Easy prey.
But now the pirate captain spouted nonsense about defeating fear.
Thud!
Before Sazil could ponder further, a deafening explosion shattered the air. Pain lanced across his face as instinct kicked in—a hair-raising twist of his body.
A fist came hurtling toward his dodged position, its iron gauntlet radiating familiar Haki.
"Bǎ Surface Scan!" he began, but the warning died on his lips.
A searing pain lanced through his back as his body swayed like a willow in the wind, evading the dagger strike from Sverre, who'd leaped impossibly high moments earlier.
Another blow came—he couldn't dodge all of them!
"Iron Body!!"
Sazil roared, Haki flaring across his face. The moment Iron Body activated, the iron fist crashed into his face.
Boom!
The punch sent his head snapping back, a shockwave rippling outward.
Whoosh!
A spin spun him sideways, dodging Sverre's follow-up. His hands blurred into motion.
"Nailsfist Technique—Spiral Explosive Dispersion!"
With a whirl of his arms, spiraling air currents erupted around him, forming a dome of energy. The force tore through the earth, carving a circular crater.
Montblanc and Sverre retreated to William's side. Elmira raised her pistol, aiming at the dissipating energy dome.
Bang!
The instant the dome vanished, Elmira fired.
The bullet streaked forward—only to graze Sazil's cheek, leaving a thin, crimson line.
"Incredible Observation Haki!" Elmira muttered. "No doubt—it's really him."
"What the hell?!" Sazil bellowed from the crater, blood dripping from his nose. His eyes burned with rage. "Why can all of you use Haki?! This is East Blue—don't screw with me!"
Three attacks—fist, dagger, bullet—all laced with Haki!
What in the world is going on here?!
