Chapter 89: The Perfect Material
Chapter 89: The Perfect Material
Spider-shaped monsters?
The farmlands south of the town have been attacked!
Upon hearing this, Lin Sai's expression changed drastically.
He never expected that the spiders chasing him and An Rui would climb up the Climbing Celestial Vine and come after them.
They had actually come all the way to the border town, and even attacked the town itself.
He asked a few quick questions and didn't bother continuing his conversation with Torch. He immediately headed south towards the town.
Lin Sai's first priority was, of course, Finn's cottage.
It was right next to the southern edge of the town, and it was likely to be damaged during the attack.
Especially those glass greenhouses!
If they were truly damaged, with the current state of the Hidden Frontier, Lin Sai couldn't find any way to repair them.
It didn't take long for Lin Sai to reach the southern part of the town.
Finn's plant cottage remained intact, still standing at the edge of the town, and it hadn't been damaged in the previous attack.
"Thankfully, it's fine..."
Lin Sai heaved a sigh of relief.
But as he turned his gaze towards the distant farmlands, this relief instantly vanished without a trace.
The attack by the Corrupted Venom Spiders had occurred some time ago.
After several days of hard work by the farmers, the broken crops, spider webs, and remnants of the battle had been gathered, and they had not yet been uniformly burned.
And right on this initially cleaned-up farmland.
One could still see the muddy fields pockmarked with holes, almost unrecognizable, and the completely shapeless earthen walls, as well as the scattered broken grains on the ground.
It looked as if the farmlands had been raided.
A rooster, free-ranging in the fields, wandered back and forth, searching for something to peck at.
And this scene was one of the few remaining lively sights in the farmlands.
"..."
"Lin Sai, you're finally back!"
Lin Sai fell silent, looking at the scene before him.
Just then, a call came from behind him. Lin Sai turned and saw Joel opening the back door of the glass greenhouse, coming to his side:
"You've been gone for over ten days. Is everything okay?"
"I'm fine." Lin Sai shook his head, his complex gaze returning to the farmlands before him, "But the people in town don't seem to be doing well."
Joel acknowledged with a nod:
"This winter will undoubtedly be a challenging time."
"However, everyone had previously harvested some grains, and with their individual reserves, getting through this winter shouldn't be a problem. By next year, everything will be better."
After sharing his thoughts, he inquired about Lin Sai's condition.
Only then did Joel begin to satisfy his curiosity, asking Lin Sai about his experiences in the Black Mountain World:
"Lin Sai, this time you went down with An Rui, and you must have truly reached the Black Mountain World, right?"
"What did you encounter in the Black Mountain, and were there any astonishing discoveries?"
"The situation is dire." Lin Sai shook his head, as if bearing bad news, "The Dragon Beasts in the Black Mountain World are attempting to advance. Even the spiders attacking the farmlands are connected to that thing."
"..."
Joel remained silent, clenching his fists.
He didn't want to discuss the dilapidated farm in front of them in detail, mainly to avoid dampening Lin Sai's mood upon his return.
But for those who have truly experienced the attack, how could they possibly have any fondness for those monsters? Now, learning that the mastermind behind it all is the Dragon Beast above the Black Mountain, their emotions can't help but stir...
Joel's initially suppressed emotions began to brew...
Lin Sai noticed this.
He wanted to uplift his friend's mood with some good news.
So, she quickly changed the subject and pulled the young craftsman towards the glass greenhouse:
"Come on, Joel, I'll show you something!"
"This time, I collected quite a few interesting materials during my trip to Black Mountain. I need your help."
Mentioning the materials from Black Mountain, Joel's passion as a craftsman was ignited by Lin Sai, and he immediately followed her back into the house.
The two walked through the greenhouse and returned to the front hall.
Lin Sai immediately began displaying the items she had collected on her journey.
Bat fangs, rhinoceros horns, fox fur, treant vines, ice hound claws, ice hound teeth, ice hound fur...
Joel was speechless as he watched the display.
Every time Lin Sai reached behind her and lifted her hand, a new material appeared before him.
When all these items were laid out before Joel, the young craftsman picked up one from the left, then another from the right without putting the first one down, almost unable to take his eyes off them.
"Lin Sai, where did you get all these things?"
"They... they are in such perfect condition!"
Joel's admiration was genuine.
In reality, materials often suffer some damage during the collection process.
But these materials were all collected by Lin Sai using her skills, and their condition far exceeded those collected by ordinary people. It was like the difference between a three-star and a one-star material in a game.
Upon closer inspection, Joel noticed that whether it was the leather or the claws, they seemed to have grown out of nowhere, with no signs of wear from their previous owners' normal lives!
"It's all thanks to my skills," Lin Sai smiled.
She had wanted to show him the roughly crafted antimony spear she had made, but then she remembered the three perfect antimony arrows Joel had given her, of which only one spear remained.
That was too embarrassing to show.
"Joel, I want to commission you to make some equipment for me using these materials, like a better portable bag, or a bow, dagger, or any other weapon I can use."
"As for payment, you can have the remaining materials."
"You rascal!" Joel immediately rolled his eyes when he heard the word 'payment.'
But he genuinely liked these materials from the monsters, and his talent as a craftsman could sense the essence contained within them.
Joel couldn't refuse and nodded, accepting Lin Sai's proposal:
"Alright, I'll make sure to give you something you'll be satisfied with. Just wait for my good news!"
With such high-quality and hard-to-obtain materials in front of him, Joel couldn't wait.
As soon as he finished speaking, he used the fox fur to wrap the materials and headed out.
Just before reaching the door, he remembered to ask Lin Sai:
"Oh, by the way, when do you need these items?"
"This time, there's no rush. You can work at your own pace."
After seeing Joel off, Lin Sai returned to the house.
She noticed a novel that had been pulled out of the bookshelf, clearly the one Joel had been reading earlier.
She put it back in place and turned to check on the plants in the greenhouse.
At that moment, she saw the silhouette of the female hunter standing outside the back door of the greenhouse.
Clank, clank—
The woman gently knocked on the back door of the greenhouse.
Lin Sai opened the door, ready to welcome her in, but Dan just stood at the door and extended an invitation:
"Lin Sai, the hunters in town are planning a major hunt in a few days. Do you want to come along?"
【I have to go back to work tomorrow, but I wish everyone a happy holiday.】
