Chapter 89: Magic Art Training

The sky was dark and the street lamps were lit.

Vivian was walking down a street and heading back to the compound where the members of the Temple of Priests reside. Her Brown Cloak fluttered and the gold necklace with a vertically stretched sun was displayed proudly around her neck. And from time to time she could notice people, especially men, throwing a glance at her. Some would even just straight out stare at her. But after days of living inside this new body of hers, she was more or less used to it already and paid it no mind.

Up ahead, she saw two scary-looking men in their mid-20s standing in the corner and looking at her with lustful eyes. They weren't armed or anything. They were only wearing normal clothes and had normal builds.

Vivian scoffed mentally.

I don’t have time for this…

I just want to rush back to the Training Grounds and level up my Magic Arts…

She didn’t bother to change lanes and passed the two men.

"Honored Priestess Miss, can you spare us a moment? We want to tell you something important," one of the men said.

She pretended not to hear them and continued walking. The other man's face twisted into a dark expression and reached out his hand to grab her arm.

"Hey! I'm talking to you --"

Pah!

Thud!

Vivian slowed down her pace and turned her head a bit to see what just happened.

She saw one of the men sprawled on the street while his companion was staring at a very handsome man in his early 20s with blonde hair, blue eyes and a blinding perfect smile. He was dressed in a beautiful set of leather armor with intricate designs and had two beautiful long daggers on his waist. And lastly, he had a Gold I Rank pendant around his neck.

"Don't you people have better things to do other than harass women?" the handsome man said with a serious and murderous expression on his face.

"YOU!" the remaining man said and pulled out a knife.

He thrust the knife, but the handsome man easily caught the man's wrist and twisted it.

"AHH!"

Clang.

The man cried out in pain as he dropped the knife.

“If you don’t change your ways, you’re going to get into serious trouble one day!” the handsome man said as he held the man’s wrist for a couple of more seconds before pushing him away. "Don’t ever show your faces here ever again."

The man gritted his teeth and glared at the handsome man before pulling his companion away and leaving.

Seeing the two men running away with their tails between their legs, the handsome man turned his head back to Vivian and a shocked expression flashed across his face.

Vivian was already a few meters away from him and walking as if nothing happened.

He immediately rushed to Vivian's side.

"Hi, I--"

"Leave me alone," Vivian said coldly without even looking at him.

He was startled for a moment by her response, causing him to stop. But when he regained back his composure, he rushed in front of Vivian and stood there, blocking her path.

"Isn't it a bit rude to treat a fellow Adventurer who helped you?"

"What do you want? If you're here to invite me to your party, I'm not interested."

"Who said --"

Whoosh!

Vivian moved so fast that the next thing the handsome man knew her hand was pointed on his throat like a knife.

A single bead of sweat appeared on the handsome man's forehead and then trickled down his face. His senses were also screaming at him.

"LEAVE. ME. ALONE."

The handsome man tried to speak but no words came out of his mouth. In the end, he simply swallowed.

Vivian pulled her hand away and resumed walking.

Some time later…

The Training Grounds.

She arrived at the compound about an hour ago.

When she first arrived, she immediately headed to the cafeteria to eat her second free meal of the day. After that, she rested for a few minutes before coming here.

She reached the building she was looking for and entered. And just like last time, it was old man Samuel was sitting behind the counter.

"Good evening, Brother Samuel. I'm here to train."

"Good evening too. Sister Vivian, right?"

"Yes."

He took out a key underneath the counter and placed it on top.

The key was engraved with the number 8 on it.

"I'll be checking on you after 48 hours."

"Thanks, but you don't have to. I'll only be here a few hours. I've got a test to take tomorrow morning."

Samuel nodded.

Vivian grabbed the key and hurriedly went over to the training room.

Okay…

I’m just going to spend 4-5 hours inside…

And after that, I’m going to bed…

When she entered her room, she closed the door, sat down on the floor and removed her left glove.

The room that the members of the Temple of Priests use for training their Magic Arts was quite small, just enough to fit 2 double-size beds. It was made out of cement and wasn't painted. There also wasn't anything inside the room except for a symbol of a vertically stretched-out sun plastered on the wall and a small window on top of it.

"Let's try this."

She activated a spell.

[Poison Strike].

A green water-like aura enveloped her right hand.

She pressed it on her left palm.

Psssh!

The green water-like aura exploded into a green mist. The attack was similar to the sunflower monster's orange gas.

Cough!

Cough!

Vivian immediately felt like she was sick -- her body felt heavy and weak.

She immediately activated another spell.

[Heal].

A faint yellow light enveloped her entire body.

Vivian's eyes became wide.

Despite the [Heal] skill, her body still felt heavy and weak.

She cast another skill.

[Heal].

A faint yellow light enveloped her entire body once again. However, the same weakening feeling that her body felt persisted.

So [Heal] doesn't cure poison…

I already had this suspicion…

But I still wanted to try it just in case…

I wonder how long will this poison last…

Some time later…

The heavy and weak feeling that Vivian's body felt earlier finally vanished.

I see…

So it takes around 30 seconds before the poison vanishes…

[Poison Strike] was a spell that doesn't cause any damage at all, but it puts the target in a weakened state that lasts for about 30 seconds. However, the weakening effect solely depends on the INT between the owner of the spell and the target. The higher the INT of the owner compared to the target, the weaker the target gets that it could even leave them completely immobile. But of course, the higher the INT of the target compared to the owner of the skill, the weaker the weakening effect would be to the point where it won't even have any effect at all.

I have to try it again…

A ray of sunlight seeped in through the single small window of the room and it beamed at the center of the training room.

Vivian raised her head and the ray of sunlight shone on her face, blinding her eyes.

"Shit… It's already morning…"

Last night, her plan was to spend 4-5 hours inside the training room. After that, she will go to bed so that she can take the final exam for her first Holy Mission. However, she kept telling herself one last time before leaving. And the next thing she knew, it was already morning.

She looked down and stared at her hands.

"Just a little more…!"

A few minutes later…

Psssh!

She gritted her teeth.

"Just a little bit more!"

She waited once again until her mana reached 20 points.

A couple of minutes later…

Psssh!

"Almost there...!"

Once again, she waited.

A couple of minutes later…

Psssh!

"One more...!"

A couple of minutes later…
