Chapter 89: First Use of the Imperius Curse (Second Update)
Chapter 89: First Use of the Imperius Curse (Second Update)
"Hell's Kitchen, here I come!"
At midnight, Jerry rode his Nimbus 2000, which he had taken out of his Box, and donned a brand-new wizard robe. He soared into the sky from an abandoned factory, heading straight for the notorious Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan.
The wizard robe he was wearing was not an ordinary one. It was a custom-made robe from Diagon Alley, enhanced with alchemy to provide a shield charm for protection.
With this wizard robe, the threat posed by ordinary firearms to him would be greatly reduced.
This was why he now felt confident enough to venture into Hell's Kitchen to earn Little Red Stars.
This time, he had brought back a large number of magic books, filled with knowledge he needed to learn—new spells, new potions, alchemy, and more.
All of this required a substantial amount of Little Red Stars to support.
But his Panel now showed zero Little Red Stars.
So, he had to set his sights on Hell's Kitchen, a place where crime rates were high, and even the police were hesitant to intervene.
Thanks to his frequent patrols, Queens now saw very few crimes, mostly petty thefts, which yielded almost no Little Red Stars.
Hell's Kitchen, on the other hand, was a different story. Murders, robberies, rapes, human trafficking, and drug dealing occurred there daily, making it a haven for crime.
And, consequently, a haven for earning Little Red Stars.
However, the criminals in Hell's Kitchen didn't operate alone; they were part of a well-organized criminal network, a vast black empire.
Jerry's interference would inevitably affect their interests and provoke a fierce backlash.
Why hadn't he tackled this lucrative opportunity before?
He was worried that he might be ambushed by a group of people armed with heavy weapons, or even face a rocket launcher.
But now, with the shield charm-enhanced wizard robe and the many new spells he had learned, his strength had significantly increased compared to when he dealt with the Abomination.
He had also purchased numerous potions for detoxification, healing, and other functions, greatly enhancing his safety.
It was time to make a bold move!
Riding the Nimbus 2000 at high speed, Jerry quickly crossed Queens, flew over the East River, and entered Manhattan.
Manhattan and Queens were separated only by the East River. At the speed of the Nimbus 2000, it took him less than half an hour to find Hell's Kitchen.
"Truly a paradise of crime!"
Hovering in the air, he surveyed the vast expanse of Hell's Kitchen, his expression complex as he let out a sigh.
Drawing his wand, he swooped down on his flying broom to the nearest crime scene. He cast a few Petrify spells, immobilizing three criminals who were assaulting a girl in an alley, who was loudly pleading for help.
Then, with a wave of his wand, he collected all the money from the three criminals.
"Quickly Heal!"
Using a Healing Charm, he saved a passerby who had been shot, then immobilized the criminal who had fired the shot.
Jerry's presence continued to appear at various crime scenes throughout Hell's Kitchen, and his once empty Little Red Stars began to accumulate.
He did encounter a few instances of being shot at, but his new wizard robe easily deflected the bullets.
In fact, once Jerry activated his Superman Mode, as long as the attackers weren't too far away or in large numbers, it was difficult for a few individuals to hit him with a gun.
At 2:30 AM, Jerry glanced at the nearly two thousand Little Red Stars he had earned and left Hell's Kitchen with satisfaction.
However, just as he was about to cross the East River to return to Queens, he spotted what seemed to be an illegal transaction taking place in a container area at the East River dock.
Silently landing on top of a large crane at the dock, Jerry peered down carefully.
The two groups below clearly didn't look like upstanding citizens. After all, who conducts a transaction at a dock at two or three in the morning?
The leaders of both groups were huddled together, whispering, while their subordinates, each holding guns, stood guard around them, preventing any outsiders from getting too close.
Jerry roughly counted and found that the two groups combined numbered nearly forty people, all of whom were armed, with a few even wielding rifles.
"Capturing an illegal transaction, I wonder if there are any Little Red Stars to be had?"
Rubbing his chin, Jerry hesitated for a moment.
Forty or so armed criminals who looked like they wouldn't hesitate to use their weapons were not to be taken lightly. Without the promise of Little Red Stars, he wasn't keen on taking the risk.
However, this hesitation lasted only a few seconds before it vanished completely.
He saw the leaders of both groups open their boxes, and one of them was filled to the brim with dollar bills.
While he had accumulated a fair amount of money from his crime-fighting activities, it was at most a few tens of thousands of dollars. Most robbers didn't carry much cash, and as a superhero, he couldn't exactly demand much in return for saving people.
But that entire suitcase of dollar bills below him probably contained a small fortune, at least a few hundred thousand dollars.
Since the transaction was clearly illegal, not taking the money would be a waste. Besides, such an act might also earn him Little Red Stars, especially if the other box contained white powder that could harm many people if it got out.
Having made his decision, Jerry didn't rush down immediately.
With so many armed people, charging in headfirst would be suicide. The Shield Charm could block bullets, but it wasn't infallible, and the Wizard Robe could protect his body but not his head.
Moreover, there was no need to take such risks. In this situation, a stealthy approach would be the safest and most efficient.
Carefully increasing his altitude, he circled around to the back of a container, stashed the Nimbus 2000 in his small Box, and cautiously approached with his Wand.
"Soul Out of Body."
A muscular, fierce-looking Caucasian Brawler was holding a gun and vigilantly scanning the area. Suddenly, he saw a flash of light before his eyes.
Then, his mind went blank, and a strong sense of happiness began to fill his heart.
"Go, slowly walk over and quietly shoot the guy who's dealing with your boss!"
A gentle and beautiful voice appeared in his mind. Although he felt it was wrong, the overwhelming happiness made him follow the voice's instructions.
He slowly left his post, a foolish smile on his face, and walked toward the center of the transaction.
"Mara, what's wrong? Did you spot something?"
"What are you doing?"
The Caucasian Brawler's leader, seeing his subordinate approach, frowned, thinking something had gone wrong.
However, the Brawler ignored him and, with a blissful expression, raised his gun and fired at the leader on the other side.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The other leader, who had never expected his longtime collaborator to betray him, was shot dead on the spot.
The scene froze for a second, then the dead leader's men, enraged, aimed their guns at the Caucasian Brawler and his leader, sending both to their deaths with a burst of gunfire.
With that, the situation descended into chaos.
