Chapter 886: Pierce: I Will Never Tolerate Any Lawlessness in Britain!
Chapter 886: Pierce: I Will Never Tolerate Any Lawlessness in Britain!
Just as Cornell was thinking this, a sudden sense of unease washed over him.
"Have you really ever seen a genius, Director Cornell...? Don't let your shallow understanding measure our strength..." Ivan said casually, his eyes turning into orange-yellow slits as a terrifying Dragon Aura began to spread through the relatively spacious classroom.
Cornell stared into those eyes, feeling as if Death had clamped its hand around his throat, slowly draining the air from his lungs.
In a daze, Ivan Hals seemed to grow taller and more imposing, while he felt as small as an ant beneath the ground...
"If the Headmaster has any doubts about my words, he is welcome to try me out himself..." Ivan took a step forward, the slight sound of his shoes on the floor like a drumbeat that tightened Cornell's already taut nerves.
Cornell swallowed hard, his entire body trembling, the wand in his hand shaking slightly.
Until today, he could never have believed that a young male wizard would ever intimidate him to the point where even movement was difficult.
The young wizard before him even reminded him of Grindelwald, who had attacked the North America Magical Congress building a few days ago. That terrifying man had forcibly taken the Vice President right in front of everyone, and the sixty Aurors responsible for guarding the building had been overwhelmed like so many chickens and dogs.
Cornell would never forget the look Grindelwald gave him as he left, a look of disdain, as if he were looking at a stray dog by the roadside...
Apart from Cornell, the three Aurors who had followed him in were also on high alert, though they were not Ivan's primary targets and thus retained some ability to move under the pressure.
However, this was clearly not a good thing. As Ivan took another step forward, one of the Aurors could no longer bear it and drew his wand, and his action quickly set off a chain reaction, prompting the other two Aurors to instinctively draw their wands from their waists...
Don't move... Cornell wanted to shout, but it was too late. The moment the pressure reached its peak, the last thread of reason snapped.
"Expelliarmus!" The Auror in the front row was the first to act, bellowing as if to vent his frustration.
Almost simultaneously, the two Aurors behind him launched their attacks, two more beams of light flying towards Ivan.
Finished... Cornell's mind flashed with this thought, and then a bright light filled his vision, followed by a deafening explosion.
The classroom shook violently, the tables and chairs splintering apart, and the surging shockwave sent Cornell flying to the ground.
The only thing to be thankful for was that the oppressive aura that had pinned him down vanished in that moment. Cornell pulled himself up from the ground, his limbs stiff, and quickly looked around.
Ivan Hals still stood a short distance away, looking calm and composed, while the three Enforcement Aurors from the International Confederation of Wizards lay on the ground, each in worse condition than the last.
The Auror who had cast the Disarming Charm had his wand broken in two, while the other two were one petrified and the other knocked unconscious by the aftershock of the Explosion Charm, covered in blood.
"You dare... You dare to openly attack Aurors!" Cornell gritted his teeth, his voice full of rage, but under Ivan's cold gaze, it grew weaker and weaker, almost inaudible.
"Don't slander me, Director Cornell. It was these Aurors who openly attacked an innocent student at Hogwarts!" Ivan raised an eyebrow, clearly displeased, and then waved his wand, continuing.
"Furthermore, my wand is right here. If the International Confederation of Wizards has any doubts, they can conduct a test. I only cast a few defensive spells. The Explosion Charm, Petrificus Totalus, and Disarming Charm were the handiwork of these Auror Masters..."
He had merely reflected their spells back at them.
Cornell nearly fainted from Ivan's shameless audacity, but he was wary of the other man's effortless defeat of three Aurors. Desperate, Cornell turned to Pierce, hoping the Minister of Magic would help him apply pressure.
However, Pierce seemed to have suddenly gone blind, remaining silent throughout the conflict and not even glancing in Cornell's direction.
Seeing that Cornell was still stubborn, Ivan sneered and turned to Pierce. "Minister Pierce, does the International Confederation of Wizards have the right to attack civilians in Britain?"
"Of course not!" Pierce, who had been as still as a statue, suddenly came to life, adopting a righteous tone. "I will not allow anyone to wreak havoc in the British Wizarding World! Not even the Head of Enforcement from the North American Magical Congress!"
"Director Cornell, please have yourself and your subordinates join me at the Ministry of Magic for a review... Attacking a minor Young Wizard with potentially lethal spells like the Explosion Charm is a serious offense!" Pierce said sternly.
He clapped his hands, and a few seconds later, Delius burst in with a dozen Beaters, surrounding the members of the International Confederation of Wizards.
Aren't we supposed to be on the same side? You didn't say that before... Cornell was bewildered, still trying to make sense of the situation, when the Beaters seized his wand and pinned him to the ground.
Cornell almost suspected that this Young Wizard was Pierce's illegitimate son... No, it should be the other way around.
Only this could explain why the Minister of Magic was willing to face pressure from North America and the International Confederation of Wizards to twist the facts.
He struggled to resist but couldn't break free from Delius and the others. Thinking of Pierce's cold indifference, Cornell's heart sank. If he were taken away, his fate would be grim...
Even if North America managed to get him out, the few days of delay would be enough to make him suffer.
Realizing this, Cornell hurriedly said, "Wait, Master Hals, this is probably just a... misunderstanding!"
"A misunderstanding?" Ivan waved his hand, signaling Delius to wait, and asked curiously.
"You said earlier that if anyone doubted your claims, they could test them personally... So my subordinates were just trying to verify your strength by attacking you..." Cornell explained, feeling quite aggrieved.
"I see..." Ivan seemed to recall his earlier words and looked at Cornell with a serious expression. "But remember, next time, you should observe Duel etiquette before engaging in a friendly spar... Not everyone is as reasonable as I am!"
