Chapter 884: International Wizards' Federation
Chapter 884: International Wizards' Federation
"This is what happens when you follow the wrong person!" Ivan said with a cold sneer.
Peter Pettigrew, fearing Voldemort’s power, willingly betrayed his friends and became his lackey. However, he forgot that being a Death Eater was not an easy task!
Voldemort was ruthless not only to his enemies but also to his own followers. To him, Death Eaters were merely lowly servants who could be discarded at any moment.
"You’re right, Peter Pettigrew got what he deserved…" Pierce hurriedly chimed in, then hesitated as if remembering something. "By the way, Lord Hals, the International Wizards' Federation wants to meet you…"
"Meet me?" Ivan raised an eyebrow, puzzled. Why would the International Wizards' Federation suddenly seek him out?
Could it be related to Grindelwald?
Even if that were the case, they should have approached Pierce, the Acting Minister of the Ministry of Magic, directly.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, he had instructed Pierce not to mention anything about him when reporting to the International Wizards' Federation.
"I suspect they might have uncovered some evidence that could be detrimental to you…" Pierce explained cautiously.
"Is that so?" Ivan glanced at Pierce, wondering if the Acting Minister had grown tired of living and was secretly trying to trip him up. Otherwise, how could they have traced back to him, a young wizard who hadn’t even graduated yet?
But after some thought, Ivan dismissed this possibility. Pierce wasn’t foolish enough to plot against him for power, and Legilimency confirmed this.
"Do you know what they might have found?" Ivan asked after a moment's consideration.
"They suspect you had something to do with Grindelwald’s escape!" Pierce said succinctly.
"Why would they think that?" Ivan couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. The International Wizards' Federation seemed to be acting on baseless suspicions. What benefit would he gain from letting Grindelwald escape?
"I don’t know…" Pierce said sheepishly.
In truth, he, like the International Wizards' Federation, suspected that Ivan was involved in Grindelwald’s escape.
After all, the Dark Lord had been imprisoned for over fifty years, and it was only after Ivan visited Nurmengard that Grindelwald suddenly fled. It was hard for Pierce to believe there was no connection!
Perhaps Ivan was plotting some grand conspiracy in the shadows, one that led to Grindelwald’s release…
Ivan’s Legilimency easily read Pierce’s thoughts, and he felt both exasperated and angry.
Was this really how people saw him?
Ivan stared at Pierce for a long moment but ultimately swallowed his questions. He didn’t want to reveal his Legilimency abilities, as no one would want their thoughts to be transparent to others.
Considering this, Ivan let Pierce off and instead asked about the International Wizards' Federation. He knew little about such international organizations and was unclear why they had jurisdiction in Britain.
Under Ivan’s questioning, Pierce didn’t dare to withhold any information and promptly provided an explanation.
The International Wizards' Federation was born out of the need for unity among wizarding governments during the tumultuous Witch Hunts of the Middle Ages. These hunts had caused significant distress to wizards, forcing them to set aside their differences and collaborate to find a solution.
The initial purpose of its establishment was to provide a platform for Wizards from various countries to exchange ideas and collaborate, in order to counter the threats posed by Muggles. For example, the Famous International Wizards' Confederation Secrecy Act was signed after numerous debates and arguments.
"It somewhat resembles the Muggles' United Nations..." Ivan thought to himself, rubbing his chin. The international situation in the Wizarding world was indeed somewhat similar to that of the Muggles.
Fifty years ago, Grindelwald's war was akin to World War I and II, severely damaging the European Wizarding World and allowing the North American Wizards to rise to prominence.
Due to its distance from the European continent, Britain was initially in a better position than other countries. However, shortly after Grindelwald's defeat, a local Voldemort emerged, gathering a group of Death Eaters to persecute non-Pureblood Wizards in Britain.
If one were to be more conspiracy-minded, Ivan might even suspect that Voldemort was a spy cultivated by the North American Magical Congress...
With the European Wizarding World in a weakened state, the International Wizards' Federation was naturally dominated by North America.
"Lord Hals, should I firmly decline their request?" Pierce, noticing Ivan's lack of enthusiasm for the international Wizarding organization, offered.
"No! Since they are so eager to meet me, let's see what they want!" Ivan said with a cold smile.
Britain was his territory, and Ivan was curious to see what these people could stir up...
"I understand. I'll have someone inform the Wizarding Council and arrange a meeting time", Pierce nodded and said.
After bidding farewell to Pierce, Ivan returned to the Gryffindor Common Room alone.
On his way back, Ivan was surprised to find that the Common Room had been transformed. The walls were adorned with colorful lights, and red lion banners floated in mid-air. A large horizontal banner hung in the center, prominently displaying the name of every graduating student, clearly indicating that a graduation party was being held.
"Only you are missing, Ivan!" George and Fred enthusiastically pulled Ivan into the Common Room, and the young Wizards of Gryffindor gathered around, bombarding him with questions about what reward Minister Pierce had given him.
"They must have given you a large sum of Galleons, right? You are the first Wizard in Hogwarts history to graduate early!" Ron said expectantly.
"That's too cliché!" Seamus chimed in. "I bet the Ministry of Magic will write you into the Chronicles of Britain!"
Ivan was overwhelmed by their enthusiasm and couldn't bring himself to tell the truth. He eventually managed to dodge the questions by saying that the Ministry of Magic planned to award him a Golden Medal, but it would take some time to arrive.
The noise of the graduation party continued throughout the night.
George and Fred had prepared a large number of Bangfires and various peculiar Magic Toys, turning the Common Room into a chaotic mess. They even convinced the House-elves to move the young Wizards' dinner to the Common Room...
In this joyful atmosphere, Ivan temporarily set aside his concerns about the Wizarding Council and spent the entire evening fooling around with them...
Unfortunately, his good mood didn't last long, as the International Wizards' Federation arrived much sooner than Ivan had anticipated.
The next evening, Pierce brought four unfamiliar Wizards into Hogwarts.
