Chapter 884: East Blue Does Not Allow Such Powerful Individuals
Chapter 884: East Blue Does Not Allow Such Powerful Individuals
As William's crew made preparations, a Navy Warship was slowly approaching their direction.
At the helm stood a Commander—a Branch Commander from a Marine outpost near Sweets Island. Unlike the Headquarters, in the Four Seas, any Branch Navy unit must defer to Headquarters personnel as though they were three ranks superior.
"Commander, we're nearly at Sweets Island", a Marine reported, saluting the Commander standing on the deck.
The Commander nodded. "This mission was entrusted by Vice Admiral Golden Lion. We must complete it satisfactorily."
"I don't quite understand why a Vice Admiral would take interest in a pirate with no bounty", the younger Marine muttered, puzzled.
The Commander shook his head. "I don't question his motives. As Golden Lion's homeland, East Blue must honor his requests. He is East Blue's pride, after all."
And none of us dare refuse.
Though any naval base, whether a Branch or Headquarters unit, technically held significant authority—and could legally decline Golden Lion's orders—no one would risk it. Golden Lion was a legend. Take his subordinate, Commodore 'Colossal Shield' Kas, for instance. Once a lowly Branch Sergeant in East Blue, he earned his reputation by following Golden Lion's path. After rising through the ranks in Headquarters, he returned to serve under Golden Lion, now a Vice Admiral.
Every Marine dreamed of transferring to Headquarters. If they impressed Golden Lion, who knew? This mission might be their ticket out of the backwaters.
As the Warship neared Sweets Island, a lookout shouted from the crow's nest, "Commander! There's a fleet ahead—multiple ships!"
The Commander raised his telescope. Through the lens, he spotted numerous vessels departing from Sweets Island's harbor. Their sails bore the infamous Jolly Roger—the very symbol they'd been ordered to hunt.
"That Skull Jolly Roger..." He pulled out a wanted poster. The design matched exactly. "Bring me the Amplifying Transponder Snail!"
"Aye, sir!" The young Marine rushed below deck and returned with the device.
Meanwhile, on the pirate ship, William and his crew had just finished calming the civilians in the harbor.
"Chief! Chief!" A panicked pirate burst into the captain's quarters, pointing frantically outside. "A Navy Warship!"
Inside the cabin, besides William, stood three key crew members.
Elmira, the Navigator, sniper, and gunman, wore a scholarly expression beneath his calm demeanor.
Montblanc, the chef and combat leader, flexed his Iron Fists—his muscular frame radiating raw power. A master of fist techniques.
Swell, the Intelligence Officer, was lean and agile, a dagger strapped to his waist.
These three were the backbone of the 'Sam Pirate Crew,' William's most trusted allies.
"Navy?" Montblanc grinned, tightening his fists. "Perfect. Let's make them our stepping stone to fame!"
Swell smirked, fingers brushing his weapon.
Elmira hesitated, glancing at William.
"It seems my precautions weren't wasted", William said, rising to retrieve his rapier from beside the bed. "Let them see the true strength of the Sam Pirate Crew."
"Aye, Captain!" the trio saluted.
...
"What?!" Kuro snapped, glaring at Klah back at G-3 Fortress. "Say that again!"
Klah sighed. "The Navy operation to locate Sam William failed."
Kuro's brow furrowed. "Are you certain? Did you relay my orders accurately? I wanted them to negotiate—strip him of the 'pirate' title. He has no bounty."
"We repeated your words verbatim", Klah insisted. "The Commander intended to comply, but William attacked first. No casualties, though. According to the report, the moment they hailed the pirates, a white mist appeared. A single bullet shattered their mast, disabling the ship. When the fog cleared, the pirate fleet had vanished."
"A bullet? Not a cannonball?" Kuro blinked.
"A standard lead bullet", Klah adjusted his glasses. "The Commander described it as Haki-enhanced. The sudden mist suggests a Devil Fruit user."
East Blue natives treated Devil Fruits as myths, but those from the Grand Line knew better—such phenomena were always linked to Devil Fruit powers.
"Also", Klah added, "the civilians at Sweets Island refused to disclose William's whereabouts. They were openly hostile toward us."
Leaning back in his chair, Kuro bit his cigar, exhaling a plume of smoke. "A Devil Fruit user with Haki? Someone with prestige and ten years of experience at sea—not some naïve brat playing pirate. How did East Blue produce this... anomaly?"
Klah grimaced but stayed silent. You yourself hail from East Blue, Kuro. And you spent ten years there without gaining any recognition.
"Have CP investigate thoroughly. Something's off. Also, any recent activity at G-3?"
"Only routine patrols."
"Understood. Prepare the ship. You and Lida are coming with me."
"Eh? Kuro, you're returning to East Blue?" Lida asked, turning from the sofa.
Kuro tapped the table. "This situation demands personal attention. East Blue lacks the strength to handle such threats. Alert the Navy forces guarding the other three routes near Reverse Mountain. Watch for anyone flying that Jolly Roger. And inform the Seven Warlords to mobilize."
In East Blue, Devil Fruit users were rare enough—but Haki?
Where the hell did this bastard come from?!
"Listen well", Kuro growled. "Destroy them wherever they appear. Bury them in the dirt if they're on land. Sink them if they're at sea. East Blue does not allow such powerful individuals to exist!"
His hometown. The place he'd bled to keep safe for years. Now, a new threat emerged—and from his own damned homeland?
How had he missed this before?
