Chapter 881: Peace Is Within Reach!
Chapter 881: Peace Is Within Reach!
A man strode in wearing a jacket styled after Flower Country’s traditional wear, a hat perched atop his head.
“Luo Wei?”
David exclaimed, stunned. “How did you get here? Weren’t you supposed to be touring the Navigational Route on the cruise?”
“There was an incident, so I came ahead.”
Luo Wei continued, “Besides, because of this incident, I saw a drifting, unmanned ship on my way here. It was from the World Economic News Bureau, with a fairly intact industry inside. It should be Moer Gangs’ ship, but I didn’t see any Moer Gangs crew members or their employees. They must’ve abandoned the ship, though I don’t know why. But that’s not important—what matters is: you’ve got it now.”
“Luo Wei!”
The three shot up from their seats. David’s voice trembled with excitement. “I don’t even know how to thank you.”
If you want to thank me, just drop that plan to help Kuro rebel! It’s making my scalp crawl!
But Luo Wei dared not say that aloud—he feared Kuro would silence him permanently.
And besides, that kind of ideal…
Luo Wei shook his head. “Now, about another matter—your tourism industry has hit a snag.”
The trio froze.
“What about the cruise ship?” Kas asked.
Kuro’s former Gran Tesoro had been upgraded into a luxury cruise vessel, retaining Tezoro’s grand scale. It offered full-service dining, entertainment, and the ability to dock at islands along the Navigational Route, allowing tourists to explore local cultures.
This launch was a debut event, and David naturally invited kings they’d befriended at the World Meeting.
Kas oversaw safety along the entire Navigational Route.
If something went wrong… it would be his responsibility.
“It’s not the cruise ship,” Luo Wei clarified. “The cruise is still en route. Its security is too tight for any pirates to dare attack. But your islands—they’ve been raided.”
“What?!” David gasped. “What happened to the islands?!”
Kas and Wilbur instinctively clenched their fists, faces dark with rage. Whether it was the cruise or the islands, Kuro Mr. had entrusted both to them. If the islands had been attacked, it meant they’d failed in their duty!
“Don’t panic yet,” Luo Wei said calmly. “The islands themselves are fine. The people on them are safe too. But your nobility—there was an issue there. The pirates took them captive.”
“Taken the nobility?!”
David frowned. “Ransom demand?”
“No news of any kind,” Luo Wei shook his head.
“Wait a second—”
David suddenly narrowed his eyes at Luo Wei. “Why are you calling this good news?”
“Who knows?” Luo Wei shrugged. “I’m just here for the inauguration. I’m passing this intelligence as a bonus.”
He turned and waved dismissively. “Carry on without me. Give me a room, and I’ll wander Dressrosa for a bit.”
As Luo Wei exited, the three men exchanged troubled glances.
What did he know?
Why did he know it?
Did we leak something ourselves?
No—the man was the brother of Lidamiss, the lord’s trusted aide. Perhaps he’d known all along…
“Unforgivable! This is a blatant insult to us!”
Kas shot to his feet, storming toward the door. “Kuro Mr. entrusted this task to us, and we failed. It’s our fault! Once we capture that pirate and rescue everyone, I’ll personally apologize to Kuro Mr.!”
Wait!
Smack!
David’s fist slammed into his palm as realization sparked in his eyes.
“Kas, hold on!” he called.
Kas turned. “What is it?”
“This isn’t your failure—it’s mine. Let me handle it. The lord brought you here for more than just guarding the Navigational Route.”
“But it was our task!” Kas argued. “Ignoring this would violate Justice!”
As expected…
David’s conviction deepened.
“No, let me take this. I’m the King. The pirates took my nobility captive. Kas, you have a bigger mission. If needed, I’ll ask Wilbur for help.”
Kas hesitated, but finally nodded. “If you insist…”
David’s resolve was clear, so Kas respected it.
“Kas, your mission is more important. The lord brought you here not just to guard the Navigational Route, but to uphold the lord’s peace and Justice. The cruise arrives soon—if you’re uneasy, go escort it.”
David’s words singled out Kas, leaving Wilbur with a glint of understanding in his eyes.
Kas nodded and departed. Once he’d gone, Wilbur folded his arms. “What’s your plan, David?”
David’s expression hardened. “This isn’t for Kas. His sense of Justice is too rigid. He’d never stand by while pirates slaughtered innocents—even if those ‘innocents’ were nobles who’d done nothing shameful.”
“But Luo Wei’s message wasn’t ordinary. This isn’t a case for the Navy. Wilbur, I need you to restrain Kas—stop him from chasing the pirates.”
David leaned forward. “Luo Wei is Lidamiss’s brother. Lidamiss is the lord’s most trusted aide. If he came directly to me with news of the nobility being taken, instead of the Navy or anyone else, that sends a message—a directive for me to act.”
“Luo Wei isn’t Navy. His coming here means the lord is telling me this isn’t a Navy matter. Only I, as King, can do what must be done.”
David’s eyes turned icy. “To use the pirates as a blade—to purge those nobles! That’s why Luo Wei called it both good and bad. Good because I can cleanse my troublesome nobility. Bad because if mishandled, Dressrosa could descend into chaos. But this… is necessary. I must act.”
“The lord’s intentions are clear,” David continued, tightening his fist. “I won’t squander this chance! Once this is done, Dressrosa will complete the first step of the lord’s vision!”
“Indeed,” Wilbur murmured. “This isn’t for Kas.”
He nodded firmly. “I’ll keep Kas in check. What else can I do?”
“Weapons. Heavy weapons. I won’t let the pirates release a single noble. Nobles and pirates alike—I’ll slaughter them all! As a knight, I’ll stain my hands with blood for my king’s vision, because…”
David’s gaze sharpened. “Peace is within reach!”
