Chapter 881: Mr. Hals Can Handle Such a Minor Matter
Chapter 881: Mr. Hals Can Handle Such a Minor Matter
The Phoenix circled in the air a few times before slowly landing on the table in front of the examiners.
Pierce, Mcgonagall, Flitwick, and the others leaned in to get a closer look at this wondrous creation. Macnair couldn’t resist reaching out to touch it, but she accidentally got burned by the flames surrounding the Phoenix.
Only then did everyone realize that the flames were real, not some kind of illusion.
"Truly incredible!" Professor Mcgonagall murmured to herself. As a Transfiguration master, she was more astonished than anyone else present.
However, since Ivan didn’t want to elaborate, she didn’t press the matter, keeping her curiosity to herself.
Seeing the examiners gathered around the Phoenix he had transfigured, taking a long time to announce the result, Ivan finally spoke up. "Have I passed, Professors?"
"Of course! This is the best Transfiguration I’ve ever seen!" Macnair said excitedly.
She had been the head of the Examination Authority for over a century and had seen countless geniuses.
The one that left the deepest impression on her was Albus Dumbledore’s N.E.W.T. exams at the end of the previous century. At the time, his mastery of Transfiguration made even her, as an examiner, feel inadequate.
Macnair thought that after that experience, she would never be surprised by a candidate’s outstanding performance again. But it seemed that genius had no limits!
Professor Mcgonagall also praised him. "Hals, your proficiency in Transfiguration might even surpass mine. I doubt even Headmaster Albus could have done better."
Mcgonagall’s praise was astonishingly high. Dumbledore was widely recognized as the strongest wizard in the British Wizarding World, and even after his death, British wizards still held him in high regard.
And it was well-known that Dumbledore’s specialty was Transfiguration spells.
After the two of them shared their thoughts, Pierce quickly took over, lavishly praising Ivan’s outstanding performance and even suggesting that the current exam evaluation system couldn’t adequately reflect his Transfiguration skills, which far exceeded those of his peers.
"Hogwarts should add a higher rating above Outstanding", Richard Goshawk added with a smile.
If other students achieving an "Outstanding" grade in Transfiguration was due to their capabilities, then Ivan receiving this grade was simply because Outstanding was the highest they could give.
"Since there are no further questions, let’s move on to the next test. The next subject is Defense Against the Dark Arts..." Flitwick reminded them softly. They had four exams to conduct this morning, and time was limited.
Pierce nodded, shifting his gaze from the Phoenix to Ivan. "For the second exam, we will conduct a practical exercise. Is that acceptable, Hals... Master?"
"Of course, Minister!" Ivan replied nonchalantly.
Pierce immediately signaled to the Aurors responsible for maintaining order in the Great Hall. Three of them quickly stepped out from the crowd and formed a half-circle in front of Ivan.
"They are elite Beaters from the Ministry of Magic. They will launch attacks on you, and your task is to defend or counter their spells", Pierce explained.
"Wait a moment, Minister Pierce. Isn't this a bit much?" Professor Mcgonagall looked at the three Beaters with a frown. "Hals's spellcasting is quite impressive, but he's still a child. We can't expect a Young Wizard who hasn't even graduated to handle three battle-hardened Beaters."
Pierce's expression turned peculiar at Mcgonagall's words. He couldn't help but wonder if she had a different understanding of the word "child."
A person who had the audacity to storm the Ministry of Magic and kill the Minister of Magic, and who had brutally beaten a Dark Lord in Knockturn Alley, could hardly be called a child—Pierce usually referred to such individuals as monsters!
However, he didn't dare voice this thought in front of everyone. Instead, he explained, "I believe Mr. Hals can handle this minor situation. Last year, he faced off against Dragons and Mermaids, which was far more dangerous than this."
Professor Mcgonagall was taken aback. She was well aware of Ivan's formidable abilities, having seen him rescue Harry from Voldemort alongside Sirius Black. Yet, his age always made her subconsciously overlook this fact.
"What do you think, Hals?" After some hesitation, Professor Mcgonagall finally left the decision to Ivan.
"I trust Minister Pierce's judgment", Ivan shrugged, responding casually.
With no objections from Professor Mcgonagall, Pierce immediately waved his hand and turned to the Beaters. "Thompson, you can begin!"
To prevent any mistakes due to fear, Pierce had personally selected these three Beaters for the exam. They were unaware that the Young Wizard before them was the mastermind behind the Ministry of Magic, so they wouldn't show any weakness that could give away their true intentions.
As expected, Thompson and his team, upon receiving the command, gripped their wands and focused intently on Ivan.
They had just witnessed Ivan's incredible Transfiguration skills and were in no mood to underestimate him. Moreover, with so many people watching, a defeat due to carelessness would be a severe blow to their pride.
In contrast, Ivan appeared relaxed, even casually slipping his wand into his pocket.
This almost insulting gesture infuriated Thompson and his team. Without hesitation, they launched their attack, not caring about the unfair advantage of three against one.
"Langlock!"
"Oppugno!"
"Expelliarmus!"
Three spell beams flashed through the air. As elite Beaters, Thompson and his team worked in perfect harmony, even without prior coordination.
The Tongue-Tying Curse was meant to prevent Ivan from casting, Multi-Shot to block any potential escape routes, and the Disarming Charm was the final blow!
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, it seemed that Ivan had indeed been affected by the Tongue-Tying Curse. Faced with the blinding red light and a barrage of sharp rocks, he didn't utter a single spell. Instead, he raised his index finger and lightly tapped it in front of him.
Ivan's seemingly sluggish reaction made Thompson feel a twinge of regret. Since the Young Wizard before them wasn't a true enemy, being defeated by a well-coordinated attack and embarrassing themselves in public would certainly offend this promising Young Wizard.
