Chapter 88: Visiting Tsunade
Chapter 88: Visiting Tsunade
The tent assigned to Feng Ye was located in the back area of the camp.
"That boy... is he Flagwood Fengye? Is he already an upper ninja?"
Some ninjas were surprised to see Fengye settle into a separate small tent and started a conversation.
This was the front line of the Battle of the Wind Country, with a large number of ninjas present. The camp was laid out very differently from the one on the Grass Country's side. Even a middle ninja was not qualified to live in a separate tent.
Many people were still impressed by Fengye, the former genius of Konoha. However, they remembered that Fengye had only recently passed the middle ninja exam. How could he have become an upper ninja so quickly? If he wasn't an upper ninja, he shouldn't be qualified to live in this separate small tent.
"That's probably unlikely."
The ninja beside him also looked surprised and said, "Maybe he's a special upper ninja..."
This explanation was barely acceptable.
Although both upper ninjas and special upper ninjas enjoyed almost the same treatment, there was a clear distinction between the two. Upper ninjas were well-rounded individuals with no significant defects in any aspect and possessed a certain degree of leadership skill, enabling them to lead and command large numbers of ninjas.
In contrast, special upper ninjas were typically appointed from middle ninjas with unique abilities, such as expertise in sensing or interrogation.
As a genius, Fengye might possess unique abilities like code-breaking or scouting, so it would be reasonable for him to be quickly promoted to a special upper ninja during the war.
"Hmm."
The ninja who had spoken first nodded.
He was only a middle ninja himself. If Fengye were an upper ninja, he would be his superior and could potentially become the captain of his next mission, meaning he would have to follow Fengye's orders.
He found this situation hard to accept, as anyone would struggle to convince or question the judgment of such a young upper ninja captain. However, if Fengye were a special upper ninja, it wouldn't concern him.
Even if they fought together, they would definitely belong to different departments, only cooperating without interfering in each other's business.
...
Inside the tent.
After a quick tidy-up, Fengye rested. He slept until late in the afternoon and then rubbed his eyes before leaving the tent to fetch some water.
There were temporary wells dug in several areas of the camp, and Fengye had seen a rough map of the camp layout, so he headed towards the nearest well.
"Hey, Fengye?!"
As Fengye was drawing water, a surprised voice called out to him.
Fengye was somewhat familiar with this voice but couldn't quite place it. Turning to look, he exclaimed in mild surprise, "It's you, Shizune! What are you doing here?"
Shizune was supposed to be studying with Tsunade, so her presence at this camp suggested that Tsunade was also around. This realization surprised Fengye.
"I came here with Lady Tsunade to practice medical ninjutsu," Shizune said as she ran over with a water jug in hand.
Fengye drew a bucket of water, filled his flask, and then poured some into Shizune's flask as well. He turned his head and said, "Is Lady Tsunade here too? I thought she wasn't in a condition to..."
"She can't fight, but she can still guide medical ninjas to a certain extent, although she can't directly touch blood and can only give advice based on symptoms," Shizune explained, then paused, looking surprised. "How do you know about Lady Tsunade's condition?"
The fact that Tsunade suffered from hemophobia was not exactly a secret, but not many people knew about it. Only her closest disciples and a handful of elite upper ninjas were aware of it, so it was unusual for Fengye to know.
"My father mentioned Lady Tsunade before," Fengye replied.
Tsunade's hemophobia developed towards the end of the Second Great Shinobi World War. Itachi and Orochimaru would undoubtedly know about it, and blaming it on White Fang was the most convenient option.
Because of Fengye, Shizune had heard some things about White Fang from Tsunade, and upon hearing Fengye's reply, she showed a look of realization and sighed, "Lady Tsunade's condition is still worrying. She can't treat severely injured patients herself, which is a shame because with her medical skills, she could heal them faster.
In his past life, Feng Ye had specialized in psychological treatment and had even studied hypnotism. These were essentially forms of mental guidance, completely different from the genjutsu of this world.
He had successfully treated Kakashi with this method before, and it had shown noticeable effects.
Perhaps it could help Tsunade as well.
Shizune gave Feng Ye a surprised look but nodded and said, "Lady Tsunade is resting in her tent. I'm just getting her some water; follow me."
"Wait a moment," Feng Ye said, holding the flask. In a flash, he disappeared, only to reappear by Shizune's side a few seconds later, the now-empty flask returned to his tent.
Weaving through the sea of tents, Shizune led Feng Ye to a larger tent.
Entering, Shizune announced, "Lady Tsunade, I've brought the water."
"Put it over there," Tsunade said wearily.
Due to her hemophobia, Tsunade faced significant limitations in her medical practice. What would typically be an easy treatment for her now required a considerable amount of energy.
Her presence on this battlefield was partly due to Hiruzen's persistent invitations, and partly because she wanted to guide Shizune's medical skills.
Medical ninjutsu was a skill that couldn't be mastered through study alone; it required practical experience. And what better place to gain experience than a battlefield, where injured shinobi were plentiful? Here, Shizune's medical skills could rapidly improve.
"By the way, Lady Tsunade, Feng Ye wants to come and visit you..." Shizune said.
"Feng Ye? That brat? Isn't he with Orochimaru?" Tsunade tilted her head, unsure why Feng Ye would want to visit her. However, she was also curious to meet this young genius and casually threw on a robe before saying, "Come in."
"Greetings, Lady Tsunade," Feng Ye said as he entered the tent, offering a smile. "We met once before, but I didn't have a chance to greet you properly. I heard you were here, so I came over. Lord Orochimaru often mentions your medical prowess and praises it highly."
Tsunade's eyes scanned Feng Ye up and down.
Hmm.
"There's no need for formalities... You're that brat Orochimaru's disciple and the son of Sakumo. I feel somewhat responsible for Sakumo-san... If I had been in the village at the time..." Tsunade trailed off, a hint of apology in her voice.
Sakumo Hatake was older than the Sannin, and his fame had preceded theirs. Both Orochimaru and Tsunade had been on missions with Sakumo and had received his care.
When the incident with Sakumo occurred, Tsunade had been gambling in a small town in the Fire Country. By the time she heard the news, it was too late to do anything.
"It was Father's stubborn personality that led to his end. Even if you had been in the village, Lady Tsunade, I doubt you could have changed anything," Feng Ye said, shaking his head. "By the way, I heard that your condition isn't very good. When my father passed away, Kakashi was also in a terrible state. While comforting him, I developed some methods to calm him down..."
Tsunade paused, taken aback, then said with a hint of amusement, "You want to treat me?"
If anyone else had suggested this, she would have kicked them out by now. She didn't like the topic, but Feng Ye was young, and she felt a slight debt to him because of his father. Plus, it had been she who brought up White Fang.
