Chapter 88: The Shattered Calm
Chapter 88: The Shattered Calm
It was evident that Ino had become engrossed in the book describing Hayato Kurotsuki's life. She recalled many details that even Hayato himself had nearly forgotten, reciting them clearly at this moment.
Unknowingly, the young lady of the Yamanaka clan, like her ancestor who authored the book, had become a devoted fan of Hayato. After all, if her ancestor hadn't genuinely admired Hayato, how could they have written such a book, filled with praise, documenting his numerous significant life events?
Hayato, however, was unaware that he once had such an admirer from the Yamanaka clan. To be honest, he even felt that the author's praise of him was excessive.
Hayato was well aware that he wasn't the kind of person described in the book—a true hero or a great saint. He admired those who, despite their lack of physical strength, dared to venture into danger and aspired to transform the world for their ideals.
For himself, the actions he had taken throughout his journey were more of a friendly expression stemming from his powerful abilities and an innate desire to kill. The acts of revenge he carried out were based on his strong foundation in ninjutsu rather than dedicated efforts to travel far and wide.
In reality, Hayato's philosophy had always been straightforward, far less complex than how the five great ninja villages and other forces perceived it.
When he first crossed over from a world without magic and truly experienced the energy known as chakra flowing within him, enabling him to perform feats that ordinary people couldn't, his philosophy was solidified.
His goal was simple: to keep moving forward and discover what lay at the pinnacle of chakra. Perhaps there would be a door there.
A door to an even higher realm.
For Hayato, finding that door, opening it, and witnessing the scenery beyond would be the ultimate achievement.
Of course, the beauty of life lies not only in the outcome but also in the journey. It's only natural to occasionally pause during the process, appreciate what one has experienced, and make changes within one's capacity to the things one dislikes.
This should have been a simple and pure aspiration, yet others always seemed to complicate it. Conspirators always assumed others harbored plots in their hearts, as if everyone shared their mindset.
Hayato shook his head, bringing himself back to the present.
At that moment, Ino, chin raised, asked Sakura, "Well, Sakura, do you still think Hayato is a big bad guy like Orochimaru?"
"I... I don't know," Sakura replied, feeling like her three fundamental worldviews had been severely shaken, leaving her mind in a haze.
For Sakura, who was only twelve years old and lacked extensive life experience, the world and its people should have been clearly distinguishable as good or evil. Hayato, who caused so much pressure for Konoha and the ninja world, should have been the quintessential villain in her imagination.
However, after hearing Ino recount Hayato's life story, she realized that such a person couldn't be simply labeled a villain.
So, who exactly was Hayato?
Sakura felt like two little people were fighting fiercely in her mind.
Hayato spoke up, "In the real world, some things and people cannot be judged simply as good or bad. Conflicts of interest and ideology often lead to heroes and saints fighting each other to the death."
Sakura still didn't fully understand, but she grasped a kernel of truth from his words.
Ino was speechless at her friend's obsession and chose to ignore her instead. Turning to 'Sosuke' the doctor, she asked with an air of triumph, "Doctor Sosuke, you've heard quite a bit now. What are your thoughts on Hayato?"
"As for me..." Hayato stroked his chin and smiled faintly. "He is a dangerous individual who poses a significant threat to the stability and peace of the ninja world."
Ino: "."
For the first time, she felt that the handsome "Sosuke" had become somewhat "detestable."
Hayato bid farewell to Ino, whose face was turning red, as well as Sakura, who could not stop talking about Sasuke.
As the day was coming to an end, Hayato was about to head back.
Suddenly, he paused, sensing a familiar secret technique's fluctuation, and his eyes narrowed as he turned to look into the distance.
"There are always those in this world who arrogantly believe that the world should conform to their ideals. Yet they fail to understand that the world is what it is. And they are but insignificant ants."
Hayato's eyelids drooped, and he muttered to himself, "Once again, peace has been shattered by your own hands."
Rewind time a little.
After leaving the Memorial Stone in Konoha, Tobirama decided to put an end to the intertwined fates of Hayato and Konoha. Taking advantage of what little time he had left, he went shopping on the streets and bought many of his son's favorite vegetables and expensive toys that he had always longed for, hoping to give his son a memorable night.
After finishing his shopping, he headed home with his arms full of bags.
As he approached, he could see the light from inside the house, and he imagined that his sensible son had already cleaned the house and was sitting on the sofa, glancing at the door from time to time, patiently awaiting his return.
A smile appeared on Tobirama's face as he reached the door and was about to take out his keys.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Incredibly faint tearing sounds broke the silence.
Tobirama's expression changed.
Before he could react, a group of ninjas dressed in black robes and wearing colorful masks surrounded him.
The leader spoke in a cold tone, "Tobirama, there is a mission that requires your cooperation. Come with us to the Root now."
Tobirama clenched his fists. "Root? I am directly under the Fire Shadow, a member of the Intelligence Analysis Team. You have no authority over me."
Before he could finish, one of the Root ninjas interrupted, "This is Danzo-sama's order."
Tobirama wanted to say something more, but the Root ninjas took action and quickly subdued him.
In the end, Tobirama could only glare at his home one last time before losing consciousness.
The group quickly disappeared, leaving behind only the bags of fresh vegetables and toys, untouched and forgotten on the ground.
Soon, the door, which was so close, was opened.
Tobirama's son poked his head out, confused to see no one outside but only bags of things on the ground. He called out tentatively, "Dad?"
Tobirama couldn't answer.
When he woke up again, he found himself in a dim secret room.
Directly in front of him sat the man known as the "Dark of the Shinobi," leaning back in a cold, hard chair, his hands resting on the top of his cane as he gazed at the now-conscious Tobirama. "You will answer my questions," he said coldly.
"Who is Sosuke's true identity?"
