Chapter 88: Seven Mysteries of the Campus (X)
Before long, the porcine giant emerged from the kitchen carrying two steaming bowls of fragrant meat broth. He placed them on the table before Feng Bu Jue and Si Yu, then declared, "One bowl contains human flesh soup. The other, pork. Choose your bowls—drink pork, you live. Drink human flesh..." His gaze swept over them, "...and you'll join my freezer for the next batch."
Ouink's hulking frame cast a shadow over the kitchen's dim light, making the golden broth in both bowls appear tantalizingly aromatic.
"I'll warn you", Ouink added, "no leftovers. No spitting it out. Break the rules, and you both become my stock."
The bowls contained only clear broth—identical in color, both shimmering with a thin layer of grease. Visually indistinguishable. Even the scent betrayed nothing—the same seasonings, spices, and red wine masked any meaty differences. Human olfaction, already mediocre, stood no chance here.
Feng Bu Jue broke the silence first. With a decisive motion, he grabbed a bowl and downed it in ten seconds, scalding liquid be damned.
Si Yu hesitated, then reached for the remaining bowl. "Might as well—"
Before she could finish, Feng Bu Jue snatched her bowl and drank it too, finishing the second serving just as quickly.
Si Yu gaped. Seconds later, realization dawned—He knew. He'd consumed pork first, then snatched hers to spare her the human flesh.
But Feng Bu Jue's mind raced. Both tasted identical. Had he misjudged?
"You think you protected her?" Ouink rumbled. "What if I simply made more?"
Feng Bu Jue slammed the table, eyes blazing. If looks could kill...
"Follow me", Ouink ordered, striding toward the kitchen.
Si Yu pulled his arm, mouthing Don't go. But Feng Bu Jue patted her hand—Wait for me—and slipped a finger across her palm before turning away.
Inside the kitchen, Ouink flung open the freezer. A U-shaped human torso hung on a hook. "Well Boy", he said, slapping the meat onto the counter. "Meek in life, murderous in death. The yin-yang master wounded him, so I... edited him."
He dragged out another corpse—this one armless. "The music teacher. Wannabe composer. Died mid-composition, now haunts players with his eternally repeated concerto."
Feng Bu Jue ventured, "Let me guess—the dead child's mother?"
"Precisely." Ouink produced a jar of blood containing two human eyes. "Vain girl. Played four suitors at once. Gossiped into a sink until her lungs turned the water red. Even blinded, she stalks eyes obsessively."
Feng Bu Jue frowned. "The Thirteenth Step dimension?"
"Where corpses from this campus go", Ouink replied. "But tell me—why do ghosts from beyond the school hunt you?"
The question struck him—Ah. The system's punitive ghosts had nothing to do with the campus mysteries.
"I'll skip the why", Feng Bu Jue deflected. "Why the soup charade? And the nursery rhyme?"(End of Chapter)
