Chapter 88: Lanchi's Aftereffects from the Shadow World
Chapter 88: Lanchi's Aftereffects from the Shadow World
As the gentle dawn bathed the once dull walls and furnishings of the dormitory building in its warm light, they seemed to come to life, awakening from their slumber of the night.
"I hope I have better options besides spiritual magic."
Lanchi, feeding his animal friends on the balcony, muttered to himself, though they probably couldn't understand much of what he was saying.
The Great Lover Poet, as a magic card, involved musical magic, but its essence still belonged to the Spiritual category, as it influenced the enemy's spirit directly or indirectly through music.
And indeed, most musical magic fell under the broad category of spiritual magic.
Now that Lanchi had reached the third tier, having passed the compact entrance examination and completed the Shadow World, he finally had some free time on his hands. His plan for the day was to ask Talia to help him determine if he had a better affinity for any type of magic besides Spiritual magic.
"Oh, right, I also need to buy some potted plants for the house."
Lanchi, with his palm outstretched, feeding the chirping little birds that were constantly nodding and pecking at the food, suddenly seemed to remember something.
The beautiful time that the Great Lover Poet was supposed to enjoy in the Demon World Academy had been shattered by the cultists, and after returning to the earthly realm, Lanchi had summoned her for a short while to express his apologies. However, the Great Lover Poet didn't take advantage of the situation to make excessive demands; she only asked to grow flowers and requested that Lanchi let her out occasionally.
Lanchi readily agreed to the Great Lover Poet's request.
But now, thinking about it carefully, with him keeping birds and her wanting to grow flowers, Lanchi felt that if this continued, his dormitory would soon turn into a natural ecological park.
After feeding his little animals, Lanchi returned to the living room and sat on the sofa, pondering where he should go for breakfast.
Upon clearing the fourth-tier Shadow World, the academy would grant students two weeks of freely distributable vacation time to recuperate from their strenuous efforts.
At the moment, Lanchi had more free time than he knew what to do with.
At the very least, he wouldn't have to endure the torment of the instructors at the Sage's Court for the next two weeks.
"Or maybe I should just go and find my master first thing in the morning."
Lanchi felt that today was the perfect opportunity to visit Talia, not only to seek her advice on magic affinity but also to engage in a passionate discussion about the important research project of "hairstyle transformation magic."
As for choosing a dining establishment with Talia, even though she wouldn't explicitly express her preferences, one could discern her interest or lack thereof through the subtle changes in her pupils: this place was "acceptable" or "not very interesting."
And when Talia showed interest in a particular establishment, it was undoubtedly an excellent choice!
Lanchi now regarded her as a human culinary detector.
However, Talia didn't seem to be aware that Lanchi was using her in this manner... yet.
Lanchi walked up to the mirror, took his coat from the solid wood standing coat rack, and put it on, ready to set off.
The last time Talia and Lanchi parted ways, she had mentioned that she would be changing her residence.
Since she planned to stay in the royal capital for an extended period, living in a hotel would be a meaningless waste of money, so she had found a new place to stay.
Lanchi recalled that the address was not far from the school's east side, just a fifteen-minute walk or so.
"Knock, knock."
Just then, the door of Dormitory 101 was suddenly knocked on.
"Coming, coming!"
Hearing the knock, Lanchi hurried towards the entrance hall.
He had no idea who would be knocking on his door so early in the morning, and he was glad he hadn't left yet, or else his visitor would have come in vain.
He felt that now that his dormitory address had been found out and would likely spread, he would have quite a few visitors even if he stayed in his room and skipped classes for the next few days.
Upon returning to school yesterday, even though it wasn't yet fully light out, many students had cheered him on, giving him a taste of what it felt like to be a celebrity.
It seemed that his positive and energetic display in the Shadow World had earned the recognition of his peers, who were also very polite and knew to give him space to rest, refraining from disturbing him yesterday.
Lanchi thought to himself as he lowered the doorknob.
As the door opened, a silver-haired and bearded elderly man with a tall stature and a spirited demeanor stood outside.
"Hello...?"
Lanchi did not recognize the old man, but from his attire, he seemed to be a professor, and a high-ranking one, at the Sage's Court.
Although the wrinkles of time were evident on his lofty nose bridge and delicate facial contours, it only added to his air of wisdom and dignity, and he exuded an aura of profound and unfathomable magic.
It made sense that a professor would know where he lived.
"Student Lanchi, don't worry, I'm just here for a chat."
The elder evidently saw the confusion in Lanchi's eyes and spoke gently,
"I am Ron, the vice-dean of the Sage's Court. You will be seeing me in your classes from now on."
Although Lanchi had skipped the last class taught by Vice-Dean Ron on the first day of school, which was supposed to be their first meeting, they had not met in person until now.
However, Vice-Dean Ron had already witnessed far too many of Lanchi's "colorful" displays in the Sage's Court conference room.
"Professor Ron, please come in."
Lanchi seemed as if he intended to clasp his hands behind his back and give a slight nod, then inquire and inform the vice-dean of any important work matters.
But he quickly realized that this was the Eiriklite Academy, and he was no longer the principal. He hastily switched roles and very politely invited Professor Ron, who had come to visit, to take a seat on the sofa in the living room.
Lanchi was still a little shaken, feeling as if he had developed some after-effects from the Shadow World, as he almost triggered his "principal" function when faced with the academy's leadership.
In the living room.
Ron gave a simple glance around, taking in the layout of Lanchi's dormitory, which was very neatly kept.
Obviously, Lanchi was a student with excellent living habits who took great care of his dormitory, a stark contrast to those sloppy and unruly students.
However, Lanchi's gentle and polite demeanor gave Vice-Dean Ron a sense of surreal sci-fi.
It was hard to imagine that the good young man before him, who seemed at peace and of good character, was the same person as the mighty overlord they had all witnessed rampaging through the demon world in the Sage's Court conference room just yesterday.
It even led Ron to exclaim inwardly that it was a good thing that examiner Ferrat from the third round of the entrance examination had encountered the legally bound Lanchi of the mortal realm. Had it been the Radiant Demon from the Shadow World, Ferrat would likely have ceased to exist by now.
As these thoughts flitted through his mind, Ron felt as if he were in a different world, unable to fathom how one person could possess such contrasting dualities.
However, it had to be admitted that Lanchi was indeed their Sage's Court's most outstanding freshman this year.
Just a little too outstanding.
Along with a sense of danger that was unpredictable to normal people.
Of course, the danger lay with those who had yet to understand the true extent of this student's capabilities and even contemplated provoking him.
Today also has three chapters, with one more to come!
