Chapter 88: Huh? Extraordinary Profession Panel!
Chapter 88: Huh? Extraordinary Profession Panel!
This was obviously not due to the breathing technique, so there were only two other possible reasons left.
Either it was a difference in individual physical qualities.
Or it was due to the differences in the main ingredients of the advanced potion.
Perhaps, it was a combination of both.
"After all, the differences between people are sometimes greater than anything else!"
"And there are definitely more than one or two types of extraordinary bear-like creatures."
Additionally, Rain thought of something related to what Hamilton had just mentioned about the 'special extraordinary characteristic of the mystic side energy particles'.
"Um, Sir Hamilton, the faint cyan air current on that feral werewolf we subdued last time, was that the special extraordinary characteristic of the mystic side energy particles that you mentioned?"
Hamilton glanced at Rain with appreciation and said, "Smart! That's right."
"That feral werewolf awakened a special talent called 'Skybreak'."
"The monster's talent ability is the same as our human knights' extraordinary characteristic. It's just a different way of expressing the distinction between humans and other creatures."
"This talent ability not only enhances the monster's movement speed but also has a strengthening effect on tearing. It's a highly sought-after extraordinary characteristic for those who specialize in assassination, scouting, and the like."
"Um, Sir Hamilton, since there are people who have awakened two extraordinary characteristics, are there people who have awakened three?" Rain asked again.
Since Hamilton was in a good mood, Rain naturally seized the opportunity to ask more questions.
"Haha, of course, there are, but most of them are because the breathing technique they cultivate is extraordinary in itself, and these breathing techniques are mostly inherited by ancient noble families."
"Perhaps, in the entire Meistershire, only the Habsburg family might have it."
"However, Rain, the widespread distribution of breathing techniques also means that it's much easier to find or purchase advanced potions. For most people, this isn't necessarily a bad thing!" Hamilton looked at Rain and said seriously.
There's such a thing?
Shouldn't breathing techniques be more powerful and challenging to cultivate the rarer they are?
What kind of logic is this?
Rain was still feeling a bit confused after hearing this.
Hamilton didn't keep him guessing and continued to explain, "For example, there was once a powerful breathing technique called 'Thunderbird Breath Technique', which was the inherited breathing technique of an imperial marquis family. But do you know what the main ingredient for the advanced potion of this breathing technique is?"
"Over the past thousand years, traces of the Thunderbird have gradually become untraceable, so naturally, the Thunderbird Feathers couldn't be obtained either. As a result, the advanced potion for this breathing technique has always relied on the Thunderbird Feathers from the family's reserves."
"Hundreds of years ago, when the Thunderbird Feathers reserves were exhausted, no one could successfully advance in this breathing technique anymore."
At this point, Hamilton's expression carried a hint of regret.
"So that's the case. The more advanced the breathing technique, the more stringent the requirements for the advanced potion."
"On the other hand, although the power of ordinary breathing techniques is slightly inferior to advanced ones, the main ingredient for the advanced potion is highly substitutable and easily obtainable." Rain thought for a moment and summarized.
"That's right!" Hamilton nodded.
"So, for commoners aspiring to become extraordinary, cultivating ordinary knight breathing techniques isn't necessarily a bad thing."
[Ding! Host detected listening to extraordinary secrets, triggering advanced job change – Knight (Extraordinary)!]
[Promotion to Knight (Extraordinary) prerequisites: 1. Any knight breathing technique level 5 or above; 2. Strength 12 points or above, Agility 12 points or above, Constitution 12 points or above; 3. Any horsemanship level 3 or above, Shield Defense level 3 or above, any archery level 3 or above, any close combat battle skill level 4 or above; 4. Corresponding advanced potion. Current conditions do not meet the requirements! Promotion to Knight (Extraordinary) failed!]
"Huh? This works too?"
Looking at the sudden system prompt, Rain read it carefully several times, feeling both surprised and delighted!
He never expected that listening to Hamilton's talk about advanced potions and extraordinary characteristics would directly trigger his advanced job change information!
"From the conditions, it seems that advancing to the Knight profession doesn't necessarily require having the Knight Squire profession panel."
"Before, I was worried that I had to first change to the Knight Squire profession and then trigger the Knight profession. Now it seems like I worried for nothing."
The primary condition is to have a knight breathing technique at level 5, right? That makes sense. With the breathing technique cultivated to a certain level, along with the advanced potion, one can advance to become a knight.
"Rain?"
Hamilton, seeing Rain standing there in a daze, couldn't help but smile and tease him, "Is it that you heard too much about the extraordinary just now, and now you're overwhelmed?"
How could that be!
I was hoping you'd say more!
But Rain could only keep these thoughts to himself.
"Haha, of course not, Sir Hamilton. I'm very grateful for your guidance today. I hope that in the future, you'll continue to guide me."
Rain bowed slightly to express his gratitude.
Today, Hamilton had indeed answered many of Rain's doubts.
Just as Hamilton was about to say something, a sudden, hurried knock on the door interrupted him.
"Come in!" Hamilton's expression turned solemn as he looked towards the door.
"Sir Hamilton, Viscount Hamadi, the sheriff of County City, requests your presence."
Hamilton nodded and then turned to Rain, saying, "Rain, it seems like we'll have to continue our chat next time."
"By the way, you should join Captain Wilen's squad first. He'll arrange your daily tasks."
"Captain Wilen has complained to me several times, asking why your employment paperwork isn't done yet," Sir Hamilton said.
"Alright, Sir Hamilton, Captain Wilen and I are quite familiar with each other, and I'm delighted to join his squad," Rayen said with a smile as he stood up.
After leaving Sir Hamilton's office, Rayen found Captain Wilen at the training ground behind the Administrative Hall.
Upon hearing that Rayen had officially joined and was assigned to his squad as requested, Captain Wilen was overjoyed.
He patted Rayen's shoulder with a heavy hand and laughed, "Haha, excellent! I've been waiting for you!"
"Rayen, you have no idea how many times I've nagged Sir Hamilton about this!"
"Captain Wilen, when will I start night patrols with you? Tonight?" Rayen asked eagerly.
"No need to rush, tomorrow will do. After we're done here, go prepare and inform your family," Captain Wilen replied.
"Alright!" Rayen nodded.
Back home, Rayen retreated to his room for some quiet contemplation.
His initial thought for joining the Night Watch was to seek protection during his vulnerable hours.
But now, it seemed that the Night Watch, as an official force of the Empire, was a powerful tree.
His current task was to enhance his authority or position within the Night Watch, thereby gaining access to more resources and secret knowledge.
To achieve this, he had to continuously complete relevant tasks, make meaningful contributions, and accumulate a substantial number of merit points.
These tasks were not the usual night patrols of the Night Watch.
The merit points gained from routine work were too insignificant for Rayen.
Only unexpected and highly dangerous missions could bring substantial merit points, such as the missions Rayen had previously participated in—the extermination of Savage Werewolves and Evil Fin Fishmen.
"So, next, I need to focus on two things: First, continue practicing hard to improve my strength. Second, take on as many urgent or emergency missions as possible to earn high merit points."
As for bounty hunting missions?
Bounty hunting missions for reward money were different from the Night Watch's tasks.
However, Rayen didn't mind completing some easy bounty missions during his daytime breaks.
After all, the vicious criminals in bounty missions were like walking 'experience points' to Rayen.
With combat, Rayen's Night Watch profession level might increase, which was a good thing.
Of course, the prerequisite was to win!
So, after a moment of reflection, Rayen returned to the idea of diligent training to enhance his strength.
At the same time, Rayen carefully analyzed the four conditions for promotion to a full knight.
First, any knight breathing technique at level 5 or higher—this wasn't a problem. As long as he advanced in any profession, he could raise his breathing technique from level 4 to level 5.
Second, the three basic attributes of strength, agility, and constitution—he was only one or two points away. Considering that the Giant Bear Breath Technique focused on strength and constitution, he could improve these attributes by leveling up.
The shield defense was a bit tricky. He could either exchange merit points for combat skills or find someone to teach him.
As for riding, a few trips to the stables for practice would suffice.
And so, Rayen, accompanied by 'Cookie', embarked on his first night patrol.
His patrol partners were Captain Wilen and the short Mateo, both of whom he was familiar with, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
"Rayen, is that your Spiritite Dog? It looks about six months old," Mateo asked, looking at the smooth-coated, long-limbed dog with muscles starting to show.
"Hmm, I haven't checked, but I think it's been about three months," Rayen replied.
"What? How long?" Mateo was taken aback, and Captain Wilen turned to listen.
"Three months," Rayen confirmed.
"Rayen, are you serious? Are you pulling my leg?" Mateo looked at Rayen suspiciously, as if seeking confirmation.
"No, I'm not joking," Rayen realized and understood Mateo's doubt.
It was understandable!
Recently, under Rayen's 'nutritious' meals, although the expenses were high, 'Cookie's' growth had accelerated significantly, visibly growing taller and stronger every day.
Rayen had to grit his teeth and spend twice the family's food budget on ingredients to feed 'Cookie'.
"Alright, Rayen, you're lucky to have found such a talented Spiritite Dog," Mateo said, convinced that Rayen wasn't joking. He attributed 'Cookie's' rapid growth to some innate talent.
Captain Wilen also couldn't help but take a few more glances at 'Cookie', impressed by its exceptional qualities.
"Haha, indeed, I've been quite lucky lately," Rayen laughed, agreeing with Mateo.
"By the way, Rayen, I'll share a dog food recipe with you later. It might help 'Cookie' grow faster. Just mix a raw egg into the rice," Mateo offered enthusiastically.
Rayen was stunned by the suggestion.
"Mateo, you're too kind. Thank you on Cookie's behalf," Rayen said.
"Woof woof woof!"
Suddenly, 'Cookie' barked loudly towards the alley on the right.
