Chapter 88: Five Million!
Chapter 88: Five Million!
No longer constrained by the narrow mountain path, Qiao Sang found herself in a vast, green expanse.
At first glance, she spotted two wild beast companions.
On the grass, a Grape Finch was chasing a Saddle Velvet Worm.
A normal Grape Finch is around 14 centimeters in length, but the one in front of her was much larger, clearly overfed.
It measured about 25 centimeters, with a body primarily in a grape-grayish brown color. Its head was a chestnut brown, and a black stripe ran from its head to the tip of its tail.
Its beak, in comparison to its body size, was particularly long and sharp.
Grape Finches are social familiars; even if there aren't many on the mountain, there are bound to be others nearby.
However, Qiao Sang didn't think about engaging these two wild beast companions in battle.
A flying-type familiar not flying but chasing a slow-moving insect-type familiar on the ground, and deliberately falling behind, clearly indicated they were familiar with each other and just playing around.
She didn't want to be the villain interrupting their fun.
The Grape Finch, which was on a diet, sensed Qiao Sang's presence.
Seeing that it was the Magnetmouse mother and son, it ignored them and continued with its dieting efforts.
After covering about half of the area, the Magnetmouse's mother stopped.
"Magnet-magnet."
She pointed to three trees in the area, each still bearing half of their green fruits.
Qiao Sang couldn't move her feet any further at the sight.
These fruits were called Powerberries.
Eating one didn't have any special effects, but it could sustain a familiar for three meals.
If funds were tight and one couldn't afford to feed their familiar, buying Powerberries would ensure the familiar wouldn't want anything else after eating one.
Of course, this only worked for familiars below the advanced rank.
Studies showed that advanced familiars needed three Powerberries a day to have the same effect, while general-class familiars required six.
However, many Beastmasters still chose to buy Powerberries to save money.
As a wealthy individual, Qiao Sang wasn't about to stop in her tracks just because of Powerberries.
Her gaze froze on the massive black and silver figure ahead.
Who could tell her why there was a general-class Silver-tailed Seasnake on Yellow Bright Mountain?
In the shade of the middle Powerberry tree, a giant snake familiar, about four meters long, was coiled. The first three-quarters of its body were black, while the remaining tail end was a cold, silver color.
As the third evolution form of the Shorttail Snake, Qiao Sang was familiar with it.
A Shorttail Snake could only evolve into a Longtail Serpent in its first evolution, and in its second evolution, it could only become a Silver-tailed Snake.
However, the third evolution form of the Silver-tailed Snake had two possibilities.
One was the Toxic Black Python, a pure Toxic-type familiar, and the other was the water-toxic dual-type Silver-tailed Seasnake.
The Toxic Black Python was the normal evolution form of the Silver-tailed Snake.
But to evolve into a Silver-tailed Seasnake, two conditions must be met.
First, it had to be in the sea, and it had to have a venomous dewdrop in its mouth during evolution. Both conditions were essential.
This familiar had no business being on Yellow Bright Mountain!
Taking advantage of the Silver-tailed Seasnake's closed eyes, Qiao Sang picked up Fangflare, who was still curiously staring at the tree, and quietly retreated.
"Fang?"
Fangflare looked bewildered.
Shouldn't they be moving forward?
The Treasure Seeker on Qiao Sang’s head quietly drank its milk, showing no interest in the fruits.
The Magnetmouse mother and son, seeing Qiao Sang moving in the opposite direction, hesitated for a moment before following her.
Once they retreated to where the Grape Finch and the Saddle Velvet Worm were still playing, Qiao Sang felt a sense of security.
Encountering a general-class wild beast companion without a Beastmaster on Yellow Bright Mountain was highly unusual.
The Magnetmouse showed no reaction when it saw the Silver-tailed Seasnake, indicating that it was aware of its presence.
However, this Silver-tailed Seasnake could not possibly be a wild beast companion.
Without even considering the Poison Dewdrop Artifact, the fact that there's no sea in Hanggang City, let alone Yellow Bright Mountain, makes the situation even more peculiar.
I didn't have time to think much earlier, but now, recalling the appearance of that Silver-tailed Seasnake, it seems really strange.
Its face was dark, so it wasn't noticeable, but the lower half of its body, the silver tail part, had three deep wounds that were untreated and even festering.
For a Shorttail Snake to evolve into a Silver-tailed Seasnake, its Beastmaster must have had the means to treat it.
Even if they were temporarily short on money, this is a General-Class Beast Companion, and most people would take out a loan to get it treated.
And there was no Beastmaster in sight.
This is abnormal.
Very abnormal.
A myriad of thoughts instantly flooded Qiao Sang's mind.
After a moment of contemplation, she pulled out her phone and dialed the Patrol Department.
Two seconds later, Qiao Sang's face fell.
There was no signal...
Yellow Bright Mountain, though it is a mountain, isn't a desolate place. Occasionally, people choose to climb it to watch the sunrise or exercise.
Ye Jingwen had even posted about climbing the mountain on social media.
She thought for a moment, then picked up her phone and called the Police Station.
Two seconds later, Qiao Sang panicked.
Why couldn't she reach the Police Station either?!
Usually, even without signal, a phone can still make emergency calls because they have a higher priority in transmission.
The signal here was deliberately blocked. Qiao Sang immediately drew her conclusion.
A randomly appearing injured Silver-tailed Seasnake with no Beastmaster and a blocked signal—these two abnormal events together made Qiao Sang sense impending danger.
She wanted to get down the mountain.
"Magnet?"
At that moment, the mother Magnetmouse called out in confusion.
Still having a bit of curiosity, Qiao Sang asked, "Have you seen the Beastmaster of that Silver-tailed Seasnake before?"
"Magnet." The mother Magnetmouse shook her head.
Qiao Sang had no other questions.
Just as she turned to head down the mountain, the Magnetmouse she had saved pointed to the left.
"Magnet-magnet."
"You know?" Qiao Sang was taken aback.
"Magnet."
The Magnetmouse nodded.
It had seen the Beastmaster during one of its secret meetings.
Although Qiao Sang was curious about what the Beastmaster of the Silver-tailed Seasnake looked like and why they hadn't treated it, there were too many things that didn't add up.
She decided it was best to leave first.
"I'll be going now. I'll leave the fruit. I hope we meet again someday." Qiao Sang said to the mother and son Magnetmice.
With that, Qiao Sang picked up Fangflare and pushed through the bushes they had come through.
When she emerged, she saw the mother and son Magnetmice blinking at her.
Qiao Sang stood there for a moment, then laughed awkwardly and quickly pushed through the bushes behind her.
In front of her were still the mother and son Magnetmice.
"Magnet?"
"Magnet?"
The mother and son Magnetmice tilted their heads in the same direction.
Ghostly obstruction!
Qiao Sang was completely panicked.
"Yah!"
Fangflare jumped out of Qiao Sang's arms and looked around alertly.
Qiao Sang forced herself to calm down.
In this world, any strange occurrence is caused by a Supernatural Creature.
The scene she was encountering could be the result of a Psychic Pet's illusion, a mirror space, or a Ghost-type Companion Beast's dream or ghostly obstruction.
There must be a high-level Psychic Type or Ghost-type familiar on this mountain.
A wild beast companion in a town couldn't possibly have the ability to use such high-level Skills.
"Where is the Beastmaster of that Silver-tailed Seasnake? Take me to them", Qiao Sang said.
"Magnet."
The Magnetmouse sensed Qiao Sang's seriousness and also became more serious.
Seven minutes later.
Qiao Sang hid behind a tree, her face full of shock as she looked at the pale, unconscious man lying on a pile of grass.
Holy crap!
This is five million!
