Chapter 88: A Great Way to Improve Study Efficiency
Chapter 88: A Great Way to Improve Study Efficiency
"A failure, it seems."
Twenty minutes after the results were announced, Mu Yue still hadn't received any system messages, indicating that the initial test results were not favorable.
The exams she had planned were not effective, especially with such short intervals between them.
Reluctantly, Mu Yue scrapped the idea of holding minor tests daily and major exams every three days.
Without the benefit of reaping rewards from these exams, the endeavor would be pointless and might even make her students think she was odd.
That evening during training, Itachi suddenly appeared before Mu Yue, a look of delight on his face. "Teacher Mu Yue, I think I've initially grasped the 'Body Flicker Technique'!"
Itachi proceeded to demonstrate the technique twice in front of her.
Mu Yue was now certain of his achievement, but she still used her identification ability to confirm it. Indeed, Itachi had reached the entry level for the technique.
"Yes, you've completed the training for this technique. Continue practicing, and you'll be ready to learn others," Mu Yue said as she closed the panel and nodded.
She intended to teach Itachi some fire-style ninjutsu to increase his offensive capabilities.
Itachi's quick learning meant she could confidently expand his repertoire.
As for Obito, Mu Yue didn't plan to teach him any new fire-style ninjutsu for now. The 'Great Fireball Technique' and 'Fire Release: Dragon Flame Release Song Technique' were sufficient; any more might overwhelm him during battles, causing him to hesitate.
Mu Yue turned her attention to Might Guy. A quick identification check revealed that he was still thirty points shy of reaching the entry level for the 'Body Flicker Technique'.
"At this rate, it will take about another week for him to master it," Mu Yue thought as she closed the panel.
She glanced at Might Guy and then at Obito, who was practicing speed-enhancing techniques, and an idea came to mind.
In the past, when Might Guy and Obito trained together, their body movements improved at an astonishing pace.
Back then, they were focused on taijutsu, specifically aiming to strike and evade the Hyuga clan's signature 'Gentle Fist' style.
Currently, they were both still honing the same skill—the 'Body Flicker Technique'. However, Obito hadn't yet mastered the complete technique and was essentially practicing the 'Instantaneous Body Technique', enhancing his speed.
Mu Yue called Obito and Might Guy over and asked with a smile, "Don't you think your learning efficiency has been a bit slow lately?"
Might Guy shook his head, feeling that their progress was normal.
However, Obito's eyes lit up. If Mu Yue was bringing it up, she must have a way to help them improve their learning efficiency, so he quickly replied, "Yes, Teacher Mu Yue. That speed-enhancing technique you taught us is quite challenging. Do you have any quicker methods for us to learn?"
"Yes, there is, but it depends on how much you want it," Mu Yue said, nodding.
"I do! I really do!" Obito looked at her with eager eyes, longing for a faster way to master the speed-enhancing techniques and take on the challenge of learning the 'Body Flicker Technique'.
"If there's a way to quickly master the 'Body Flicker Technique,' I want it too," Might Guy added, unable to resist the temptation of rapid progress.
"That's excellent," Mu Yue said with a gentle smile. "Why don't you both show me your fastest speed by running a lap?"
Although confused by her request, the two students complied and demonstrated their utmost speed, pushing themselves to the limit.
Mu Yue silently timed them, gaining a rough idea of their capabilities.
"Since that's the case, let's have a little competition to see who can break their own speed record," she suggested. "For every half-second you're slower than your personal best, you'll have to do five additional questions. Conversely, for every half-second you're faster, you can reduce five questions. Whoever reaches the finish line first will have thirty fewer questions to answer. You'll each start with forty questions."
Might Guy had almost mastered the entry-level Body Flicker Technique, while Tobirama hadn't even begun to learn the true technique yet. If the distances were the same, there would be no contest, and Tobirama would just end up doing all the questions while struggling to keep up.
"Huh?" Tobirama was taken aback, never expecting that Mu Yue's method for quick learning would be such a nightmarish training regime.
Hearing the rules, he felt like he had been transported back to the intense period of exam preparation, with its familiar punishment mechanisms and initial debt. And now, it seemed, the installment phase was about to begin.
"Teacher Mu Yue, I actually think our current efficiency is pretty good," Tobirama said, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead in an attempt to salvage the situation.
Might Guy nodded in agreement, adding, "I feel the same way."
It had been less than a month since they had escaped the relentless cycle of constant quizzes, and Might Guy had no desire to return to those days.
"Oh, I thought you two would enjoy a training method that combines theory and practice," Mu Yue said, her face falling as she feigned disappointment. "I even specially prepared the theoretical knowledge you'll be learning next semester. I guess we'll have to save it for when the new term starts."
Tobirama felt a pang of guilt, as he, too, had experienced similar situations. Despite coming up with ideas to help his comrades, they were often easily dismissed.
"Actually, Teacher Mu Yue, your idea is excellent. It will enhance our speed and improve our theoretical knowledge," Tobirama said, his heart aching as he tried to comfort Mu Yue, even if it meant enduring more quizzes.
Even if it meant more questions, he couldn't bear to see Mu Yue disappointed.
"Youth is all about rigorous training and tackling challenges!" Might Guy chimed in, not wanting to see Mu Yue sad either. But as he thought about the days ahead, he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed, his face betraying his true emotions.
"Then let's get ready to begin the competition," Mu Yue said, her gentle smile returning.
Seeing Mu Yue's warm smile again, Tobirama breathed a sigh of relief, followed by an urge to slap himself for getting them into this situation in the first place.
"Why do you always have to be so quick to respond?" he berated himself. "If only you hadn't brought up the topic of training efficiency in the first place, none of this would be happening."
However, there was no turning back now. Knowing that the competition was inevitable, Tobirama's only recourse was to minimize the damage he would incur during the event.
On the surface, the offer to reduce five questions for every half-second of improved speed beyond their limit seemed appealing. But breaking one's limit was no easy feat.
On the other hand, the person who reached the finish line first would get to skip thirty questions outright, making it the most appealing option, and one that might not even require surpassing their limits.
Of course, Might Guy had the same thought, and they both knew that whoever crossed the finish line first would be in the most advantageous position.
The two exchanged a glance, their eyes sparkling with determination and a shared dread of the impending questions.
Mu Yue outlined the running route and the final point, positioning herself at a spot where they could both clearly hear her.
"Ready, set, go!" she shouted.
As soon as Tobirama heard Mu Yue's signal, he bolted, not even bothering to look back, tapping into every ounce of speed he could muster.
