Chapter 877: Ivan: Impossible, Am I a Fake Gryffindor?
Chapter 877: Ivan: Impossible, Am I a Fake Gryffindor?
Ivan reached out and picked up the Gryffindor's Sword from the bedside, examining it closely.
The ornate blade looked no different from before, but Ivan could clearly feel that the magic within it seemed to have been enhanced.
The original Gryffindor's Sword did not have the ability to destroy Horcruxes, as evidenced by Harry's first failed attempt to damage Nagini.
However, the sword's greatest strength was its ability to absorb any beneficial factors to strengthen itself. It seemed that this "beneficial factor" could include not only physical materials but also spiritual and willpower energy!
As an Alchemical Master, Ivan was no stranger to this kind of emotional energy. For example, he used this power to repair the Crescent Pendant during the previous school year.
However, his current skill level was still quite limited, and his use of emotional energy was relatively basic—merely storing it and using it to enhance magic when needed.
Gryffindor's Sword, on the other hand, seemed to be able to recycle and permanently enhance itself with this energy.
"I wonder how the Goblins managed to create such a sword..." Ivan marveled, running his fingers along the blade, admiring their craftsmanship.
Thinking about Harry's description, Ivan gripped the hilt and tried to infuse his will into the sword, but after several attempts, he saw no sign of the blade glowing faintly as Harry had described. Even his attempt to summon the sword failed.
Could it be that I'm a fake Gryffindor? Ivan couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed.
No, that's impossible. It must be because my will isn't strong enough...
After all, I'm a proper wizard who doesn't have the urge to go around slashing people with a sword.
"Do you remember how you infused your power into the sword, Harry?" Ivan turned to Harry and asked.
Harry hesitated for a moment. He recalled that he hadn't done anything specific; he had just been filled with a sudden urge to attack Nagini, focusing solely on how to defeat her.
After hearing Harry's explanation, Ivan was at a loss for words, unsure of what to say.
However, this made him realize that only an incredibly pure will could resonate with Gryffindor's Sword.
Perhaps Dumbledore saw that Harry was a hot-headed young man and was confident that he could successfully slay Nagini.
With this in mind, Ivan set the sword aside. It seemed that the sword wasn't well-suited for someone who relied more on intellect in battle. In comparison, he trusted the power of his wand more.
"By the way, there's something else I forgot to mention..." Harry suddenly remembered and quickly spoke up. "When I saw Professor Dumbledore in the other world, he told me he was waiting for someone. If that person agrees to keep their promise, they should be arriving soon!"
"Waiting for someone?" Ivan was taken aback, his brow furrowing.
"Do you know who he's waiting for, Hals?" Snape asked curiously.
"Gellert Grindelwald!" Ivan said with certainty, then, seeing the confused looks on their faces, continued. "Professor Dumbledore and Grindelwald were once very close friends. They only became enemies due to ideological differences."
Harry was skeptical. He found it hard to believe that Professor Dumbledore, in his youth, could have been friends with someone as notorious as the Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald...
This is even more outrageous than Voldemort being a Gryffindor.
Snape was equally incredulous. Everyone in the Wizarding World knew how much Dumbledore despised Dark Magic and had spent his life fighting against it.
But the thought of Dumbledore deliberately setting him up to lure Voldemort to Grindelwald made Snape swallow his objections.
Ivan didn’t elaborate on this matter. After all, Dumbledore was already dead, and there was no need to reopen old wounds.
Few great figures in life could pass away without any blemishes. Even if he had made some mistakes in his earlier years, it didn’t detract from Dumbledore’s greatness.
“Professor Snape, could you please take a look at this?” Ivan took a vial from his robes and handed it to Snape.
Snape, puzzled, took it and glanced down. The transparent vial contained some dark red blood, which looked quite peculiar.
“This is Grindelwald’s blood! He took part of the Dark Magic damage that was meant for Dumbledore. Can you use this to determine his current physical state?” Ivan said, his expression grave.
His hour-long stay at Nurmengard wasn’t just about setting fires. He had also collected the blood that dripped when Grindelwald cut his left hand.
Unfortunately, the blood was problematic, or it could have been used to set up a Dark Magic curse or brew a Polyjuice Potion.
Snape gently opened the vial, used his wand to draw out a small amount of blood, and examined it closely. Having been Dumbledore’s primary healer for two years, he was well-versed in the peculiarities of Dark Magic and quickly reached a conclusion.
“If nothing unexpected happens, he won’t last more than two months,” Snape said, waving his wand to return the blood to the vial.
“If you were to treat him, without considering the cost, do you think you could save Grindelwald?” Ivan asked again.
“Absolutely not! The corruption is too deep and intertwined with his magic. I can’t think of any way to help him,” Snape shook his head, feeling somewhat relieved.
Grindelwald wasn’t someone to be underestimated; he was likely just as formidable as Voldemort. Knowing that this dangerous figure was about to die, Snape felt a sense of relief.
Ivan didn’t dispute Snape’s judgment, as it aligned with his own suspicions. Dumbledore had spent two years trying to remove this peculiar Dark Magic and failed. What chance did Grindelwald have?
“Since he’s about to die, why did he escape from prison?” Harry asked, puzzled.
Ivan rolled his eyes; he had been wondering the same thing. With only two months left, even if Grindelwald had a brilliant plan to conquer the world, it was too late to implement it.
And sharing the spell’s damage with someone else, like Dumbledore had done?
That was clearly impossible!
Even powerful wizards of their caliber couldn’t endure for a year. Ordinary wizards would probably succumb to the Dark Magic’s corruption in a matter of weeks.
Moreover, this was only a temporary solution. No matter how much time they bought, the end result was still death.
