Chapter 875: The Death Eaters' Plan, Hesidiri Archipelago
Chapter 875: The Death Eaters' Plan, Hesidiri Archipelago
"Lucius?"
The Death Eaters outside watched as Lucius Malfoy returned, frowning in suspicion. "Why are you back so soon? Don't you care about your Galleons, or do you dare defy the Dark Lord's orders?"
"Of course not," Lucius Malfoy replied calmly. "It is an honor for these Galleons to assist the Dark Lord, and it is a privilege for my Malfoy family."
"In that case, why did you come back?"
"Gringotts is crowded, and I have to wait a while for a goblin to take me to the underground vault," Lucius Malfoy explained. "I don't want to just stand here. I'd rather go to Knockturn Alley to buy something."
"Gringotts is crowded?" The Death Eater was skeptical, but he started walking towards the bank to see for himself.
Lucius Malfoy didn't stop him; instead, he quickly descended the stairs, saying, "Then I'll go to Knockturn Alley first. We'll meet up here later."
Without another word, he headed towards the nearby alley.
The Death Eater furrowed his brows, looking at the nearby Gringotts and then at Lucius, who was walking away. Without hesitation, he turned and followed Lucius.
He didn't feel comfortable letting Lucius act alone.
"Don't you trust me?" Lucius asked, glancing back at his fast-approaching companion.
"If you truly serve the Dark Lord wholeheartedly, you should willingly hand over the vault," the Death Eater taunted.
"The Dark Lord doesn't care about such things," Lucius replied. "Who would you give it to, you?"
"I don't mind," the Death Eater said sinisterly, not hiding his intentions.
Lucius remained silent and quickened his pace.
The two turned into Knockturn Alley, and the already quiet street became even more deserted. The shops on both sides had their doors wide open, but not a soul was inside; it was pitch-black, like a beast waiting to devour its prey.
Lucius skillfully turned into another, narrower alley.
The Death Eater followed, continuing his incessant chatter, "You're really lucky. If it weren't for Lestrange's death, you'd be the one dead right now."
"That's something I should be saying," Lucius chuckled coldly. "If Bellatrix hadn't died, a useless person like you wouldn't even have the chance to speak to me."
"What did you say?"
The Death Eater immediately lost his temper and grabbed Lucius' robe.
The Dark Lord had personally told him that once Lucius Malfoy became useless, he would take his place.
A failure on the brink of abandonment, how dare he speak to him like that? Did he want to die?
"What, did I say something wrong?" Lucius turned around, smiling. "You can't even tell if someone is using Polyjuice Potion to disguise themselves. Aren't you just a waste?"
"Transformation... You..." The Death Eater's pupils suddenly constricted, and he reached for his wand.
But it was already too late by the time he reacted.
Two sharp stone spikes emerged from the wall behind them, piercing the Death Eater's shoulders and pinning him to the opposite wall.
The Death Eater felt dizzy, and every movement caused excruciating pain in his shoulders, making it impossible for him to struggle.
"You... Who are you..." The torn wound made his voice tremble. "You... You can't kill me... The Dark Lord will kill you if you do... You can't escape..."
"Who am I? I'm Lucius Malfoy, of course. What, don't you recognize me?"
Lucius smiled, but his platinum-blonde hair began to shorten rapidly, soon turning into a short, black hairstyle. His pale face also transformed into a younger, more vibrant one.
"You... You're not Malfoy... Who are you..." The Death Eater roared in terror, "Dare to provoke the Dark Lord... Let me go if you don't want to die..."
"If you don't even recognize me, you're definitely a waste." Kyle canceled the Polyjuice Charm and sighed.
He had thought he had caught a big fish, but it turned out to be a clump of seaweed.
Not to boast, but given Voldemort's level of hatred towards him, Kyle estimated that his notoriety among the Death Eaters was likely second only to Harry Potter's.
The fact that this Death Eater didn't recognize him could only mean that he was a minor figure with no decision-making power, merely following orders.
Had Lucius Malfoy fallen so low? Not only was he distrusted, but he was also being watched by such an insignificant waste.
Kyle scoffed and picked up the wand that the Death Eater had dropped, weighing it in his hand.
"Whoever you are, release me immediately, or the Dark Lord..." The Death Eater continued to shout, but the pain was too much. Every movement caused his shoulders to feel like they were about to break, and he stopped struggling.
Kyle ignored him and examined the wand in his hand.
"A pure black wand, is it made of ebony? And the core... it's definitely not unicorn hair, probably a dragon heartstring for the pursuit of power."
"What, why are you asking this?"
"Of course, I'm getting to know my weapon in advance. Even if you're a waste, you still have some value as a weapon.
Kyle raised the ebony wand, pointing it at the Death Eater's head.
"Although I've never used a wand like this before, the dragon heart tendon, which usually favors strength, shouldn't have any issues."
"Wait, wait, you..."
"Legilimency!"
...
A flash of white light passed, and Knockturn Alley returned to its quiet state.
Several minutes later.
Kyle walked out of Knockturn Alley, now in the form of the Death Eater he had just encountered, and stopped directly in front of Gringotts' entrance.
Soon after, Lucius Malfoy emerged from inside, his face looking even paler than before, his fingers trembling slightly.
"What, you're holding back on the Galleons? Remember, this is your loyalty to the Dark Lord!"
"I don't need you to remind me, Travarnott." Lucius spoke coldly, "It's just a Galleon, the Malfoy family will forever be loyal to the Dark Lord."
"If you're truly loyal, you should hand over the entire family vault, instead of squeezing it out bit by bit like this."
Lucius' face turned an unnatural shade of red, as if he was angry.
Now, his only value seemed to be providing Galleons. Was he not dying fast enough to hand over the family vault?
But even this Lucius dared not get angry. He was afraid that Travarnott would report his words to Voldemort with embellishments.
The Malfoy family could no longer afford to make mistakes.
"The Dark Lord knows my loyalty. You need not meddle here, Travarnott."
With that, Lucius quickly left Gringotts.
Travarnott... no, it should be Kyle now, followed closely behind him.
Before this, he had always thought that Moody had cheated Malfoy out of some Galleons, but after seeing the Death Eater's memories, he realized he was wrong.
They weren't returning to Cornwall, but were on a new mission, though the Death Eater himself didn't know the specifics. His task was merely to watch over Malfoy.
"It's about time."
Back in the Cauldron Pub's backyard, Lucius looked at Travarnott and said, "Travarnott, bring out the item. If we miss the timing, we'll both be punished."
Kyle nodded and took out a... coaster from his robe pocket.
To be precise, it was a Portkey.
Lucius placed his finger on it without a word.
The two stood like this for an unknown duration, and suddenly, a powerful suction emanated from the coaster.
The Portkey was activated.
After a dizzying flight, Kyle finally landed on solid ground again, and a gust of wind brought a familiar scent of the sea.
But he could be certain that this place wasn't Cornwall.
"Right on time." A pale, frail wizard approached, speaking without courtesy, "Travarnott, you have no business here, scram."
Kyle, who had just adapted to his new identity, hesitated slightly before reacting. The other party was indeed talking to him.
This rude attitude, filled with disdainful eyes... this guy was even worse than the Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professor.
"Yes, sir, Lestrange." Kyle obediently moved to the back of the group.
No mistake, there were many Death Eaters here, roughly estimated to be over fifty, and leading them was the frail wizard in front.
Rodolphus Lestrange, a senior Death Eater, one of Voldemort's confidants, and also Bellatrix's husband, though Bellatrix was madly in love with Voldemort and didn't care much for her nominal husband... they were cellmates in Azkaban, so they were like prison buddies.
But he didn't seem to mind this, and Kyle felt that if possible, he wouldn't even mind replacing Bellatrix.
Taking advantage of Rodolphus Lestrange and Malfoy's conversation, Kyle discreetly observed their current location.
The original text is available in Chapter 69@0/bar!
In Travarnott's memory, he only knew that after Malfoy withdrew the money, he would use a Portkey to take him away, but he wasn't clear on their specific destination.
However, they were currently at a seaside location, and judging from the environment, this place should be a pier? Or an island? With limited information, Kyle dared not be certain.
The only certainty was that this place was definitely not in England.
Kyle had extensive experience using Portkeys, and it wasn't difficult to estimate the distance based on the flight. The Portkey's duration suggested they had left England but not traveled too far.
If Kyle's guess was correct, their current location should be on an island off the English coast.
Kyle wanted to find someone to ask for more information, but the people around him seemed to dislike him. Every time he had the urge to approach them, he received disdainful glares.
didn't want to risk it, as he had no idea what would happen if he angered them.
This guy was living a tough life, Kyle thought.
Kyle even felt that Rodolphus Lestrange had him watch Malfoy because he had such poor relationships.
If Malfoy got upset and had a little tantrum, killing him and offering an apology would be enough. There was no need to feel sorry for him.
Even the most worn-out and ugly wallet was more useful than cannon fodder... Unfortunately, the real Travarnott never seemed to realize this.
Noticing Rodolphus Lestrange's gaze upon him, Kyle immediately stood still and quiet.
But Lestrange's attention didn't linger, seemingly just a routine check.
"Odd, why are we stopping here?" Kyle wondered.
He and Lucius Malfoy had been here for over ten minutes, yet the Death Eaters showed no signs of movement, just standing there motionless.
Had Voldemort set up a Death Eater training camp? Or were they waiting for others...
As these thoughts crossed his mind, Kyle felt a sudden chill down his spine, his heartbeat quickening.
In the distance, several black smoke clouds rapidly approached, landing nearby with force.
Voldemort emerged from the smoke, followed by Alecto, Crabbe, Goyle, and other renowned Death Eaters.
Seeing this impressive lineup, Kyle was stunned.
He had intended to cause trouble for the Death Eaters, but not including Voldemort in the equation.
Troubling Voldemort was as good as courting death.
Kyle regretted his decision to come. Had he known Voldemort would be present, he would have never shown up.
Travernott knew too little, and now Kyle could only shrink back into the crowd, planning to slip away at the first opportunity.
Even if the Death Eaters discovered him, they would only target Travernott, leaving Kyle untouched.
Yes, he would slip away at the first chance.
Kyle retreated further, relieved that Voldemort's gaze rarely fell upon the expendable minions.
Additionally, for safety, he had chosen Polyjuice Potion over Transfiguration, so as long as he didn't act foolishly, Voldemort likely wouldn't notice the oddity in his ranks.
Mimicking others, Kyle directed an enthusiastic gaze at Voldemort, expressing his loyalty.
"Wait a bit longer..." he thought to himself.
At the very least, he needed to understand Voldemort's purpose for coming here, as it must be significant for him to appear in person.
After all, when recruiting over a hundred Wanderer Wizards, only Bartemius Crouch Jr. had been present.
Now, not only had Voldemort arrived, but also many notable Death Eaters, clearly plotting some grand scheme.
Having stumbled upon this, Kyle was determined to uncover the truth.
He was grateful for his earlier decision to use Polyjuice Potion; if it had been a Transformation Spell, Voldemort would have likely exposed him by now.
Although Lainis didn't acknowledge the title of Dark Lord, it wasn't something Voldemort had bestowed upon himself. His power was earned, and only Dumbledore could rival him.
"Where is it?" Voldemort asked coldly from the front.
"It's here," Lucius Malfoy, resembling a quivering quail, produced a Cornwall-style box, likely a gift from Gringotts.
"Very good," Voldemort nodded in satisfaction, then turned to Rodolphus Lestrange beside him.
"Master, I've already informed Miles MacFusty in advance. They should be ready to welcome the great Dark Lord."
"Ready to welcome?" Voldemort's red eyes fixed on Lestrange. "You mean I have to wait here for him?"
With a thud, Rodolphus Lestrange knelt on the ground.
"Master, I'll bring him here immediately!"
"Roar!"
As he spoke, a furious roar echoed from a distance, followed by dozens of feet-long flames weaving together like a spider web in the air.
The Death Eater's formation momentarily faltered but quickly regained order, even if some were afraid, they dared not show it.
Fear equated to incompetence, and Voldemort despised incompetence. As a Death Eater, being disliked by Voldemort could lead to a grim fate.
"No need, I'll go myself," Voldemort said, glancing at the slowly dissipating flames. "Miles is a smart man, and smart men usually make the right choices."
At Voldemort's command, the Death Eater's formation finally moved, marching towards their destination.
Yes, an island.
From the moment Lestrange mentioned the name, Kyle knew where they were headed, and the recent commotion further confirmed his suspicions.
The Hesidiri Archipelago, home to the Black Dragon.
There were only two places where dragons could be seen nowadays.
The Romanian Dragon Reservation, where almost all dragon species could be found, except for the Black Dragon of the Hesidiri Archipelago.
Due to their unique nature, dragons couldn't live together. For centuries, the MacFusty family, residing in the Hesidiri Archipelago, had been responsible for managing, or rather, protecting them.
While caring for the Black Dragons, they also prevented them from venturing beyond the archipelago.
And Voldemort's objective was likely these war machines.
