Chapter 873: Flight Festival
Chapter 873: Flight Festival (Combined)
So they’re not the Examiners... What a waste of that impressive aura... Qiao Sang inwardly grumbled but politely asked, "Then may I ask where the Examiners are?"
"Yinyin."
Maze Tail’s tail tip, which was pointed forward, nudged its glasses and called out once.
"Ya Ya."
Fangy translated.
The Examiners are in a meeting, and it’s unclear when they’ll be back.
In a meeting... Qiao Sang decided to wait patiently and asked, "Is it okay if I sit here for a while?"
"Yinyin."
Maze Tail gestured for her to make herself comfortable.
Qiao Sang understood and immediately sat down on the nearby sofa.
Maze Tail continued working.
"Xunxun~"
Treasure Seeker appeared, floating beside Maze Tail and watching it operate the computer. It occasionally showed expressions of admiration, like "You’re so amazing", "You’re so great", and "You can do that too?"
"Yinyin~"
Maze Tail blushed a bit from the compliments, then seemed to think of something. It got up and, using its tail, skillfully brewed a few cups of tea, placing them on the coffee table.
Qiao Sang thanked it.
"Yinyin."
Maze Tail used its tail to pick up one of the cups and specially handed it to Treasure Seeker.
"Xunxun~"
Treasure Seeker hesitated for a moment, then extended its claws to take the cup.
Honestly, it didn’t really like the taste of tea.
Maze Tail smiled at it.
"Xunxun..."
Treasure Seeker hesitated, bringing the cup to its mouth and taking a sip.
Maze Tail continued to smile.
Feeling the gaze, Treasure Seeker’s body stiffened and took another sip.
It lowered its head, only to find Maze Tail still smiling at it.
"Xunxun!"
Treasure Seeker gritted its teeth, drank the tea in one go, and showed the empty cup to Maze Tail.
"Yinyin..."
Maze Tail sighed and shook its head.
That’s not how you drink tea; it’s wasteful.
After sighing, it returned to its desk and continued working.
Treasure Seeker: "..."
For the rest of the time, Treasure Seeker didn’t go back to Maze Tail. Instead, it obediently practiced the Light Wall technique beside its Beastmaster.
Qiao Sang took out her mobile phone, logged into the Imperial Beastmaster Academy’s official website, and started browsing the items that could be exchanged with credits.
There were many items available, and it wasn’t something she could finish browsing casually.
Moreover, she had almost never heard of any of them, so she had to click on each one to check the details.
Time passed slowly.
After an unknown amount of time, light footsteps could be heard from the hallway outside. The footsteps grew closer, and the door was pushed open.
Qiao Sang looked up and saw a middle-aged man wearing a white shirt and dress pants, with silver-framed glasses, exuding a refined and professional aura.
He looked very similar... Qiao Sang couldn’t help but turn her head and glance at Maze Tail’s position.
She then stood up with a smile and greeted him, "Hello, I’m a Beastmaster who has signed up for the Regional Tournament. I’m here to receive my Evaluation Task."
"Yinyin."
Maze Tail stood up, moved aside, and called out once.
The middle-aged man’s first glance fell on the few cups of tea on the coffee table, and his eyes flickered with surprise.
After all, his Maze Tail didn’t easily brew tea for just anyone.
He looked at Qiao Sang, then his gaze fell on Fangy and Steel Treasure, his eyes brightening as he adjusted his glasses and said, "I know you. I happened to see your Familiar Evolution through the window just now."
The main building of the Beastmaster Center was right behind the Open Training Ground, so it was normal for him to have seen it.
He then looked at Steel Treasure and said, "You coming here is perfect. I was just curious about what kind of familiar this is. It can’t be identified on the Beast Identifier."
Steel Treasure remained still, allowing him to examine it.
"It's called Steel Sword Falcon, and it's a familiar from Supernest." Qiao Sang explained.
"Supernest?" The middle-aged man blurted out in surprise. "How did you bond with a familiar from Supernest?"
Steel Treasure glared over.
The middle-aged man realized his words were ambiguous and coughed, adding, "What I mean is, how did you manage to bond with a familiar from Supernest?"
The addition of just one word made a world of difference.
Qiao Sang replied, "I went to Supernest as an Interstellar Exchange Student a while ago and bonded with it there."
An Interstellar Exchange Student, that's not something just anyone can do... Wait, he's still a student? The middle-aged man's expression turned odd, and he couldn't help but glance at Steel Treasure again, asking, "What level is Steel Sword Falcon?"
"General-Class", Qiao Sang said.
Ah, it's just General-Class. He was almost scared to death, thinking a student had raised a Royal Beast... The middle-aged man heaved a sigh of relief, sat down at his desk, and smiled. "When I saw Steel Sword Falcon's evolved form, I thought it was a Royal Beast based on its size and aura."
"It's just a bit larger than an ordinary General-Class Beast Companion", Qiao Sang said, handing over her ID card and Beastmaster Emblem.
"It's not just the size; the aura is also different from an ordinary General-Class Beast Companion, or I wouldn't have guessed wrong", the middle-aged man said as he placed the ID card and Beastmaster Emblem on the scanner.
The information appeared on the screen instantly.
He first looked at Steel Sword Falcon's data but found only Steel Slash Giant Falcon. "Haven't you updated your familiar's information after its evolution?"
Qiao Sang nodded. "Steel Sword Falcon is a familiar from Supernest, and updating the information takes a lot of time. I thought I'd come here first to accept the mission."
The middle-aged man smiled. "I was just in a meeting, you—"
His voice trailed off.
Sixteen years old?
Ice Emperor Ram, a Royal Beast?
The middle-aged man leaned forward, suspecting his eyes were playing tricks on him.
When he saw the information was still the same, he paused, took off his glasses, and grabbed Maze Tail's tail to wipe the lenses. He put them back on and looked again for the third time.
The information hadn't changed.
Maze Tail quietly moved away.
The middle-aged man sat in his chair, staring at the information, dumbfounded. He finally confirmed, "You're only sixteen?"
Some people do alter their age on their ID cards, but usually by just a year or two. But even if this person had reduced their age by two years, such a level of strength was still incredibly exaggerated, almost surreal.
Qiao Sang said, "I'll be seventeen soon."
The middle-aged man was speechless.
The office fell silent.
After about ten seconds, the middle-aged man slowly exhaled and began searching for a mission.
Soon, he decided, "Tomorrow, the Flight Festival will begin. They hope to send a Beastmaster with at least a General-Class flying familiar to provide on-site protection. You'll be responsible for maintaining order, preventing Beastmasters not participating in the Flight Festival from entering the airspace by mistake. If nothing goes wrong, the mission will be considered complete."
Qiao Sang was taken aback. "That simple?"
The middle-aged man said, "If you don't like this mission, I can—"
"I like it!" Qiao Sang quickly interrupted. "This mission is pretty good."
For the Evaluation Task, she naturally hoped it would be as simple and quick to complete as possible.
The middle-aged man didn’t say anything more. He confirmed the mission on the screen, handed back the ID Card and Beastmaster Emblem, and added, "The Flight Festival lasts three days, and you’ll be responsible for all three."
Qiao Sang took the ID Card and Beastmaster Emblem and asked, "Just me, or...?"
"There are others", the middle-aged man chuckled. "This is the Flight Festival. How could one person handle maintaining order?"
I see. The Flight Festival starts tomorrow, so it’s unlikely they would have found a suitable Beastmaster at the last minute. One less or one more wouldn’t make much of a difference. This Examiner is a good person, assigning such an easy mission... Qiao Sang said solemnly, "I will complete the mission successfully."
With that, she turned and left with Fangy in her arms.
The middle-aged man watched Qiao Sang’s retreating back and sighed sincerely, "This new generation truly has a prodigy that comes around only once in a thousand years..."
He then turned to Maze Tail and said, "Make me a cup of tea."
"Yinyin."
Maze Tail, busy tidying up the teaware on the table, called out to indicate she was occupied and would make it herself.
The middle-aged man: "..."
...
Beastmaster Hall.
Qiao Sang held Fangy and stood in line at window 32, her thoughts drifting.
This mission can be completed in three days. Including today, she would be here for four days.
Could it be that her brain domain will break through the Great Divide in just four days...? Qiao Sang felt her brain domain and the Beastmaster Codex, but there was still no change.
Maybe I’ll come back to Yongtian City in the future?
The Prediction wasn’t for the near future but for later.
After all, as a Beastmaster, she would likely visit the local Beastmaster Center whenever she passed through a place.
She had to participate in the Hollow Plains Regional Tournament and would be staying here for a while. It wasn’t impossible that she would return to Yongtian City...
Various thoughts flashed through her mind.
As she was lost in thought, a staff member’s voice called out, "Next."
Qiao Sang stepped forward, took out her ID Card, and handed it over, "I need to modify my familiar’s information."
The staff member took the ID Card, "What information would you like to modify?"
"My Steel Slash Giant Falcon has Evolved. I need to change it to Steel Sword Falcon", Qiao Sang said.
The staff member looked down and operated the system. Then, they looked up in surprise, their tone unusually respectful, "Please wait a moment."
They then turned and hurriedly called out, "Supervisor!"
The sky grew dark, and it was evening by the time Qiao Sang returned to her room with a tired Steel Treasure.
While Blue Star had many advantages over Supernest, when it came to the efficiency of the Beastmaster Center, Supernest was still the stronger option.
Just modifying some information took the entire afternoon. They called in wave after wave of people, and even as the workday ended, they were still on the phone, discussing various matters. It was much more exaggerated than when Fangy Evolved into Flame Kiru in Supernest...
"Steel Blade..."
Steel Treasure looked exhausted, and as soon as they returned to the room, it plopped down on the sofa to rest.
It felt that being examined and discussed by humans was more tiring than training.
"Xunxun~"
Treasure Seeker, seeing the situation, quickly took off the Ring, grabbed a bottle of milk, and handed it to Steel Treasure.
It had only one little brother, and it couldn’t let him get too tired.
"Steel Blade."
Steel Treasure froze for a moment, then stood up from the sofa, extending his wings to take the item and chirping to express his thanks.
"Xunxun~"
Treasure Seeker patted Steel Treasure's head, wearing an expression that said, "What are you being so formal for?"
"You're my Little Brother. Who else would I take care of if not you?"
Steel Treasure: "……"
"Knock knock."
Suddenly, a knock came from the door, followed by Teacher Mikara's voice: "It's me."
Qiao Sang didn't bother to get up, just looked over at Treasure Seeker.
Before she could say anything, Treasure Seeker understood what she meant and his eyes glowed blue.
The door opened.
Mikara pushed the door and walked in.
Her first glance was at Fangy, who was lying still and seemingly calm. She said with a complex expression, "You've been training all this time and you're not tired?"
Qiao Sang was taken aback. She followed Teacher Mikara's gaze and instantly understood. She asked:
"Fangy, are you still training in the Arena?"
"Yah."
Long hours of training had left Fangy not particularly energetic, but he nodded weakly.
He hadn't asked for an Energy Recovery Potion the entire time... Qiao Sang felt both heartache and guilt.
Steel Treasure, in preparation for a better evolution, had already dispersed all his clones before taking the Energy Accelerator, and her focus had been entirely on him.
Later, they had taken on a mission, and she had been thinking about her Brain Domain breakthrough.
Then, they had been busy with Steel Treasure's information modification, and she hadn't noticed that Fangy had been training with his clones the entire time.
For the entire afternoon and part of the morning, the intensity of training with multiple clones usually required an Energy Recovery Potion every few dozen minutes.
But this time, Fangy hadn't taken any, nor had he mentioned it.
She hadn't noticed at all...
Qiao Sang sighed inwardly and said, "Take a break. Have a few bottles of Energy Recovery Potion before you continue training."
She knew that with Fangy's current drive to become stronger, telling him to stop training altogether was out of the question.
"Yah."
Fangy nodded.
"Xunxun~"
Treasure Seeker, who had overheard the conversation, promptly took off his ring and handed a few bottles of Energy Recovery Serum to Fangy.
"Yah."
Fangy took the bottles, cradled them with his claws, and drank them in large gulps.
Come to think of it, Flame Kiru had been training non-stop for so long. Was he going to train some more even though there were no important matches coming up soon? It seemed Qiao Sang's training methods were quite strict... but that wasn't quite right. None of her other familiars had been trained this intensely... Mikara gathered her thoughts and asked:
"What is your mission?"
"To maintain order at the Flight Festival for three days", Qiao Sang replied.
Mikara nodded slightly.
This mission wasn't challenging and only required three days. During that time, she could observe various Flying Beasts, which would be a learning experience for someone Qiao Sang's age. It seemed the Examiners had a good impression of her and had given her this mission... Mikara said:
"Alright, get some rest. I won't accompany you on the mission, but contact me when you're done. If you have any non-mission-related issues, feel free to come to me."
"Understood." Qiao Sang nodded.
Mikara turned and left the room.
...
The next morning, at dawn.
Qiao Sang freshened up quickly, picked up Fangy, and prepared to leave for the Flight Festival.
"Yah!"
Fangy chirped, signaling to wait.
Qiao Sang stopped in her tracks.
The next second, over a hundred small Flame Kirus appeared almost simultaneously, one after another, rushing out the door.
Qiao Sang: "……"
Fangy curled up, looking so nervous that even she was scared. (End of Chapter)
