Chapter 872: The Wizarding World is Just Another Prison
Chapter 872: The Wizarding World is Just Another Prison
Ivan slowly approached the entrance of Nurmengard, his gaze lingering on the Elder Wand in Grindelwald's hand before he spoke.
"So, you're planning to escape, Grindelwald? Or are you just looking for a more comfortable cell?"
"Escape?" Grindelwald's lips curved into a smile. "You could say that, but it's not just me who's trapped in a cage. The entire Wizarding World is nothing more than another prison."
"This world is sick and twisted, and I... intend to correct it!" Grindelwald said with a nonchalant air.
"Correct?" Ivan narrowed his eyes.
"Lions have no need to fear sheep. Muggles have ruled this world for far too long. They bring nothing but more wars and injustice, allowing the unworthy to hold power and wealth. Only wizards can reshape this decaying world!" Grindelwald replied in a low, raspy voice.
"Only to create new wars and injustices?" Ivan interrupted, his tone mocking. "Apart from the ability to use magic, wizards are no different from Muggles. The mistakes Muggles make, wizards will likely make as well."
Wizards are far from the superior beings Grindelwald claims them to be, and they are certainly not a naturally noble race. The Ministry of Magic under Fudge's leadership has made that abundantly clear.
"It seems the failure fifty years ago didn't teach you that ruling Muggles is a pipe dream", Ivan said with a cold laugh.
Grindelwald paid no heed to Ivan's barbs and spoke bluntly. "That's why I need to make more preparations and gain more support!"
"Of course, that includes you, Hals!" Grindelwald looked at Ivan earnestly.
Ivan was taken aback, genuinely surprised that Grindelwald would try to recruit him before the battle.
"You and I are both powerful wizards. Fighting each other only weakens our side, especially when we share similar goals, don't we? The conflict between wizards and Muggles is inevitable and will eventually erupt. It's better to have you and me lead this change rather than let the Muggles do it."
Grindelwald's voice rose as he continued, then he extended his hand toward Ivan.
"Come, Hals, for the future of the Wizarding World and for wizards to live openly in every corner of this world, we must unite and contribute our strength. Let's put aside our differences for now. Remember, Muggles are our true enemies."
Grindelwald's words echoed through Nurmengard. After a long silence, Ivan finally spoke with a playful tone.
"Since that's the case, why don't we do it the other way around? You work for me, and we can test various policies in Britain first before expanding to the entire Wizarding World, of course... using my methods!"
Grindelwald had made his offer, and Ivan couldn't deny him the chance...
"So, you're going to refuse my proposal?" Grindelwald's face darkened. "Then it seems there's nothing more to discuss between us."
"I thought you would have understood from the start that we are not on the same path", Ivan said nonchalantly.
The conversation on the top floor of the Tower had already made it clear to Ivan just how dangerous Grindelwald's thoughts were, so he never entertained the idea of peaceful coexistence.
The unhidden animosity between the two made the once relatively calm atmosphere unbearably tense. Without any warning, Ivan made the first move. One after another, head-sized balls of ghostly white fire ignited around him, then surged towards Grindelwald in unison.
With a casual flick of his wand, Grindelwald summoned a wall of deep blue flames that blocked the attack. The two strange fires collided, producing a series of violent explosions.
The blast of hot air blew Grindelwald's robes, while the house-elf Winky had already taken cover behind a sturdy wall, peeking out nervously to watch the two combatants.
Ivan's figure flickered and he transformed into flames, vanishing from his spot. When he reappeared, he was behind Grindelwald. With a tap of his wand, a green beam shot out.
Grindelwald had not anticipated that Ivan could Apparate within Nurmengard, but his sharp senses detected the subtle magical fluctuation of the space jump. He narrowly dodged the potentially lethal strike.
Nearly being taken down by a young boy ignited Grindelwald's temper. A fierce look flashed in his eyes, and he vigorously shook his wand. Cobalt blue flames instantly formed a whip, lashing out viciously at Ivan.
Ivan conjured a circular shield with a backhand motion, but it was easily shattered. He had no choice but to Apparate away again.
The Elder Wand's amplification of magic gave Grindelwald a significant advantage in both offense and defense. The spells he cast were more than twice as powerful.
However, Ivan was not worried. The strength of a spell was never the deciding factor in a battle.
After dodging a Killing Curse by transforming into flames, a faint, ethereal mist began to drift from Ivan's wand, coalescing into the shape of a unicorn.
Cecilia, who hadn't appeared in a long time, happily circled Ivan twice before stepping on the light mist, letting out proud neighs as she charged towards Grindelwald.
Grindelwald launched several spells in quick succession, but they passed right through the Unicorn Shadow's body.
Realizing the magic was difficult to dispel, Grindelwald raised his left hand, which was charred black and nearly numb. He used his wand as a sword, swiftly slicing through his palm.
Black blood dripped down, but before it hit the ground, the droplets transformed into tiny, precise projectiles, scattering in all directions under the guidance of magic.
Even in its ethereal state, the Unicorn Shadow couldn't avoid the black blood droplets. It was riddled with blood holes, its body corroded.
Ivan pointed his wand and pulled a stone tablet towards him, blocking the remaining blood droplets. He then looked at the nearly crippled Unicorn Shadow, his brow furrowing.
While he hadn't expected Cecilia to defeat Grindelwald, he hadn't anticipated that the Unicorn Shadow would be so easily injured.
Surprisingly, Grindelwald didn't continue his attack. Instead, he lowered his wand and spoke. "I hope the next time we meet, you have a different answer for me..."
"Leaving now won't be as easy as you think..." Ivan arched an eyebrow, gesturing with his hand. The ghostly white Fiendfyre expanded, forming a circle that trapped both of them in the center.
