Chapter 87: The Three Major Clans, Zhao Xiwei
Chapter 87: The Three Major Clans, Zhao Xiwei
Three Beastmasters, each of them at the Overlord rank, formed a formidable force that should have been capable of crushing all opposition and leaving no one in their path.
However, reality presented a different picture. This powerful force was being suppressed.
Indeed, a team of three Overlord-ranked Beastmasters found themselves at a disadvantage in battle.
Their opponents were a row of robots, ten in total, each at the Overlord rank.
This numerical advantage tipped the scales in their favor.
Although the three Beastmasters had twelve companion beasts, only five of them were at the Overlord rank, while the remaining seven were at the Overlord Ninth Rank.
Moreover, the ten Overlord-ranked robots acted as one, with impeccable coordination. When one attacked, another would often retreat to reinforce the defense, maintaining fire superiority and making it difficult for the three Beastmasters and their twelve companion beasts to keep their heads up.
"If this continues, they'll eventually break through our blockade," Chu Jianghe said anxiously.
Chu Jianghe was from the Chu family in Jizhou City and was one of the pillars of the current Chu family. He had reached the Overlord rank and possessed two Overlord-ranked companion beasts.
Fighting alongside him were Zhu Guanyu from the Zhu family in Yunlan City and Niu Aihua from the Niu family in Ningyang City.
Both Zhu Guanyu and Niu Aihua were also core members of their respective families, which was why they had been assigned to this critical mission.
The three families were located in Jizhou City, Yunlan City, and Ningyang City, all not far from Lingwater City.
They were the owners of this unstable rift in Lingwater City. According to the rules of the rift's opening, it would activate in about half a month.
Given the critical timing, they couldn't afford to underestimate the Machinery Drought Sect's attack. That's why each family had sent an Overlord-ranked Beastmaster to guard against the impending threat.
However, what they hadn't anticipated was the Machinery Drought Sect's massive deployment of ten Overlord-ranked robots.
This force far exceeded their expectations, making their resistance challenging and exhausting.
"Keep calling for family support; we can't hold out for long," Niu Aihua ordered, as he struck with a Flame Fist, detonating an incoming missile. Amidst the explosion, his voice carried the same sense of urgency.
"What's the situation at the reservoir now?" Zhu Guanyu asked with a furrowed brow. He was under the most pressure, as he only had one Overlord-ranked companion beast.
"At the reservoir, there are still three young people holding the line," Chu Jianghe replied while fending off attacks. "If they're breached, the consequences are unimaginable!"
His brows had formed a "calm" sign, and he was confident in holding off these ten robots. However, if they had to engage and prevent even one from escaping, the pressure would be immense.
After all, they were currently at a disadvantage.
It was unlikely for the weaker side to restrain the stronger without paying a price.
As if their fears had materialized, nine of the robots seemed to receive a command and began to form an array, covering for one robot to break through.
Seeing this, their faces paled. If that robot broke through, the three young people, barely at the Overlord Ninth Rank, wouldn't be able to stop an Overlord-ranked robot.
So, after a glance at each other, they coordinated their attack, even adopting a strategy of mutual injury to stop the robot from breaking through.
Bang, bang, bang...
Boom, boom, boom...
For a moment, the sounds of battle—explosions, heavy objects hitting the ground, and more—intertwined, creating an even more chaotic scene.
"Phew!"
Chu Jianghe let out a long breath.
After paying the price of two Overlord-ranked companion beasts being seriously injured, they finally stopped the tenth robot from breaking through.
However, before he could relax, another unexpected event occurred.
A loud engine roar suddenly drew near, and Chu Jianghe turned to look. He was nearly stunned by what he saw.
Five cars of different brands and models approached and abruptly stopped. Then, right before their astonished eyes, the cars quickly disassembled and reassembled.
In the blink of an eye, five more robots appeared, making the situation clear.
To be honest, seeing this, the three Beastmasters felt a chill down their spines.
Even with their twelve companion beasts, they were already struggling against ten Overlord-ranked robots. Now, with five more of the same rank joining the battle, how could they possibly hold them back?
The five Overlord-ranked robots didn't join the fight but instead headed straight for the reservoir behind the three Beastmasters and their twelve companion beasts.
At this point, facing five newly arrived Overlord-ranked robots marching towards their destination, the three Beastmasters and their twelve companion beasts could only watch helplessly, unable to stop them.
Strictly speaking, they should be grateful that these new robots didn't join the ongoing battle.
Otherwise, their ability to retreat would be questionable.
Powerless and helpless, they could only watch as the five robots broke through towards the reservoir.
Despair enveloped them...
In the end, they fell just short of success.
As they contemplated whether to retreat, thick lightning bolts struck, halting the five robots in their tracks.
Immediately, a Flame Wolf, a Wolf Vulture, and an Apple Deer appeared, revealing the identity and rank of their owner.
Four companion beasts indicated that their owner was also at the Overlord rank. The Flame Wolf and Wolf Vulture were almost standard companion beasts for the Security Bureau, so the owner's identity was clear.
If Liu Yi and the others were here, they would recognize the tall, cold-tempered woman who had fought alongside them in Cloudmist Mountain as the special envoy from the Jiangnan Province Security Bureau—Zhao Xiwei!
The three Beastmasters sensed her presence and were surprised to find that, aside from the Thunderlight Leopard that had just acted, her other three companion beasts were also at the Overlord rank.
It was evident that her strength surpassed theirs.
Even so, they couldn't help but worry.
Three against five, the advantage still lay with the opponent.
That's what they thought, but once the battle commenced, their perception changed entirely, and their eyes nearly popped out.
Their so-called "Overlord" rank seemed to be a different concept from the opponent's "Overlord" rank.
The gap was so significant that they felt a bit ashamed.
