Chapter 87: Individual Achievements
Chapter 87: Individual Achievements
"Byoot Raートン." Mu Yue called out the first student's name for the examination.
Byoot Raートン stepped into the examination area and began with a Earth Release ninjutsu. He then swiftly drew out a kunai and displayed a series of fierce taijutsu moves. With lightning-fast reflexes, he threw three shuriken at a target fifty meters away, not hitting the bullseye but still making a perfect score.
Without pausing, Byoot dashed towards a large tree, moving with agility as if he were on flat ground. His chakra control was impressive—even when stepping on the water, he withstood the waves caused by the Water Dragon Bullet technique and maintained his balance without falling into the water.
Mu Yue contemplated for a moment before giving her scores: Ninjutsu—7 points; Seals—7.5 points; Taijutsu—8.7 points; Shuriken throwing—6 points; Chakra Control—7.8 points.
Byoot had a solid foundation, especially in taijutsu, but he fell short in other areas.
For Group A students, Mu Yue used a higher scoring standard than the one used during the grouping test.
"Uchiha Obito," Mu Yue continued, calling out the next student's name.
"It's a pity that Rin is in Group B. It would have been great if she were in Group A," Obito thought to himself as he stepped forward and greeted Mu Yue. He wished that Rin Nohara could have witnessed his outstanding performance.
After challenging Mu Yue's taijutsu test, Obito found these examination tasks incredibly easy. He wished he could have shown off his skills in front of her.
"Fireball Jutsu!" Obito confidently performed his most proficient Fire Release ninjutsu, unleashing a towering four-meter-high fireball that looked absolutely terrifying.
Ever since Mu Yue helped him improve his Fireball Jutsu, Obito had been using this more impressive variation, despite it consuming more chakra.
"Damn, are all the current Ninja Academy students this good?" Byoot Raートン was astonished, witnessing Obito's remarkable fire release technique.
It seemed even more powerful than the one Uchiha Fugaku had displayed previously. Were all the Uchiha clan students monsters?
"It feels more powerful than Asuma's fire release," Kurenai Yuhi nodded in agreement.
"My fire release technique isn't that weak; it just can't hit people," Asuma Sarutobi retorted, feeling a little offended by Kurenai's comment.
"The Fireball Jutsu has a slow flight speed and can't change direction. It's usually used as a feint," Asuma explained.
Asuma could understand the mechanics behind the Fireball Jutsu, but he was left speechless by Obito's subsequent performance. Whether it was taijutsu or other areas, Obito demonstrated exceptional prowess without any apparent weaknesses.
"Might Guy."
When Might Guy was called up, he followed the order and started with ninjutsu, but he had only mastered the Three-Point Riveting Technique.
Finally, they spotted a student using the Three-Point Riveting Technique, although not very skillfully. Byoot Raートン and Asuma Sarutobi smiled, but that smile froze when Might Guy showcased his taijutsu.
"His legwork is so fast; it feels even quicker than yours, Raートン," Asuma said with a headache. He had thought they had finally found a normal academy student, but it turned out to be someone with an extreme bias in taijutsu.
Byoot Raートン remained silent, feeling that he might not be a match for Might Guy in pure taijutsu combat.
Asuma noticed that some students around him seemed calm and unfazed, as if they had seen this before. He approached them to inquire.
Only then did Asuma learn that Might Guy was the top student in the fourth grade and that he had beaten Obito to earn that title.
Instantly, Asuma realized that Might Guy's true fighting prowess might be even more formidable than what he had just displayed.
Ever since Itachi defeated Aburame Shino on the first day of the summer training camp, the students knew that he was someone not to be trifled with.
Asuma had no desire to watch Itachi's performance; he already knew that Itachi would be the best. After all, Itachi was capable of thrashing him.
As expected, Itachi's performance in each test was flawless, and his overall demonstration easily surpassed everyone who came before him.
"Sarutobi Asuma."
Asuma heard his name called just when he least wanted to.
He knew that if he went up now, others would inevitably compare him to Itachi, and he would fall short.
However, Asuma didn't run away. After a few seconds of hesitation, he steeled himself and stepped forward.
If he couldn't measure up, then so be it. At least no one else knew about his previous boastful claims that had led to his humiliating defeat.
As the end of the class approached, Mu Yue finished grading all the students and proceeded to rank them. She wondered, "Will there be rewards? If there are, I should definitely hold small tests every day and major tests every three days to milk the system for all it's worth."
When the class ended, Mu Yue had everything prepared and ready to announce.
She posted the rankings and scores on the board she had prepared in advance and then dismissed the class.
Instead of rushing out, the students gathered around the board to check their results.
"Only a total score of twenty-four..." Anko Mitarashi frowned, dissatisfied with her result.
Back in the Ninja Academy, her scores were usually above thirty-five.
As she expected, her name was not on the promotion list.
In fact, out of the three hundred or so students, only one person had been promoted from Group B to Group A—Ebizo.
Hearing Anko's comment, her teammates, Izumo Kamizuki and Kotetsu Hagane, remained silent. They hadn't even broken the twenty-point mark yet.
Soon, their attention turned to the promotion list.
"Big Brother Ebizo is truly a genius," Kotetsu said, his admiration for Ebizo growing as he saw that he was the only one on the list.
"Indeed, it's enviable to stand alone at the top," Izumo nodded in agreement.
"But once we perfect our Genjutsu this week, we'll be like Ebizo next week," Kotetsu said confidently.
He was highly confident in his improved Genjutsu, and even if his scores weren't high, he was certain he could sweep through the practical exam.
Izumo shared Kotetsu's sentiment, and both of them wore expectant smiles.
"These two are becoming more and more incomprehensible," Anko said, puzzled by their cheerful expressions.
Asuma squeezed through the crowd to check the rankings for Group A. He was relieved to see that he ranked third in the overall scores, only falling behind to Itachi and Hatake Kakashi.
"I need to train even harder this week," Asuma thought, feeling a strong sense of urgency.
Although Might Guy's test scores weren't high, he could be extremely strong in actual combat, especially after witnessing his victory over Kakashi in the recent final exam. Likewise, Aburame Shino, who had lost to Itachi, was also a formidable opponent in real battles.
Asuma wanted to secure his third place in the practical exam and perhaps even challenge for second place. As for first place, he had no such ambitions for now.
