Chapter 87: Doing a Great Deed
Chapter 87: Doing a Great Deed
When it came to making a big splash, Liam suddenly remembered that he still had one-seventh of Voldemort's soul in his possession.
Ever since Uncle Kiu invited the Ancestor to possess the notebook in Mr. Zombies' world, it had become much more docile. The faint sense of temptation it once exuded had completely disappeared.
It made sense, considering this thing was just a product of Voldemort when he was a teenager. Moreover, it was a very immature Horcrux that hoped to release the Basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets to purge the school. This indicated that its primary purpose wasn't to preserve Voldemort's soul, and its defenses were not as strong as those of the later Horcruxes.
Not to mention, even though Voldemort was a prodigy, his age limited his abilities and resources. Furthermore, this Horcrux was created using an ordinary notebook as its base, which inherently made it weaker compared to the other Horcruxes.
Regardless, Liam was determined to find a way to deal with the notebook. After all, he had already gained what he considered the most useful skill from it—Parseltongue—and the rest of the content didn't interest him much.
The notebook contained, besides a memory of Voldemort framing someone, a portion of his Dark Magic knowledge, and even the method for creating a Horcrux.
However, to access this information, he would need to deeply interact with the Horcrux, which could easily lead to his own downfall. Moreover, as someone who had the Multiverse General Store, Liam had ample opportunities to gain various powers and better methods of immortality. The knowledge left in the notebook by Voldemort didn't hold much appeal to him.
Especially the method of using a Horcrux to avoid death. The Maoshan Daoist Scriptures he had obtained repeatedly emphasized the importance of a complete soul. Even when certain situations required the refinement of magical artifacts, only a very small fragment of the soul could be sacrificed without damaging the foundation, and efforts must be made to restore the soul afterward. The idea of slicing one's soul like a loaf of bread, as Voldemort did, was clearly out of the question.
Since the Horcrux was no longer useful to Liam, he needed to find a way to dispose of it. Throwing it away for someone else to find was out of the question. The original story was lucky that no one died, but Liam didn't want to take that chance.
Moreover, Liam had learned about the importance of Merit in the world of Mr. Zombies. The smooth progress he experienced while cultivating the Maoshan Supreme Clarity Heart Method was largely due to the aid of Merit. Therefore, doing something that would harm others and diminish his Merit was something Liam would never do.
Since he couldn't just discard it, his options were limited. After some thought, Liam came up with a plan that would both do a great deed and solve his problem.
The next day was Sunday, and early in the morning, Liam waited in the corridor on the Eighth Floor, watching as Dumbledore hurried out of the Headmaster's office and ran toward the bathroom.
Honestly, Liam never understood why the Headmaster's office didn't have a bathroom. For a man over a hundred years old, having to leave the office every time he needed to use the bathroom was truly unfortunate. Even the Gryffindor dormitories had their own private bathrooms.
After a while, he saw Dumbledore, still in his pajamas, heading back to the Headmaster's office. Liam quickly stepped forward to intercept him.
Dumbledore was a bit surprised to find someone visiting him just after six in the morning, but he still spoke in a gentle tone. "It’s the weekend today, and I imagine most of the students are still sleeping in. But you seem quite anxious, so there must be something important you want to discuss. Follow me."
With that, Professor Dumbledore led Liam to the entrance of the Headmaster’s office, guarded by two stone statues, and then ascended the slowly moving staircase to enter the office.
The Headmaster’s office was even more exquisite than what was shown in the movies. Liam saw a massive desk and a stack of silver instruments on it. On a nearby shelf, Dumbledore’s phoenix, Fawkes, was dozing. It merely opened one eye to glance at the newcomers before settling back into sleep.
"Ah, this is Fawkes. He hasn’t been feeling well lately. I think he might be about to Rebirth", Dumbledore said, sitting behind the large desk. He then waved his hand, and a comfortable armchair flew to the opposite side of the desk.
Once Liam was seated, Dumbledore continued, "It’s only the first week of the term, but you know, there are always unexpected events at the school—especially during my tenure. I’ve seen many such incidents, and I’m confident I can handle whatever problem you’re facing. So, don’t worry, take your time. Whatever has made you give up your holiday and come to me this early must be significant, but I believe I can help."
Indeed, Dumbledore was the most powerful White Wizard. Though his words were spoken gently, the confidence in his voice conveyed a sense of formidable strength.
This wasn’t the kind of arrogance that Lockhart displayed. Liam felt that if Dumbledore and Voldemort were the same age, Voldemort would likely have been defeated by Dumbledore.
"We encounter many things in life, and we’re always busy. But these things shouldn’t stop us from enjoying life", Dumbledore said, raising his wand. "Tea, juice, Pumpkin juice, lemonade."
With each drink he mentioned, a corresponding beverage appeared on the table. As the Headmaster, it was only natural that he had such privileges in his office.
"Headmaster, just tea, please", Liam formally requested a drink. Honestly, every time he saw Dumbledore’s blue eyes peering through his glasses, Liam felt as though he was being thoroughly scrutinized.
Of course, this had nothing to do with the Dementor’s Kiss or Veritaserum mentioned in some fan fiction he had read in his past life. It was simply the wisdom and experience accumulated over more than a century of living through various trials and tribulations.
"So, what difficulty have you encountered, or what problem do you need the help of this old Headmaster with?" Dumbledore asked.
Liam took a sip of his tea to calm himself down. He then took a metal box from his backpack, put on his Dragonhide Gloves, and opened the box, retrieving the diary.
Dumbledore’s brow furrowed slightly at Liam’s cautious actions, which suggested that Liam had indeed discovered something significant.
Finally, the diary was placed in front of Dumbledore. From the outside, it looked like an ordinary notebook, almost out of place in the opulent Headmaster’s office.
Moreover, its simple appearance indicated its commonality; there were likely dozens, if not hundreds, of similar notebooks in Hogwarts.
However, Headmaster Dumbledore suddenly became alert, even drawing his famous old wand from his robes.
