Chapter 87: A Bit of Confusion, Almost a Mix-up
Chapter 87: A Bit of Confusion, Almost a Mix-up
Winter days, cold winds, withered leaves, and snow.
Unknowingly, You Longsheng had already been in this new world for a year.
"How nostalgic!" You Longsheng sighed.
"What are you feeling nostalgic about?" Ding Baiyun asked.
"I miss the first time we met." You Longsheng lifted his horsewhip and pointed at the ferry crossing up ahead. "Isn't that ancient cypress ferry where we first met?"
It was already winter, and You Longsheng, along with Ding Chenfeng and Ding Baiyun, had left Luoyang and were on their way home for the winter. Unbeknownst to them, they had reached the same spot from last year where they had prepared to cross the river.
Ding Chenfeng couldn't help but laugh. "You still like to tease Yin Wuji."
You Longsheng argued, "He's the one who started causing me trouble."
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
Just as they were talking, they spotted a figure in the distance, clad in a blood-red cloak, rushing through the snowy landscape. With a swift movement, the figure entered the courtyard of the ferry inn.
"Was that just now… Yin Wuji?" Ding Chenfeng asked, a bit uncertain.
"On both sides of the Yellow River, who else would dare to wear such a gaudy bright red cloak besides Yin Wuji?" You Longsheng asked.
Ding Baiyun replied calmly, "There's also Red Sleeve Sword Du Lingfeng, Scarlet Lotus Maiden Hu Yingying, and the Red Flower Twin Demons, the Feng brothers. If the Jade-Blooded Twin Serpents hadn't perished, they would also be wearing bright red cloaks."
Ding Chenfeng, "..."
You Longsheng, "..."
Although the snowfall wasn't heavy, the road was muddy and difficult to traverse. The three urged their horses into a gentle gallop and ran for a while before finally arriving at the ancient cypress ferry crossing once more. They stepped into the familiar inn.
Coincidentally, they happened to catch sight of Yin Wuji descending from the second floor, and he overheard You Longsheng saying, "Innkeeper, bring us some of your specialty dishes and a jug of aged wine with a plate of peanuts."
Yin Wuji's expression changed, and he turned to go back upstairs, but then he heard someone in the inn's main hall call out to him, "Brother Yin, over here! The food is already served!"
Yin Wuji's face darkened, but he slowly made his way downstairs and approached You Longsheng first, bowing politely. "Greetings, Lord You."
"It's nothing. I didn't expect us to be so fated, meeting again like this." You Longsheng smiled. "Are we not fighting today?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Yin Wuji's expression changed once more.
You Longsheng raised an eyebrow. "Surely not? Do you still want to fight?"
"It's not me." Yin Wuji rarely explained himself. "I'm here to lend a hand."
Just then, the person who had called out to Yin Wuji earlier approached them and sized up You Longsheng and his companions before turning to Yin Wuji and asking, "Brother Yin, who are these three?"
Yin Wuji introduced them first. "This is Qingzhu Jian, Deng Kai."
You Longsheng nodded, indicating that he had never heard of the name before.
Then Yin Wuji introduced You Longsheng. "This is the lord of Cangjian Manor, You Longsheng."
"You Longsheng!" Deng Kai exclaimed in surprise. He never expected the renowned You Longsheng to be so young, and then he recalled that You Longsheng and Yin Wuji seemed to be on bad terms. "Brother Yin..."
Just then, the innkeeper had cleared a vacant table and served a few cold dishes, along with the wine and peanuts. You Longsheng and the Ding siblings sat down.
Yin Wuji and Deng Kai also took their seats.
"Are you and You Longsheng on good terms now?" Deng Kai asked in a low voice, unable to contain his curiosity.
Yin Wuji shook his head. "No issues. His sword skills are formidable, and he spared my life. Now that we've met again, he certainly won't bother with someone like me."
Deng Kai nodded and then asked worriedly, "Then today..."
"Rest assured, he won't go out of his way to pick a fight with us." Yin Wuji said.
Deng Kai nodded and placed his hand on the sword hilt on the table, his eyes fixed expectantly on the inn's entrance.
"Who are they waiting for?
Ding Chenfeng continued, "...they won't be too formidable of a martial artist."
Yin Wuji, the Blood Sword, had decent martial arts skills, but he was far inferior to them, so they could sit back and enjoy the show today without worry.
...
Midway through their meal, the inn's front door was pushed open forcefully.
"Innkeeper, bring wine and food!"
A middle-aged man strode in, his attire extravagant and his beard neatly groomed. A waist-hanging nine-ringed knife with jingling iron rings adorned his belt, giving him a majestic and imposing aura.
Accompanying him was a stunningly beautiful woman.
The woman wore a white fox fur coat over a light pink skirt, her lips a vivid red, and her enchanting eyes sparkling with allure. The curve of her lips seemed ever ready to steal one's soul.
Deng Kai's gaze burned with fiery rage.
The middle-aged man and the enchanting woman naturally sensed this intense gaze and turned to look at Deng Kai.
"It's you?" The man chuckled mirthlessly, "You dare to show your face here?"
As he spoke, he led the woman to sit down at an empty table on the west side of the inn.
Deng Kai's face twitched, and he gripped the hilt of his sword.
The middle-aged man's expression darkened, and he stood up, striding over to Deng Kai's table. He placed his hand on the handle of his nine-ringed knife, "Are you asking for death?"
Yin Wuji abruptly stood up, "Deng Kai is here to settle scores with Tao Hua Niangzi. It's best if you stay out of this."
The middle-aged man was taken aback, his eyes narrowing as he looked at the sword in Yin Wuji's hand, "Blood Sword Yin Wuji?"
"Indeed." Yin Wuji nodded.
"Then do you recognize this knife in my hand?" The middle-aged man asked.
"I do." Yin Wuji nodded again, "The Myriad Victory Linked Rings Knife. You are the Living Tyrant, Chu Xiangyu."
Chu Xiangyu's eyes narrowed further, "Then why are you telling me to stay away?"
"Unless you wish to die." Yin Wuji replied in a low voice.
"Crack!"
The sound of chewing peanuts reached their ears, causing Yin Wuji's cheeks to twitch involuntarily.
On the other hand, You Longsheng watched the unfolding scene with great interest.
The Living Tyrant, Chu Xiangyu, was a character from Sentimental Swordsman, Ruthless Sword, and he served as a tool for Blue Scorpion to showcase his martial arts. Tao Hua Niangzi, on the other hand, was from Wanderer of the Border, and she was one of the survivors who had surrounded Bai Tianyu.
It was intriguing to see these two characters, who were originally from different stories, together like this. It felt like a mix-up of storylines!
How fascinating!
However, Ding Baiyun didn't find any of this interesting at all. She only felt annoyed by the woman's presence because as You Longsheng was appraising her, the woman was boldly returning his gaze and even throwing flirtatious glances his way!
"Is she pretty?" Ding Baiyun asked nonchalantly.
"Very," You Longsheng replied honestly.
"Prettier than Lin Xian'er?" Ding Baiyun's voice carried a hint of challenge.
"Not even close, and she's not as beautiful as you either."
You Longsheng continued his honest assessment, "But she's still very attractive, and she knows how to use her charms to her advantage. There probably aren't many men in the martial arts world who can resist her allure."
Ding Baiyun's face alternated between pale and flushed, unsure whether to feel happy or angry.
Tao Hua Niangzi, who had been sending flirtatious glances towards You Longsheng, froze for a moment upon hearing his words, then laughed and shot him another coquettish glance, her eyes reflecting a hint of competitiveness.
However, Chu Xiangyu, who was facing off against Yin Wuji, didn't notice this exchange. Hearing Yin Wuji's words, he let out a cold laugh and drew his nine-ringed Myriad Victory Knife, slashing towards Yin Wuji, "I think it's you who wants to die!"
