Chapter 869: The Conglomerate's Spy
Chapter 869: The Conglomerate's Spy
"Useless bunch, every single one of them."
Professor Cobra shook his head and turned off the screen.
Sato was the most useful pawn he had found within the Academy. Deep within this person's heart, a vast darkness had been hidden for many years, constantly suppressed by his own efforts. After such a long accumulation, with proper guidance, it could easily be transformed into a usable pawn.
More importantly, this person was a former professional duelist with decent skills and relatively rich experience. If even this guy couldn't force out the opponent's true strength, then there were probably very few people in the world who could be of use.
"Forget it, I'll have to take matters into my own hands."
Cobra hummed. He turned off the device in front of him and looked down at his right hand.
At this moment, the screen had gone dark, and the lights in the facility were all turned off. In the boundless darkness, the only source of light was his right hand, glowing with a red aura, flickering in the pitch-black.
From the glowing outline, it didn't seem like a human arm.
Cobra stared intently, and in his eyes, a boy seemed to appear, enveloped in light, smiling brightly at him.
"Just a little bit more, just a little bit."
"Soon, we'll be together."
The boy's youthful voice spoke.
"Yes, just a little bit more."
Cobra muttered to himself.
Those painful memories and the despair of that time surged into his heart once again.
His child, who had once been so sunny and lively. He had loved dueling so much, dreaming of becoming a duelist when he grew up.
But he never got the chance to grow up.
Cobra's memories of his child were forever frozen in that bloody and blurred moment, along with the scattered cards flying everywhere.
He closed his eyes and clenched his fists.
"Just a little bit more, and we can be together forever."
But after taking only a few steps, his expression suddenly changed.
"Who's there?"
Someone had intruded.
Cobra was secretly surprised in his heart. Although it was a temporary research institute he had set up as a base, he had still implemented multiple layers of security measures. Even a mosquito should not have been able to enter unnoticed.
The person he immediately thought of was, of course, the Duel King, the greatest threat to him on this island.
But when he turned around, he realized it wasn't the Duel King.
"As a professor of a Duel Academy, your keen senses are quite impressive."
A man's voice, tinged with a hint of mockery, echoed through the darkness. A red-haired, bespectacled young man slowly stepped out of the shadows and appeared before Cobra.
"Amon Gallem?"
Cobra, seeing that it wasn't the Duel King, relaxed his tensed nerves and laughed heartily.
"Interesting."
"Oh?" Amon raised an eyebrow.
"I've long heard that the Gallem Conglomerate has a shadow, an all-pervasive super spy capable of completing any task. But who would have thought?"
Cobra's expression held a hint of playful scrutiny as he sized up Amon.
"I never expected it to be the young master of the Gallem Conglomerate himself."
Amon smiled and adjusted his glasses.
"There's no one in the world more capable than me for this task, and I'm quite troubled by that."
"You're quite confident."
Cobra narrowed his eyes.
"So, you're not just representing a branch of a Duel Academy here. I guess the Gallem Conglomerate is also involved?"
"You could say that." Amon spoke calmly, "Now that the matter is out in the open, it's easier to deal with. I won't beat around the bush."
He extended a hand towards Cobra.
Cobra frowned.
"That Elf Card," Amon stated directly, "we want it."
"Oh?"
Cobra crossed his arms behind his back and smirked.
"So, you're aware of her existence."
"Don't underestimate the intelligence network of a top-tier conglomerate." Amon smiled, "The alien, a fallen star from outer space. The spirit discovered in the fallen debris was evaluated to possess the highest-level power, an incredibly powerful spirit."
He paused, his gaze turning colder.
"It's said that it can even bring the dead back to life, right?"
Cobra retracted his smile, staring back at him with cold detachment.
After a moment, Cobra spoke, "This has nothing to do with you, Amon Gallem."
"I knew it wouldn't be that easy."
Amon said, "Originally, I thought that since it's about taking back the card, it should be settled in the way of duelists. But then I realized that you're someone who doesn't hesitate to use any means to achieve your goals, and with the power of such a dangerous spirit, a duel would only put me at a disadvantage."
"So?" Cobra asked.
Amon had already begun to undress.
He removed his outer garment, revealing a well-built, muscular physique hidden beneath his refined exterior, and assumed a fighting stance.
"Don't underestimate me," Amon smiled, "I'm quite confident in my strength."
Cobra snorted, also taking off his outerwear and adopting a fighting posture, signaling his readiness with a gesture.
Two card-playing musclemen began to exchange blows in the pitch-black underground.
Amon shouted and stepped forward, swinging a punch. Cobra focused his gaze, reaching out to grab, but the punch was a feint, and his grasp found nothing but air. Amon's right leg shot up, and his kick struck Cobra's waist and abdomen.
Amon won the first exchange, a satisfied look on his face. But before he could even laugh, he felt an immense force emanating from where his kick had landed. It was as if a domineering horizontal gravity had slammed into his chest and abdomen, an invisible hammer blow that seemed to displace his internal organs, causing him to stumble backward and crash into the wall behind him.
Amon spat out a mouthful of blood, trying to get up but finding his hands and feet pinned to the wall, his entire body unable to move.
"What...?"
Amon looked up in bewilderment.
The intelligence clearly stated that the spirit in Cobra's possession was in a dormant state and could hardly exert its power without a duel.
"Could it be that even in its dormant state, it has the power to interfere with reality to this extent?" Amon clenched his teeth.
Just how powerful was that spirit?
"Foolish."
Cobra chuckled coldly.
"Knowing that I possess the power of 'That Great One,' you still dared to challenge me, how foolish."
With his hands behind his back, he walked up to Amon, examining his well-built upper body and then his eyes.
Suddenly, he burst out laughing.
"Haha, the young master of the Gallem Conglomerate, you're a rare talent as a spy, fighter, or duelist. But it seems there's a massive shadow lurking in your heart."
"Get away from me," Amon said in a low voice, but he was powerless to resist.
"Don't resist, it's fine." Cobra said, "That Great One can see everything and soothe any pain. Tell her your pain, speak your desires. Then everything will..."
Before he could finish, Amon suddenly lashed out with a punch, striking Cobra's face. Cobra took the solid punch, nearly spitting out a mouthful of blood, and staggered back two steps.
He lifted his head, looking at Amon in astonishment, "Impossible, you're already bound by That Great One, how...?"
Then he heard a voice from behind, "It's just the power of a half-disabled spirit, breaking free isn't difficult."
Cobra turned around. This time, he truly saw the person he considered the biggest obstacle on this island.
Torikage Yuxuan.
